So when do the preseason mags hit the stand?....

They seem to come out earlier every year. Last year I saw them aroung June 1. Anybody have any idea as to when those bad boys hit the stand?

Usually June. I usually only get Phil Steele's. His is always the most informative and accurate, he is good.

I would look for them at the end of the month. Like unleash, I get Phil Steele's college football mag, tons of info, rosters, schedules etc...

I used to get athlon and sporting news also but I prefer steele's mag.

I picked up a Phil Steele last year. Nothing wrong with it, but I got a serious case of sensory overload. All that small type and information about teams from as far back as '01 was too much for me. I like Athlon and Lindy's. But if you want the full monty, Phil Steele definitely packs in the info...even if it is like reading the insert in your prescription package.

I'll look at the others on the shelf, but the only one I buy is Steele's, I use it throughout the CF season.

Has some great info on the lines, records, h/a, turf vs grass etc...

They even give you the schedule and boxes to put the score in for each game.

The guy does his homework and actually spends time reviewing each team on an objective level.

Some of the mags know about 10 teams and wing the rest of them.

I always buy Steele's and think it's without question the best one out there, although I do agree that it's information overload. It's great to have as a reference throughout the season when reading about a CU opponent or watching another game, which I do plenty of. :smile2: The one thing I don't like about it is they have this detailed breakdown of each position for every team, but it doesn't have an "overview" or "outlook" for each team. For many teams out there, I just want a quick 4 or 5-paragraph synopsis I can go read and that's enough for me.

I also ended up buying Athlon's last year just to have another viewpoint.

I wish Lee Corso and Mark May would put out a football mag, they are flat out Brilliant........:wow::lol:

"Available June 2008 for only $8.95 on news stands near you." I found that on Phil Steele's web site

Does his website feature the same complete and utter disregard for aesthetics that his magazines are so famous for? The guy absolutely knows his stuff, and his is the only preview mag that I buy, but good lord it'd be nice if they let a professional graphic designer do some layout work for them. Such a ridiculous cluster****. Also, last year's mag had a pretty big error in the CU section - if I remember correctly they had CU as having 0 players drafted following the 2001 season... yeah, 0 players except for those 3 guys taken in the first 33 picks of the draft.

I used to buy Athlon, but that one's got the opposite problem: All form, no function. They clearly do a good amount of research on the teams in their top 10, but everyone else gets these incredibly generic synopsis that show nothing more than the fact that the staff at Athlon is either sincerely overworked or incredibly lazy.

Jesus ****, you find something to bitch about with everything.

I always pick up the Phil Steele college football and the Lindy's Pro Football mag. LOVE EM!!!!

There is nothing worth looking at in Lindy's except for the pictures of the hot chicks they always put on the cover...

Any idea when I can get this year's edition???

You are 100% right, Phil Steele's is the only one you need to buy. Lindy's, Athlon, SI, Sporting News and all the rest aren't worth buying. He missed on KU and MU last year but so did everyone.

Actually, a mag put out by Corso could make you alot of money. On his big game predictions - bet on the other team.

Do you disagree with anything I said there? It's a great magazine in terms of its information (despite the CU errors last year), but it's ugly as sin. If he invested even a tiny sum of money into the layout of their magazine, Phil Steele could probably run all of the other college football mags out of existence.

Whether or not I agree with you is irrelevant, Ralphie. I was merely providing commentary on what seems to be an incurable need on your part to complain about something, regardless of the subject. Perhaps my delivery was too blunt; I apologize if I offended.

As to the subject at hand, Steele's audience is the number junkies and those who bet on football. Since I don't give a rat's ass about a team's performance over the last 400 years on artificial turf when the mascot is wearing diapers and attendance is at 95.3% of capacity, I don't read his mag.

You don't read his mag to learn about that. Just know that if CU didn't have a good record over the last 400 years on artificial turf when the mascot is wearing diapers and attendance is at 95.3% of capacity, 77, Jimmy or Slade would have been here bitching about it by now...

I'm not offended, I just haven't heard that complaint from people before. Regardless of whether you're right or wrong, I just think your argument is misplaced - relative to JimmyBuff and Syko I'm a purebred prodigy of optimism! :smile2:

There is alot of information crammed into his magazine, but I don't think there is another publication whose predictions come even close to his accuracy.

JimmyBuff tells it like it is - the last 5 years or so have been very disappointing for CU football and us the fans. I think Hawkins has us back on the right track, but he has got to start winning some freakin games. This is year #3 - no more slack. I think it's way too early to even think about giving him a contract extension. He has not had a winning season yet.

Leave me out of this. You'll know when I start bitching.:smile2:
