My Criticisms

I know.... we won by 21 points even if u negate the kickoff returns and the turnovers.......

I am not one to criticize.... but the coach has to realize that our defense is playing not to lose. We need to dictate some aggressive play. Sometimes we let the opposing QB stand in there too long!

Scrimmage #2 is this Saturday and then we got 2 games where we NEED to win atleast one of them.

Order was restored but I am not thrilled..... I am not the pessimistic fan.... and our play bothers me..... that should say something.

Anyone else get the feeling we used maybe 2 pages in the defensive playbook sunday? Do we really need to show off all our blitz packages vs CSU and EW?

I am hoping thats the case. :smile2:

I think we used a total of two pages in both the offense and defense playbook. Shotgun run dive left, shotgun run dive right was all we showed. I don't remember us blitzing that much and the only reason LB's had sacks was because we were in the 3 - 4 and they flexed Brad Jones to play on the line. A lot of simple coverages. Vanilla. Which was smart. If we don't need it to win, save it.

I've heard third or fourth hand that we used about 20% of the playbook last Sunday. This apparently comes from somebody who can speak with authority on the subject. Whether it's embelleshed through the re-telling of the story or not, I have no idea. Take it for what it's worth, a third hand account. Just the same, it makes sense. CU gave WVA, FSU and UT nothing of substance to look at. My suspicion is that we won't give them anything to look at this week, either, although I think it would be a good idea to open it up a little, if for no other reason than to get some game-time practice with some of these plays & formations.

I disagree, but we all have opinions. Like HF said, it was a vanilla game plan. We also had 5 sacks.

I hope it was a vanilla game plan. 5 sacks is not indicative of our play..... they were terrible.

They were pretty good. We didn't need to go all out. I am pleased with our defense overall. We really only allowed them 3 points if you take away the return and a gift TD off good FP.

Were we watching the same game? I'm not a sunshine pumper, but am VERY satisfied. We are an incredibly young team playing an always tough opponent (no matter what the record) in our FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON. The speed we showed was tremendous and on D take away the short field TD on the INT and their KO return and the lambs scored 3 points. I never felt threatened by CSU for the entire game.

Terrible? Hyperbole much?

The rams rushed for 70 yards, threw for 180. In what world is that terrible?

wrong word to use..... they were "vanilla" I wasnt there on the sidelines so I dont know what Hawk called.... they didn't rush enough defenders and go after the QB as much as I hoped.... they rushed only 4 most of the time......

I am sorry, I am being to critical.... but I want the Buffs playing in the BCS.

Your expectations are too high for this season

I agree with vanilla, I made that comment to my buddies in the second Qtr. We ran the same basic plays on O and D for the whole game. Very basic, very vanilla and pretty much dominated the game from start to finish. Lots to like from that game. Hell, that score could have been waaaaay more lopsided too.

They were in '89, '90 and '94 as well :smile2:

No, we had legit national power teams in those years. Thsi team is not there yet, but it's getting there. A couple more good recruiting classes and the growth of this young team and I can see this team in the BCS in the near future. Actually I can see it happening within the next year if things roll right.

Thus the :smile2: icon.

Two years from now when Cody is a senior; Scott, Stewart, Katoa, and Major (is he medically red-shirting) are juniors; and these young linemen prospects we have rotating in & out mature; we will be in a BCS game. Hell, next year could be it too, depending on how the rest of the season progresses and what kind of progress Hawk can make in the offseason. (I fully expect 9-3+ next year)

I'm disappointed Nelson and Ballinger didn't get any mop up duty.

Both Nelson and Ballenger will see duty this year against *ebraska. That game will be in the bag by halftime.
