Hey Colorado! Rodney "Speedy" Stewart is from Columbus, Ohio!

Why does the program and announcers say Westerville? He is far from that! Geeze! Columbus Brookhaven was his high school.

Solid lookin runner, and a great nickname! Too bad he didnt return the other excellent return or this kid would already be a legend. Here's to hoping he has a great future with Da Buffs!

CU media has him listed as Westerville, Ohio ( Brookhaven ). When he puts on 10 more pounds, you got the return of Eric Bieniemy. Reminds me of Darren Sproles also. He might be stronger than EB already with a 380 bench press. What a find - good recruiting.

I was very impressed with him today. The fumble put him in the doghouse, but he'll bounce back.

Holy chit do we have some guys who can run the rock or what?

4 rushes for 38 yards isn't half bad, that one run where he got popped but picked up another 7-8 yards was awesome. Our running back corp with Scott 1, Speedy 2, and Sumler for 3rd downs is going to be amazing.

I agree. They have a powerful backfield. Can you guys win the conference?

Anything is possible, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. Missouri is very good, as is Oklahoma. I think the B-12 has 5 teams in the top 15, and CU isn't one of them - yet.

Those 4 will help carry this team for a chance to win a Big 12 title.

Columbus Brookhaven, hey I grew up in massillon, ohio. Is dublin scioto and coffman still ruling in columbus? I see xavier and colerain are still at the top down in the natty.

that kid looks awesome... lets get the hometown correct so that we can focus on him kicking @$$ this year...

Buffysko......last year Dublin Coffman made it to the final four in the Division 1 play-offs, but they lost too many stars, two of them to Ohio State. Scioto, no.

Speedy's fumble kept him from stealing the spotlight from Scott in the opener.
Other than the turnover, he was electric each time he touched the ball.

Ball contol is the only reason he didn't get more carries.

I was really impressed by Stewart. His acceleration is nuts. I did notice that when he runs he needs to hold onto the rock better. That was evident on the fumble, but I noticed it a few times before it. That's ok though, that's easily correctable. I'd like to see him line up in the slot with Scott in the backfield. YIKES!

Oh and it's crazy to think that this guy didn't even get a nod from some of the major programs around Ohio. His size does put him at a disadvantage (I'm 5'7" myself), but holy crap he is strong. While it'll be hard for him to be drafted into the league, he is definitely more than fine for the college game. The Big 10 programs are all about power football so I could see how many would overlook over him. Their huge loss, our huge gain.

I wish him the best of luck this year, but judging from what I saw he won't need it. Dude is a stud.

Ever hear of Darren Sproles - he isn't 5'7", maybe 5'6" at the most.

He didnt play his junior year due to injury. Bad year to miss when you are trying to be recruited. SO glad we got him though.

Anyone know why Speedy isn't back with JFly on the kickoffs? I understand putting someone more experienced on the punt return to make sure they don't fumble (whoops...JFly) but the KR is less of a worry. I supposed having Sumler back there is good because he can do a better job making the lead block out of the endzone. But, having Speedy and JFly back there together could also be pretty interesting.

That's an excellent question.

My guestimation is that the KR position is all about ball control and being fearless when 11 huge guys are running at you at 25mph.

It's taking J-Fly a while to overcome his jitters.

As we saw at OU last season, a fumble on a PK is a game changer. Good Hands > Good Speed.

Maybe. But the Times-Call article linked on the homepage says:

'Hagan said Stewart’s inactivity wasn’t solely due to the fumble, but it was a big reason.

“I didn’t want him to do it again and lose his confidence,” Hagan said.'

Okay, I can buy that one. I'm sure they'll be doing some extra stuff this week to reinforce "ball security" - probably with all the backs and receivers.

Speedy will be back on the field. He is really fun to watch.

This is a story I'd like to follow. When Polk was stripped at the goal line in training camp, he had to cradle the FB and elbow his way from end-zone to end-zone.

Didn't Rashan Salaam have to carry the FB around campus all week w/o it getting stripped?

Then there is Edward Pigskin Hands; One football, one roll of duct tape...

True, there definitely are exceptions, and RS seems to be one of them, but you cannot deny that size isn't a factor. Sproles is definitely one of the most underrated backs in the NFL. Small guys like that--hell, I know I do when I play any sports--since you can prove your naysayers wrong. RS plays that perfectly well. He has a chip on his shoulder and isn't afraid of contact. Remember, he beat out the 13th best RB recruit in the nation last year for PT. That has to account for a lot.

I bet RS is a huge guy for a guy his height, but DTs and DEs are what 80 lbs heavier? That takes a huge toll on RBs with frames like Scott, it definitely takes a bigger one on guys like Stewart. I'm definitely not ragging on the guy and in fact I'm always really happy and root for the small guys, but RS will not be able to carry the ball 20-30 times a game consistently and not get hurt; but then again, you can say that about any RB. Sproles and LT are very nice compliments to each other. I'm hoping for the same dynamic on the Buffs.

While the fumble hurt his PT in the CSU game, he'll only use it to fuel him in the upcoming games.

GO BUFFS

Have you heard of Michael Turner and Maurice-Drew Jones???? 5'5" to 5'6" at the most.

Stewart will be back. This was his first game. So i wasn't that suprised by the fumble. Freshman mistake. He'll learn from it.

Maurice Drew - CU commit until RB coach Eric Bienemy moved to UCLA. Yes, we've heard of him.

I don't think anybody here is ragging on the kid. In fact, I think we're all very impressed with his performance in spite of the fumble. We know good running backs when we see them. He's good. I think it'll just take a little coaching to get some of the edges smoothed over, and he'll be awesome here.

If RS can add 20-30 #s to his frame and keep his speed like Maurice then WATCH THE **** OUT! Pound for pound he's probably the strongest guy on our team....as a FRESHMEN. He has everything he needs to get the job done, now he just needs to go out and do it. All of the talk is about DScott, but when the season is said and done RS could have a better freshmen year, especially if he lines up in the slot. It's going to depend on how the staff wants to use him.

Dude is going to be really nasty in another year. Really nasty.

The fumble also happened when it was raining. The rock gets a bit more slick when that happens. Can't wait to see him playing this week.
