I know the preseason polls are basically worthless, but please explain to me how the nubs are getting votes at all. They basically sucked last year, and now they have a new coach who is in his first year. I think this shows exactly how stupid these polls are, and how they basically rank on teams rep. Stupid.

Sidenote - it is raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock in Denver right now. We do not get rain like this that often

Raining like hell in Monument too. Maybe a wet snowy winter. Makes standing in a river waving a stick a little bitter but boarding should be stellar.

same reason OU used to start the season in the top 15 every year in the 90's when they were 8 win teams at best. and ND makes the BCS if they win 8 games.

Nebraska, Notre Dame and Washington getting votes? Washington could very well start out 0-3 (at Oregon, BYU, Oklahoma).

Another gripe - Alabama is ranked. Yes, they had the #1 recruiting class, but, c'mon, who are we kidding here? Had they blown the 27-0 lead over the Buffs in the Independence Bowl, would Saban be as brilliant? Puh-leese.

At least the Buffs have the chance to make their case on the field. Bring on the season!

The votes for the domers and the huskers means nothing. Do not get worked up so much. Come back after about week 3 or 4 then check the poles.

They only got 2 votes each from the AP - probably 2 people with some kind of allegiance.
Actually, the top 10 looks about right. I sure hope Ohio State doesn't make the championship game again. I think an SEC team is going to finish #1.

Call me crazy, but I kind of see OU making a run at the championship, they have a VERY favorable schedule(meaning they don't play us:smile2:).

If they can handle Texas Tech in Norman.

Ohio State (hate'em, their fans and their conference) should have the guns to get it done this year. We'll know a lot more on September 13th.

Won't beat USC. I can't wait for that game. It's gonna be awesome. Possibly the best non-CU game of the year. And I should note that I can't stand either team, but I respect them a lot. Very good programs at the top of the game right now.

I like USC, but hate Ohio St. The Big 10 is an overatted conference and the luckeyes will be exposed once again.

What about when they play US in the Big 12 championship?:smile2:

Totally forgot about that!

On the AP poll I believe the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World Herald each has 1 reporter with voting rights.

On the USA Today I am not sure. Here is who votes;

The USA TODAY Board of Coaches is made up of 61 head coaches at Division I-A institutions. All are members of the American Football Coaches Association. This season's board: Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech; Mike Bellotti, Oregon; Bret Bielema, Wisconsin; Bobby Bowden, Florida State; Tommy Bowden, Clemson; Art Briles, Baylor; Mack Brown, Texas; Neil Callaway, Alabama-Birmingham; Gene Chizik, Iowa State; Mario Cristobal, Florida International; Sylvester Croom, Mississippi State; Mark Dantonio, Michigan State; Butch Davis, North Carolina; Todd Dodge, North Texas; Randy Edsall, Connecticut; Phillip Fulmer, Tennessee; Jeff Genyk, Eastern Michigan; Turner Gill, Buffalo; Joe Glenn, Wyoming; Todd Graham, Tulsa; Jim Grobe, Wake Forest; Dan Hawkins, Colorado (is this where we got our 1 vote?); Pat Hill, Fresno State; Butch Jones, Central Michigan; Steve Kragthorpe, Louisville; Mike Leach, Texas Tech; Jim Leavitt, South Florida; Rocky Long, New Mexico; Bill Lynch, Indiana; Doug Martin, Kent State; Urban Meyer, Florida; Les Miles, LSU; Shane Montgomery, Miami (Ohio); Hal Mumme, New Mexico State; Rick Neuheisel, UCLA; Tom O'Brien, North Carolina State; George O'Leary, Central Florida; Gary Patterson, TCU; Bo Pelini, Nebraska; Chris Petersen, Boise State; Gary Pinkel, Missouri; Mike Price, Texas-El Paso; Mark Richt, Georgia; Mike Riley, Oregon State; Rich Rodriguez, Michigan; Greg Schiano, Rutgers; Howard Schnellenberger, Florida Atlantic; Mark Snyder, Marshall; Frank Solich, Ohio; Steve Spurrier, South Carolina; Rick Stockstill, Middle Tennessee; Jeff Tedford, California; Joe Tiller, Purdue; Bob Toledo, Tulane; Dick Tomey, San Jose State; Jim Tressel, Ohio State; Tommy Tuberville, Auburn; Charlie Weis, Notre Dame; Kyle Whittingham, Utah; Tyrone Willingham, Washington; Ron Zook, Illinois.

You have to assume the first poll of the season is pretty laughable. I bet Pellini got a pat on the back from some old friends and opponents from the SEC and Big 12. I like the idea put forth where the poll doesn't start until half way through the regular season. Half the top 25 will fart their way out of it by mid season.
