This is the biggest worry for me. Our Dline and LB's look pretty good. But our DB's are pretty much untested. BoulderBuff has been talking about the depth at S considering Ryan Walters injuries. Anthony Perkins looks like a star in the making. He shouldn't play much because of Ryan Walters but I like what i saw from him this spring. he made big strides imo.

There has also been constant talk about Jimmy Smith 'character issues'. None of the rumors about JSmith have been true, but you have to ask why he seems to be involved in all of this constant BS. That kid could be a great one. I hope he steps up.

we have to hope for big improvement between now and game 1 or you can pretty much expect to get lit up.

t-wheat had the ability to shutdown half the field when healthy and that allowed the d to compensate for some pretty big gaps elsewhere. walters is the only proven commodity in that whole list and we really need him to stay healthy. we could be ok at safety this year, but corner scares me. our best corners are really undersized and that will get punished in this conference of huge fast wideouts.

at cb, jimmy smith seems to have the physical tools, maybe, but he needs to step it up. i like gardner and chapelle, but neither is a good matchup physically against all the size in this league. jalil and hawkins look a tad slow to me. wright looks like a safety to me. lamont also is undersized. i think corner is probably our biggest area of concern.

but, there is a whole summer of drills and conditioning and then fall camp. someone will step up.

GO BUFFS!

This secondary will have to grow and I see problems early and then becomng a decent group by mid season.(crossing my fingers typing that)

Safety position will be okay although dykes worries me in pass coverage but the concern is cb.Mckay is small as is chapelle but he is a good tackler and decent cover guy. Problem is they will both have problems with bigger wr's.

Jimmy smith and jalil brown have been raved about by coaches for a year and a half. Why do these players taht are being raved about not live up to the hype?

I think jimmy smith will be starting soon and jalil needs to step up.Having 2 big quick cb's would be a nice change an advantage for a secondary that has taken it's lumps since the okruch days.

Also, if brown is a bit slow why not move him to safety? Same for wright or whoever. We have no depth at all at safety and the way walters throws his body around, I see a potential disaster waiting there.

I don't know why they dont have Nate Vaiomounga with the safeties.

Damn almost forgot about him. He was at safety but they moved him to lb, he would be one of the first guys I would move back there.

They moved kai, they can move him.

Really? What's the story on that? I'll tread lightly here but lately, the polynesian players are having a rough time here. Katoa, sipili and also nonu(not playing but still)

We need to keep the pipeline to the islands and polynesian kids going. I hope these latest incidents and the kai fallout doesn't ruin that.

I was hoping for kaufasi and i'm wondering if any of this stuff had a part in it.I wanted to get that utah connection going too. Hopefully katoa will be playing as a buff and we can keep that utah thing going.

Well, hopefully he stays the course and cleans his act up.

I do know this, that tuioti OL coming here is a freaking NASTY MF.He'll be starting soon,he just crushed dudes and never let's up.

Wait hold on..Phone ringing....

Hello?
Hi Coach hawk
No,don't move tuioti to fb
Okay,your welcome.

Sorry about that valdezj:smile2:

Teenagers grow at different paces. I'll let the staff determine who goes where. The difference will be the kid who embraces the challenge. Competition :drink2: After the challenge is embraced, I don't care what position it is..... if they rise, it could be HUGE. No grind. Emotion and effort towards victory. I believe every player has it, if they can do the work. (which is a grind) ???

That state of the secondary will largely be determined by how much of a pass rush our front four can generate. If we cannot get pressure on the QB with the front four, then the secondary will be in for some long days, regardless of the talent back there.

That works both ways.

That only works both ways when you have Deon Figures and Ronnie Bradford as your CB's.

The CB's have to step up and cover the reciever for at least a second. It doesnt' matter if we had Joel Steed and Alfred Williams on the Line. They would still bomb on us all friggin day.

Even very pedestrian DBs can do that much. A strong DL makes a secondary look fantastic. A weak DL makes even a great secondary look not so good. For example, see the Donkeys from last year and the Buffs virtually every year under Barnett.
