I thought it'd be neat to see some old Buff pics on this thread. Lets see if you guys can date yourselves by naming them. I'll start with an easy one.

Name this Buff.

Jim Hansen. Check out what he's been doing more recently...pretty impressive! We'll be seeing similar things from Hypolite in the coming years.

http://wind.mit.edu/~hansen/index.html

Jim's moved on, left cold Boston for Atmospheric research in sunny San Diego...better weather, no classes to teach and can focus on the research. When he gets elected president, he better have a cabinet post for me, because I still have the pictures...Will Vill 88, Sterns West representing!!!!:smile2:

#61--Joe Romig...I smell a theme...Nope, Not Romig...dang....good one!!

At practice in 92 Jim asked coach Mac if he finished his part of Jim's Rhodes Scholar app. and Mac told him yes, so I asked if he finished mine. he said "what road are you getting on?" "I-75 headed to Florida...."

Awesome!!! Rep delivered!

For the record...

I erased my Sam Harris response (not that I'm very smart, I just checked out the cubuffs.com list of playboy All Americans and it listed Harris for 1966) BUT his build and jersey number suggested Tight End (or Wide Receiver).

Did the numbers designate something different in 66?

A little OT but i found this vid of Chris Naeole. Keep in mind he's listed on NFL.com as 6-3 328. Look at him move.

Just before the preseason games started, I sniffed around the net to see where former Buffs were playing. Naeole isn't listed on anyone's roster. Did he retire? I don't remember hearing anything about him.

He was released by the Jags in March....still a free agent. Not sure if he still wants to play...

Correct. Like Walrus said earlier, these guys were all on the playboy All American squads. So now i have to find something different. Thanks walrus.:smile2:

Ooops, sorry. I though the source was understood. Perhaps not everybody else's father had the subscription.

I'm an a-hole.

Yup, #88 in the top left of the '71 photo is Herb Orvis. All-American defensive end. He was a little older than most guys as he had served in the U.S. Army. A good guy who was as mean as they come on the field.
Another defensive lineman on the team, Bud Magrum had also served in the military. He was a former U.S. Marine. I believe he was awarded a Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam. His son Ryan made the team a few years ago, but injuries kept him from playing. Bud sadly died in an auto accident over 15 years ago. Another good guy who was tough as nails.
