Im disappointed...

that this game isnt going to be played in Denver anymore.

I went to the game yesterday pretty much indifferent to where the future of the series is held, but now I cant help but be disappointed that it wont be in Denver anymore.

Neither programs can bring the atmosphere this game has on this stage. This is as big of an event that there is for college FB in the state of Colorado, and having the game on a Sunday only increased the exposure.

Its great tailgating with a 50/50 split of fans. Its great seeing one side of the stadium going nuts for a TD, then not a minute later seeing the other side going nuts for a TD in response.

I know the arguments, local vendors/establishments, yada yada. But Im a college football first and foremost, so that to me is a weak argument. To move an event like this in order to sell more pints in the pubs, lame.

As for the game, CU outplayed CSU and deserved the win. Congrats to them. I didnt think CSU gave it their best shot, gotta come out guns blazing to pull off the win in this game and there were more than a few questionable decisions. But none the less, CU was the better team yesterday.

I sat next to the coolest old dude. Talking to him I learned that he had graduated from CSU back in the 60's, now living in Montrose Colorado and has only missed one home game in the past two decades. Both Universities need more fans like this, his enthusiasm was contagious.

Lastly, I will never understand fans who get tix in opponents territory and talk massive chit. Had 4 Buff fans who were obnoxious. 2 eventually got thrown out. Best interaction of the night with them was when I asked in 100% serious fashion "Who is CUs backup QB" and none of them knew. After that I knew they werent worth the breath wasted on smack talk.

Congrats on the victory Buff fans.

I think the game belongs on both campuses. I've never liked Invesco as the Broncos home and even less as a college football venue. CSU ought to use it as a positive to create a great atmosphere at Hughes when the Buffs come to town. Thanks for the congrats and as far as the obnoxious fans next to you, you know there are asshole fans in every fan base.

Traffic sucked, the amount of drunk people just sucks. The game at Invesco allows more people into the stadium, yeah. But dude....it was quiet as hell last night (I think, I was there I got yelled at for standing up in my section). It brings out all the casual (I use casual fans loosely, it's more like people that go to a game just because there's a game in town) fans that know absolutely nothing. There was a 6 year old leading the "It sucks to be, a CSU Ram" chant before the game. His dad egged him on too!

I'm all for the game, but seriously. The amount of bad fans that come out of the wood work is just lame. I know there's drunk students at every game, but having the game at Invesco allows it to multiply ten fold

Invesco seems sterile.

I really don't see the local business argument as lame. College towns support their team. It is more than a few more pints at the pub, it is also hotel rooms, restaurants, grocery stores, etc.

I was sitting in the stands last night thinking to myself that the city of Denver is getting all the "extra" tourist type money. Why? They have nothing to do with college football in this state. If Denver truly wants money involved with college football, then there needs to be a push for the Big 12 Champ game to be held in Denver every once in awhile.

I posted last night that CSU should do what they want to do...if they want an Invesco game every other year then so be it. I think CU home games should be held in Folsom so that the community where the actual school is located can benefit. If CSU benefits more from a Denver game, then by all means they should continue holding it there.

Agree 100%. It would be a great venue for the CCG and Denver could easily accomodate the fans for the game. I've heard the lame excuses about the winter weather, about Denver being farthest away from "most" of the B12 teams, etc., but it just doesn't wash with me. It's no colder than KC and major highway/airport facilitate the transportation part of this possibility.

Denver should make a hard push to host the game.

while i certainly prefer the feel of a college campus game, lammie is right in the fact that this one is important to have in denver. if anything else, for the kids sake. ryan miller was quoted as discussing this point late last week.

that being said, denver makes a KILLING off this game. however, they are also an epicenter for a number of fans of both teams. so long as both teams can get fans in stands, it is an electric atmosphere. based off last night, i do not think csu has any ground to stand on in demanding a 50-50 split of the revenue.

for the most part, i think the games should be in invesco. if a campus truly feels the need to option the game to their home campus in any year, then no hard feelings. what makes everything worse is when a financial decision is questioned as cowardice. the buffs are set to step to the plate at invesco or hughes, make no mistake about it. the game can be wherever the ram's hearts want it when it is THEIR home game. they exercised that option. nonissue.

i do not see the series as dead, despite the grand drama from fart collins the past few days, and the vitriol of its fan base. so long as it has meaning to the players on each side, i am down with kicking ram ass.

Strange, something we agree on that almost nobody else does.

I just think that this game in Denver brings something that cant be recreated in Boulder or the Ft. If the city of Denver is making too much money off the deal, then its up to the two universities to come together and strike a deal with the sports commission (or whoever they are) to make a deal that is equitable to all sides.

I don't think anyone is talking about the money the sports commission is making on the game, it is the "tourist" money that having the game in town brings...all those fans bring in a lot of money shopping, eating out before and after the game, hotel rooms, etc.

i think both universities should use the two year hiatus to strongarm them into a deal that is more generous to the universities. math would demonstrate that the biggest winner so far has been the commission. they are going to be the biggest losers. you still don't get 50-50 until you can fill the seats :haha:

hey! i have a separated at birth for ram fans! remember the top 25 worst ncaa mascots? the rice predatowl?

equation_400.jpg

what we have here is a predator infecting a dirty bum and ending up with a filthy predatowl (outraged, no less)

how about these for separated at birth?

i see the similarity...

Has anyone seen a breakdown of the number of fans that actually went to the game for both schools?

I know the Buffs side was allegedly sold out, but we had a ton of empty seats surrounding us. I imagine several season tickets holders opted not to go to the game. I think, particularly for this debate, it would be interesting to know if the reason they didn't go was because the game was in Invesco or for some other reasons unrelated to location.

Ok, so say CU and CSU strike a better deal with the commission, getting more $ in the end, then could kick back money to their local corporate sponsors to "compensate" them for money lost. Plus, then it would encourage more local businesses to become sponsors of the athletic dept.

Just an idea, not sure how practical it is.

I know a lot of students had to get tickets in the nosebleeds and sneak into the student section. Probably doesnt account for all the empty seats though.

Agree with you Husker.. I've went back and forth with it, but I think CU and CSU should play in Denver every year..

I blame both parties equally for this "controversy"..

Nice thought but it would NEVER happen.

Empty corners on the CU side too. Not as empty as the CSU half, but definitely noticeable and enough to question if the "sell out" was legit.

i actually kind of like invesco for broncos games only. it has grown on me a bit.

but i hate it for the rocky mountain showdown....at the old mile high and invesco. it just doesn't 'feel' right. never has.

the best games in this series, recently, have been 2004 and 2005. hands down.

and there were quite a few empty seats on the CU side and even MORE on the CSU side. move the game to each campus, where college football games belong.

leave the cavernous NFL stadiums for NFL teams.....and democratic national convention nomination speeches. thanks for the crappy field, obama. (i hope they re sod before the first broncos game)

when the allotment was gone, it was gone. they did not have any more tix to sell, and were referring fans to the csu athletic department.

i am sure they would have taken the money if they could.

I was trying to compare just based on sight who had more fans at the game. Definitely an unscientific way to approach it. It looked like CU had more, but there were definite bare spots.

70K tickets @ $50 each = $3.5M revenue
CU's Cut = ~$600K
CSU's Cut = ~$500K
Metro Denver Sports Commission = $2.1M. That's a 60% take.

This excludes parking, concessions, broadcast revenues, ect.

If the people of Denver want the game at Invesco, then have the MDSC quit being so chintzy. How about giving the schools a bigger cut of the box office?

I like keeping the game on campus and Folsom is at the heart of CU's campus. Nothing beats milling around the stunning CU campus prior to game time.

Alas, Hughes Stadium is out in the styx, and is decidedly not anywhere near the CSU campus. I suppose if I were a CSU alum in the Denver area, it would be a grind to drive up I-25 and hook a left to arrive up to a dirt parking lot.

Invesco is a lot more convenient for Ram fans and less charming for CU fans.

there you go!!! and btw I did find a blog someplace that had the payout to each school's OOC payout, low I think was 275K and high was 950K, but I cant find it now, (i think dallas mornign news) CU & CSU are getting royally screwed in the amount of money they receive for playing the game at Invesco.....

I am trying to find what the City of Dallas shells out to Texas and Oklahoma to play at the Cotton Bowl..... and to me thats what CU & CSU need to ask close to or equal to play in Denver.... you said earlier its all about the money....

This is the only real rational reason that I can think of as to why Kowalczyk would announce the Ft Collins 2010 game so quickly after Bohn's press release. He had to strike while the iron is hot. Seems like he put the ball squarely in the court of Denver CSU alums to succeed where he failed.

The easier answer is that the CSU AD is nuts. Either way, hope his resume is current.

I saw $50.00 being charged for parking!!! UnF**kingbelievable!!!

I sat there thinking that all I hear are echoes (could barely hear either band), I don't know the people around me, and the process of getting into the stadium was an absolute joke. The game belongs on campus. If you want big game in a pro stadium pay to go the the bowl.

What problems did you have getting in to the stadium?

It took over 25 minutes in line. An absolute mess. I can't understand how a facility that puts on 10 pro games per year, with more fans, so smoothly ****s up this game each time I've been to it.
