For a series that many are calling for an end, it sure sets some records...

The frilly lettuce they serve on hamburgers, mostly

That does nothing to my interest.

In all seriousness, there are factors on both sides that will lead to the temporary end of this series. Unfortunately for CSU, CU firmly holds the upper hand in the negotiations and until Penley and Kowalczyk resign themselves to this, the series is pretty much dead. The fact that CSU could not sell out their allotment for the 2nd year in a row coupled with declining attendance at their own stadium does not help.

I agree, there are problems with the series. But seeing stuff like this shows that people are interested, and both teams have a hard time pulling fans from this "Bronco crazy" region.

My problem with all this is, Many of these fans show up for 1 game only, pat themselves on the back and then never support either csu or cu the rest of the year. The orange and blue get their $$$$.

So when I hear these same people and the "good for the state" BS, I just

So what you're saying is that people are interested enough to watch on TV, but not go to the game, correct? If that's the case, why does it matter if it's played in Invesco or Folsom or Hughes?

One of the things that's good about having the game in Denver is that it shows that there is other football played in the State other than the Broncos. But that hasn't translated into additional ticket sales for CSU. I'm not sure it's translated into additional ticket sales for CU, either. I think the increase in ticket sales at CU has more to do with increased marketing efforts and better on-field product.

 And CU did sell out theirs. And we probably would have had more CU fans there for the game if it was at Folsom. :finger:

Notice how the Denver media doesn't mention this when blaming CU for the 'death' of the series.

No team in a BCS conference is going to, or should, let a team from a non-bcs conference dictate terms for a game like this.

So you would rather they not show up to any games at all?

Don't you think that if you are the AD at either CU or CSU and you are trying to get more season ticket holders that you'd rather host this game on campus and showcase your facility to potential season ticket buyers, than at Invesco? A over capacity CU/CSU game at Hughes at 35-37K that brings seems like long term it'd be more beneficial to the coffers of the CSU AD, no?

Seems to me that both CU and CSU should be trying to get more season ticket holders, which hopefully turn into donors, etc. To showcase the programs at Invesco seems to run contrary to helping to build a dedicated season ticket holder and donor base.

Thought this was interesting....

Game set ratings records for FSN. Cant argue that this series doesnt garnish interest in the state of Colorado.

While I'm impressed with the rating, I think it is very skewed this year. CU-CSU on Sunday night with nothing really opposing it. Does anybody really think they would have had the same sort of ratings if the game was on Saturday night with other choices?

I agree, there was not sports or football competition on TV Sunday.

CSU -v- AFA or CU -v- (<blank>) likely would have also set viewership ratings records on this special sunday night edition of Fox Sports Football Saturday.
The ratings of a Saturday matchup, competing against Illinois/Mizzou or Alabama/Clemson would have created an entirely different result.

What this tells me is that CSU needs Obama to host speeches at Mile High the Friday before RMS every year, for the good of the series.

CSU HUSKER...... This game should be played.... I love the fact that it is on TV and it just makes sense financially for BOTH teams..... compare a game in which CU and CSU get another opponant...... would both teams be better off? I dont think so and please prove otherwise..... we get SOME national audience and TV revenue..... would scheduling a tough 4th game against a BCS opponant net us more? My gut says no. This is a good game for us and Fox Sports is willing to pay to show it.

Especially since the scarcity at hughes would force CSU fans to buy season tickets if they wanted to get tickets to the CU game. Now, they really don't have to worry about that, so thats how they end up only selling, what 15,000 season tickets total?

This game is on TV No matter where it's played. the TV people don't care where it's played. Granted for a CSU home game it'd probably be carried on the POS station, but still a regional broadcast at minimum

The ratings were good because it was the only game on television. There's a reason FSN wanted the game moved to Sunday night-- they knew it was going to be the only live sports related television show worth watching on Sunday night. They also knew that it was the evening before a holiday, on the first weekend of the college football season.

I think it could have been any number of games, and the ratings would have been good. I don't think the fact that it was CU/CSU had much to do with the ratings.

This is an excellent point. While CSU might make more by playing the game in Denver, they probably lose more than they gain by selling fewer tickets to their own stadium for the rest of their games.

While it's probably true that the ratings would have been good for any college game on Sunday night, it certainly drew even better because of the teams involved, mainly CU.

I'd be curious to see where this game ranked nationally among TV sports ratings. That's one piece of info I've never been able to find on the internet. I did find similar info on Nielsen's website, but the latest I could find was a couple of weeks old and that was for the whole week.

The fact that the Rams failed to sell out their allotment for the second consecutive year, yet they are still whining about it not in Denver anymore is what boggles my mind.
Oh and for any ram fan that says CU is scared, ya, I think we are sooooo shakin in our boots after winning 5 of the last 6 and the last one being a total mismatch. CSU might have been "in" the game for a while, but CU was in total control of that game for the entire 60 minutes. I'm sure we're scared!!

38-17, back to the way it should be with CU/CSU. And next year will probably be worse for the lammies!

Some CSU fans are so addicted to the payday that they'll do and say anything for just one more score of RMS Invesco crack.

CSU's AD was right to move the 2010 game to Hughes. It'll be a bitter pill for casual fans in the Denver area, but will ultimately help CSU's long term viability.

Also, how many people tuned in to see the top running back recruit in the country?

sounds like there was some disagreement on that point, and rightfully so. it was the only show on tv at the time slot. course it would get some tune-ins. the lack of a sold out crowd is concerning no matter the tv ratings.

That says alot. CU sold out their alotment and then some. Yet the stadium wasn't filled - with almost no competition from Denver-area sports teams.

Some might argue that the game was held during a holiday weekend, and that both die-hard and casual fans may have had other activities. On the contrary - it seems that there would be more interest, particularly from families, since there was no school the next day. That considered, I just don't get why there wasn't a sellout.

I guess there just isn't as much interest in this game as the media would lead us to believe.
