Bob Stoops - $6MM coach

That's a lot of money to pay a guy who historically chokes in big bowl games and manages to lose a few each season to teams he shouldn't...

Stoops is one of the best coaches in the nation. Yup, he's lost some BCS games, but they're making it there. Keep in mind that he's lost numerous assistants over the past few years. Don't tell me losing Grimes, Cabral, Hagan, etc wouldn't have a negative impact on the team.

That being said, $6M is a lot of damn money!

Those Car Dealerships have to find somewhere to place their money now!

My concern is that this payout really raises the bar for coaching salaries. I won't deny that Bob Stoops has done wonders for Oklahoma's football team and entire school. I guess this was a payout of an incentive to stay for 10 years. Just the same, what kind of effect does this have on the rest of college football? When college guys are making as much (or more) than NFL guys, I think that's a step in the wrong direction.

meh. the bonus is a small slice of what the guy has genertared for the university. i can only wish that 10 years from now, cu has changed its climate so positively, and hawk is still at the helm.

in the day and age when people run their coaches off with pitchforks and burning hay, this news is welcome.

that's cool. nu certainly likes to remain competitive with the HC salary. at least stoops is getting them there. cally, anyone?

Just can't help yourself can you? FYI, Pelini is on the lower end of the pay scale in the conference. He's actually making less than Briles at Baylor.

Speaking of which, the NCAA cowed into the mighty Sooners. They gave them back their wins. I ****ing hate the NCAA. Now the punishments for paying players is about the same as giving non scholarship players discounted meals. **** them.

Punishment changed

Two words; Eric Bieniemy

1. thank you for sharing. i did not say that nu is currently very competitive. back to back contract buyouts (which amount to a considerable chunk of money) combined with the fact that nu has lost its allure certainly appear to impact what they can put on the table.

2. as for how competitive nu WAS, specifically with cally (whom was the name under discussion during your little miff) cannot be refuted. his base was cushy, wasn't it? a husker loving source linky maintained that cally's base salary was more than stoops, mack brown, and jim tressel.

i suppose your opening question could well be aimed right back atcha. you just can't help yourself, can you?

Well, I guess we're arguing semantics then because the way I read this, you are refering to NU overall, present included. As far as losing its alure and that relating to money, I'm not sure how you're coming about to that point. We still make many, many times the amount of money from our football team compared to others in the big XII and in the nation. We may have fallen off, but if you haven't noticed lately, people still show up and spend plenty of money at our games, unlike others...
As far as my comment goes, you just can't help but attack every NU poster on here regardless of whether that post refers to NU at all. It seems pretty childish and stupid when you're constantly reaching for an argument instead of just joining in with a discussion like the rest of the posters on this board.

sker, when you are done whining like a child, you may realize that you were choosing to do the very thing you are crying about right now. the difference between your outlook and mine is that i do not take football banter personally. you betcha that i enjoyed watching you eat those very brusque words about overpaid coaches. i also enjoyed the subsequent protestations in which you spun a flowery benefit to the current state of nu athletics. we might want to look into turning that spinning into a pottery wheel. it is practically as effective.

i chose enlarge upon the discussion at hand by bringing the microscope to nu. a side benefit is that in the process, you looked like quite the homer. i do enjoy doing that, yes. being as this is my home board, it has the side benefit of generating a good deal of amusement for the masses. if you feel that this exchange was a personal attack of grand proportions, perhaps you might initiate a search for a product that could thicken your skin, as clearly it is necessary.

Jesus. It's pretty obvious that you see/read only what you want to. If you want to turn my first post into something about NU I would love to see how you're going to do that, especially since none of what was written there could apply to any of NU's coaches over the past 40+ years. So please, explain where you're going with this. Bill Callahan? Lost to a few teams that he shouldn't, particularly in the past year, but the only big bowl game he ever lost was to Auburn and you could hardly call that a choke since we lost by three and weren't favored. Solich? If you jump from year to year that may apply but he hardly ever lost games we were favored in and won the majority of the big bowls. Osborne? Please.
I'm not eating anything, regardless of how much you would enjoy that.

The rest of your post is pure idiocy. If you want to take what I've written and interpret it as crying then I guess that's your choice. As far as expanding the scope of a discussion, I just think it's funny how you're the only one that ALWAYS expands it to NU. The post could be on anything, ANYTHING, and it's only a matter of time before LB comes along and disagrees with whatever the NU fans post. NU Fan: "There's some good skiing this time of year." LB: "No there isn't. Only and inbred husker idiot would say something like that. You're all beneath me because I am the might LB!" Seriously. Stop. Unless you have a legitimate argument or point to make, just stop. You just look foolish.

wow. i applaud you for engaging in a mental eruption on the magnitude of vesuvius. :woot: that is seriously funny.

Eruption? So not gonna address any of the things that I posted? That's what I thought.

nah. i don't see the need to write a novel over a concept that is simple enough. if you want to carry on and whine about it, it is going to have to be relegated to pm.

your biggest issue is a personal one, rather than one that lends any value to this thread.
