It was interesting that Rodney Stewart was nowhere to be seen on the special teams kickoff of punt return units. Must need to work on catching the ball cleanly?

No other real surprises at the point. Overall, we have huge promise with real talent almost everywhere. And while we are young, there is lots of experience down through the sophomore class on the 2-deep.

With the conditioning program and the no huddle adding to the number of reps the teams see in practice, I think we will seem an older more experienced team than the numbers would suggest.

Lawd I am ready for this season to get underway. Go BUFFS!

I was a bit surprised to see Scott listed as 3rd, though from what I've been reading it doesn't sound like he put in the work others did over the summer.

Not surprised, he didn't show up until pretty late into the summer.

He'll be starting by mid-season. That, and I recall a third string RB nailing the Fuskers for 6 TD's.

I thought it was interesting to see Behrens on top at RG with Tuoti-Mariner and #3 at center. Might the coaches be looking to move Behrens inside next year and get them both on the field or is he just "filling in" as the #3 center because they really have no one else?

How often is the #3 center gonna see the field?

This is true, but they were experimenting with Shawn Daniels for a while. I think Iltis was getting some work too before he got injured. So I was wondering if Behrens is their next option. I'm thinking all options are on the table for next year when it comes to center.

Putting Moyd at #2 is a reach imo. I think Hagan is challenging him to prove everyone wrong. I think Scott is the #2 back. The only reason he's not is because of the nagging little injuries and a small case of fumblitis during fall camp.

My opinions on the newly released depth chart.

I understand its a 'grouping' here. But I think, like i mentioned above, that this is a motivation thing for Moyd. He really hasn't stepped up. He has great speed and he's been a big contributer on ST's. Maybe he'll be the suprise of the season. No one is really expecting it. Making Moyd the #2 seems to me like a challenge. I hope he does well. Scott is fine. This isn't really anything to look too much into really. The freshman are all kind of our #3's. I say RS Polk.

The WR's are a worry for me. They are listed in groupings again. I hate this grouping thing. Losing Simas hurts. But no real suprises here.

I'm glad to see Behrens stepping up. I was real high on this kid when he committed. He turned down Miami flat at their camp when he was offered a scholarship. Told'em he was a Buff. I also see him listed at center. This is also a good move. I think he could be a great center. But if your going to do it then make the kid a center. Don't have him practicing at guard. You might as well get him ready to replace Girthy. I am not suprised that MTM is up there at guard. The kid looks ready to play now. He's a force. The only other head scratcher is moving Bahr to tackle. I thought he'd put up a fight at guard. Adkins will be the other backup. I'm almost 100% that they'll RS Givens.

Another 'grouping' for the TE's. But I expect it to be Geer, Deehan, and Devanny. RS for Wallace(weight). But it'd be nice to have Wallace on the field creating some mismatches out there. Geer and Deehan will be a awesome duo. Deehan catches anything near him, and doesn't go down easy. He's been working hard during the summer to get ready to see some major PT this year. Devanny is a good player too. I'm sure we'll see him making plays this year.

THe suprise on the dline( at least to me) is Brace is the #1 at RE. I expected another grouping thing with him and Herrod. Brace is a good player. He was hurt last year, but saw alot of PT in 06. Looks like they moved Obi to LE. Good move. Another year and he'll be ready to make an impact.

The LB's went as i expected. I was wrong on the Will spot. Looks like Burton over Mohler. But i know this is a close race. Burton is a beast at 250+. But i expect to see alot of Mohler this year. He's looked good in practices. I'm also glad to see Burton putting his academic problems behind him. Well done.

And now for the secondary. Obviously it's Walters and Dykes at the safety spots. Dykes has quietly had a great camp. The LCB spot goes to Cha'pelle Brown. He's quieted alot of doubters with solid play. Sure he got burned as a freshman but he was tossed in the fire imo. He bounced back last year. He's a good open field tackler. But i'm sure we are going to hear people bitch and moan about his height. Jalil Brown is the backup and also our Nickel back. He had a good scrimmage. It looks like he's building off of that. RCB is no suprise either. Gardner McKay had, what the coaches said, the best camp he's ever had. He's really put all of the peices together. Anthony Wright is a solid backup. But the biggest shocker of the depth chart is Jimmy Smith as the 3rd stringer. I thought his injury wasn't that serious. I wonder if anything else is going on.

Josh Smith at PR and KR isn't that big of a suprise. He was clearly the best threat at the last scrimmage. He returned a PR for a TD and a KR for about 45 yards(Correct me if i'm wrong). He makes on move and he's gone. Really impressive. Rodney meanwhile didn't have a great scrimmage. He fumbled a PR, and didn't look confident back there. I know i've been hyping him up. I thought he'd have this spot locked down. But JFly has clearly shown himself to be the better return man. Sumler did well blocking for JFly during the scrimmage. But he's not a homerun threat like Smith is.

Surprised to not see Givens in this discussion. #2 doesn't sound like RS territory to me.

His weight is low due to stress from the whole recruiting process. It really took it's toll on the kid. He'll RS for sure. Barring injury of course.

I saw that he was listed at #2 for backside protection, behind Solder, BUT, I missed the word "or" following his name.

I don't think it's important because Solder is a stud. Hopefully he'll stay healthy all year. But i also took it as Givens was the #2. But it'd be tough to throw in a 250 pound tackle out there. Don't get me wrong, Givens is awesome. He'll be playing on Sunday's imo. But i think he needs a year with Pitt to get himself back on track weightwise. Jmho here.
