that you really felt this good about the talent on offense going into a season? We've had good players over the years but it's been a long time since there has been this kind of talent at every position on offense.

QB - Whether Hawkins or Ballenger play this position is in good hands.
WR - Deep group loaded with speed and potential.
TE - Solid players with more talent coming in this class.
OL - Huge players with the potential to build a line that can be dominate for the next several years.
RB - 'nuff said

I will admit to some fears on the defensive side of the line (except at LB) but the potential on this offense is unbelievable. Now it is time to really see how good this coaching staff is. :thumbsup:
 
I am worried about our LT position. Miller got toasted pretty badly by decent pass rushers last year at the RT.... Pass protection in general was iffy. Lets hope at least one of the guys that Redshirted last year steps up in a big way!
 
I'm worried about the entire OL, not because of lack of talent, but lack of experience. This group will be good, the question is how long will it take for them to gel?
 
Hmm... maybe I overstated my feelings. I admit that most of the talent is still young and raw but, on paper, when is the last time we had this sort of talent? Sure the OL needs to gel and everyone else needs to improve but I can live with that.

I remember when GB took over for RN and Washington came to Boulder. When the Buff O was on the field it was crystal clear that UW simply had more talented players. Looking at the current roster I don't see that happening again. Will the whole offense come together in 2008? Probably not. Do the Buffs now have the talent on O to play with anyone in the country? My feeling right now is yes. Now I want to see the players and coaches prove me right.

well said, and to answer your initail question...YES, I'm a lot more excited than i was at this point last year.

Another thing about last year, we were all very excited about B Jax, he never even played a down. If we would of known that at this point last year, would we even of been as excited as we were?:confused:
 
I agree. It's nice to know that we have the talent to play with anybody. We may not win every game, but we're not going to be completely out-classed, talent wise, on the field. I remember when UT and USC came to town and the talent disparity was so obvious.

On offense, I think we're going to be sick. I see the potential to average 35 points a game. There's big play ability all across the board.

On defense, it all starts up front. If the front four can stop the run and provide a good pass rush, the secondary will be fine. If not, we could be in for a few shoot-outs this year.

I think Rogers and Gurode both graduated in 2001. 2002 had some good players at the skill positions, but the line wasn't as good as it was in 2001.

Bates and Lucier were still there. The line was still pretty solid in 2002, Chris Brown was on pace to break 2,000 yards rushing for the season before he got hurt with two games left, he would have been a Heisman candidate in NYC had that not happened. Then Brian Calhoun and Bobby Purify ran all over the fuskers in Lincoln, so it had to be a good line.
 
This reminds me of the 92 season, and 09 will remind me (I hope) of the 93 season. Maybe 09 will be like the 94 season, but that was a magical season and I dont see that happening yet, although I am optimistic.

In 93 I knew we had some talent, Kordelle was a junior Salaam was a sophomore and there was a lot of other top talent around. We could keep up with Miami, and it indicated that we could compete for the MNC in 94.

I'm more worried about the depth at tackle. Remember, Miller had one summer to work on skills, strength, AND the playbook. I think he'll improve his pass blockly by quite a bit. I think all of them will.

Behind Miller and Tau (most likely), who do we have at tackle? It's the only position on offense that worries me.
 
i guess i think our Buffs have a lot of upside on offense, but they will be pretty young on the line, at tight end, and at rb.

i am hoping that we don't see a step back, given the difficulty of the schedule. this will really need to be a year where this staff shows its coaching chops.

i do think cody will be lots better over the season next year, assuming he holds off ballenger.

scott has everyone, including me, very excited. you know that guy will play from day 1, even if he doesn't have the blocking and everything else down pat. guys with that kind of size, speed, and power don't come along every day. you play them when you have them.

the wrs look pretty good on paper. we will see how they do. obviously, we want the speed guys to step up-- smith and celestine. lots of folks are predicting big things for simas-- i sure hope so.

the o-line has some upside, for sure. they had some guys who really got after guys -- i love to see that nasty streak. but, we will see how they gel together.

fingers crossed. it should be fun!

I love the optimistic attitudes from everyone, it is very uplifting and I am right there with you!! I just hope and pray that we can stay healthy throughout the season, it could be very rough losing a key player with the type of schedule we will be facing. Go Buffs!! (I wish I could fastforward these few months before season!!)
 
I think we really need our receivers to get a ton of YACs. This will open up things for the young o-line and rbs. Spread the opposing dbacks out and force the lbs to think about dropping into coverage more than stepping up plugging holes. Smith and Simas need to play like Crabtree and Macklin.
 
Just looking forward to seeing them all develop - the talent is there so now it is time to show us what they are capable of. The good news is that I have a LOT of players to pay attention to.

I am always excited for Buff season but I do have to say that my excitement level has been much higher over the past two years than it had been in quite some time. I am also enjoying the positive pub that the program has been getting - and expect that we will see more and more fans filling the seats on Saturdays.
