Congratulations cornfuskers on getting 80,000+ for your spring game

Amazing how those "give aways" draw fans. You know, like at the Rockies game when they give away baseball caps. What did the fuskers give away? You got it. It was "free toilet paper day." The first 20,000 fans got a free roll of Charmin'.

I think it's kind of pathetic that the only thing they have to cheer about is the fact that 80,000 people show up to see a spring game. Whoo hooo! look at us, our football team sucks, but we turn out in droves to see them practice.

I still say we are just envious - say what you want that program has amazing support

I have no doubt that if Colorado didnt have Air Force, CSU, the Broncos, Avs, Nuggets we would have that same support for CU. Its easy to support Nebraska when that is the only athletic even in the entire state!

Exactly. Which means those fans are forced, not voluntary. They just don't have any other options.

instead of speaking up for all of us, please feel free to drop the "we" and speak of yourself in the singular.

i lived in nebraska for over 7 years. NOTHING during that experience left me with a particular feeling of shucker envy.

notre dame has phenomenal support. by your logic, i should also be a closet irish fan, buckeye fan, and SEC fan.

alas, i am a proud as hell BUFF fan. i do not feel as if it requires great numbers to muster enthusiasm for the black and gold, or get excited about their future. i am enthusiastic AS IS.

i see no reason to be an apologist.

Well it's not exactly that, it's just that knebraska football is a cultural thing, whereas CU football is a sport. This is why when CU starts losing the fans lose interest, whereas when kNU starts losing the fans start producing death threats.

Considering the consequences of the alternative, I'll take our 18,000 attendance, thank you very much.

Here, here. I couldn't agree more.
McDonalds may serve more hamburgers than other restaurants, but that don't make them a quality steakhouse. I take my premium B12 football Buffalo style.

This board had a thread re the anticipated Spring game numbers - would we meet Coach M's goals?? It looks like we did not. It is what it is. Nothing more nothing less. The showing at the Neb game has nothing to do with your loyalty to any school regardless of where you have lived. I am not questioning the "fanhood" Buff supporters regardless of their numbers.

All I am saying is that if CU had 80,000 (or even 50,000) show for the Spring game - members of this board would be ecstatic with that degree of support as would Hawk.

you are right - it is what it is. we just enjoyed a record crowd. i choose to celebrate accomplishments instead of detracting from them.

if redlove is for you, great. there are any number of outlets ready with polyester fan gear. they may even throw in a runza as a welcome aboard gift.

do not confuse apathy for lincoln with envy. you are far off base, sir.

The winters up north are long and cold. The wind blows with unrelenting fury. The cold, windy nights are spent in long underwear, dreaming of a better life. "God! Curse you for the months between our last and first games!"

Then, the winds recede. The temperature rises. The Sun finally begins to win its relentless battle with the Cold. The fuskers take the field. The Spring Game ensues! The cabin prisoned fuskers finally eskew their red flannels and put on their jeans and head for Mecca. The Spring Game is upon them!!!!!

not a single mis-spelt word...where did you steal that one from...

of course they do.

1. the corn is not yet growing, so they can't listen to it grow.
2. freemont lakes are colder than a witches tit.
3. the big slides would still leave them hypothermic.

options?

Hmmm, 80,000 people for a scrimmage? IMO that borders on being pathetic.

Sure, we'd all be thrilled. But that's not the point I was making. The point I was making that the fuskers don't have anything else to be proud of. I heard a guy on Irv & Joe a couple days ago spout off about how wonderful they are for having 80,000 in the stands for the spring game. I'm like "is that all you have to brag about anymore?". I guess it is.

I think it is evident that the support we (as NU fans) show through thick or thin times is what gives NU the chance to compete on a national scale. Is it obsessive? yep, I think so..... but there I was in the stands, making a day of it, seeing friends, tossing a few cold ones back before the game, most perfect day of the year thus far mid 70's and only light breezes and what better way to enjoy it than with college FB?.

IMO, this state is a mecca for anything NCAA related.... it is the sports level of choice of our residents..... for better or worse. Pro caliber baseball and hockey have failed or continue to struggle for fan support.

NU baseball drew 8700 right after the FB practice game and 6000 today.

NU/Creighton will draw close to 20k Thursday night at Rosenblatt if the weather is as nice as Saturday's..... and over 20 k for the game in May....and they (NU v CU) collectively own several top 10 all-time crowds for regular season games in Baseball over the years.

Creighton baseball is drawing well, they are playing 9 games at Rosenblatt this year and it is working.... all we need is good weather and they will draw close to what NU is.

Creighton basketball is in the top 15 for attendance, drawing over 15k per game.

Support for the CWS is legendary, the fan goal being to beat the previous seasons record, a new stadium is in final vote by the Omaha city council for a 30k new ballpark to the tune of 130 million $$..... the lure?.... a 25 year contract with the NCAA to keep it here (where it belongs) in Omaha.

If baseball was actually played during the summer I am sure both NU and CU would be top 10 for draw.... when they start playing in March it hurts attendance.

Last month, NCAA opening round of March madness sold out a year in advance and drew the largest crowds for any first round location and I believe set a record for largest 1 vs 16 seed game (KU playing helped).

NCAA womens final 4 Volleyball in Omaha still holds the record by a long mile for the event 2 years ago (NU winning the Champ helped).

Anyways, I know some wont want to hear all this but I felt it was worth posting, not trying to toot the horn, just stating an opinion and a few facts..... it is what it is..... we are collectively goofy for our college sports and I don't blame anybody for feeling it is weird, pathetic or cool.

It is a positive sign for the B12N as I think NU, CU, MU, KU all had all-time record crowds from the sounds of it..... good things and better days are on the way.

well it is almost time to start "cutting" the bulls into steers from the late winter calving.....

last night college football live on ESPN, ripped the cornholes pretty good. They were talking about how a RB has been moved to LB and he is the best player on the Defense now. A RB for Illinois (i think) was wearing a black shirt over his jersey, they said it looks like someone found Knebraskas black shirts. They talked about how we put up 65 and KU put up 70 on them:thumbsup:

Yeah, they kind of conveniently forgot to say that NU also put 51 up in that loss. KU whipping NU like they did is a little more interesting of a conversation.

Joe Ganz did get a "Star Of The Spring", so we have that going for us....which is nice!!

Oh yeah, and call it whatever you want, make fun of it however you feel....but the bottom line is that the die-hard Buff fans deep down inside wish that they had the following (and tradition for that matter) that NU has. Plenty of you seem content on proving that fact on a daily.

even after editing, this ramble is all you can come up with?

save your psychoanalysis for a time when you can at least form a coherent sentence. until then, i have a modest suggestion for what you can do with your presumptions. they belong where the sun don't shine on ya. fact: YOU seek out a buff board. we did not seek you.

i might give listening to you a whirl, just after you repent for mocking the death of a young QB, cheering when opponents are injured on the field, and breaking off your own arms, patting yourselves on the back.

Come on ?lady?, surely you can come up with something better than the weak "editing" slam. Maybe I have given you too much credit over the years!!

While that may be true, you forget one thing.....at the end of the day, I dont worship Nebraska, so its been a good day

The last two touchdowns you scored were against our 3rd string defense. Garbage points. Don't feel too proud about that. Anyway, no one is saying your offense is a joke, it's your defense that has become and will remain a joke.
