The awesomness that is Hawkins

This might be a little OT but I think it is totally relevant to what Hawk is doing with the school and AD.

In my ENVS class last Wednesday my prof. started of his lecture talking about something that happened to him that morning. My prof had written an academic article that was published in the inter-university newspaper, Inside CU. The piece was published on Tuesday and on Wednesday morning my prof had received a hand written note from Dan Hawkins complimenting him on his paper and giving my prof his thoughts on the piece. Blown away, my prof told us that he would forever be a fan of Dan, the AD and the football team.

This man might be the best thing that happened to CU in decades.

Who was the professor, what is the class, and what was the paper on?

That's a really great story... stuff like that makes me think the man's gonna be in town for a good long while

Dan is a very good man and I believe he will be here for a long time. I also feel he will make an impact on more than just the football team. He cares about everybody and will give his time, even when he might not have any.

It's been a while. What is ENVS?

so he's a hippy?:smile2:

You can pretty much assume the professor is a hippie, so Hawk was probably thinking that if he got a hippie liberal professor to support the football team, he could do anything!! So now Hawk knows he has supernatural powers and we have front row seats to the greatest show of all time.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's some sort of an architecture major.

That is Environmental Design.

Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary major. I took a lot of Geography and Poli Sci classes to get my degree. The major covers a whole range of issues.

woah woah woah, let not jump on the ENVD's now, you'd have to meet me by the flag pole at 3:00 o'clock if you did whilst being prepared to lose your lunch money for tomorrow.

Pretty cool especially considering the amount of antagonism between the faculty and athletics during the Barnett era. Which was even pretty evident(anecdotally speaking) in the more moderate Econ department.

Anyways, back to the original topic. Even at the recruiting lunch, one of the first things Hawk mentioned was the GPA of the current student/athletes being the highest it has ever been. I think he would like to win football games as a priority, but if he can get those kids who win those games to graduate and leave with a degree, he has totally accomplished his goals.

Used to be ENVD back in the stone age.

it was lumped in with ENVD? Seems a little odd since ENVD is planning and architorture. i guess they can be closely related, but when i think of my degree i think architecture, not environmentalist. maybe that is a poor perception of envs, i really don't know anything about that one.
