Did Cody explain the spike with 1:15 and a timeout left in the half?

I just about went apoplectic at that. WTF is he doing spiking the freaking ball with 1:15 left in the half? Unreal.

Did anybody in a post-game conference ask him or coach Hawk about this? I'd love to find out what the thought process was.

I suspect it was nothing more than awful clock management, but maybe they have some zen voodoo reason for it.

Hawk had a brain-fart.. It made no sense to me and was beyond stupid. .

You spike the ball so you don't eliminate the running option. Or so you can work in a fifth down.

You give up a down, but spiking the ball saves you the timeout so you can still work the middle of the field with the pass and not have to run up and get set and spike it with the clock running down. It also saves the time out so you can work the middle of the field on third down since you can't spike it on fourth down.

Or they're all complete morons. I prefer to think they had the first strategies in mind though.

I would guess that since it was 4 down territory anyway, they wanted to talk it over and get everyone on the same page, and you want to save the timeout for when there is just a few seconds left and no chance to spike the ball. But it is just a guess.

That was awful clock management, only to be outdone by EWU at the end of the game.

dang nabbit fib! don't you know there is no appeasing the mob? lets ignore the fact for a moment that the loudest malcontents are some of the same who predicted a seriously lopsided score in the prediction thread despite the information that was on this board about how their strength played to our weakness. lets also ignore the fact that gobuffs08, buffsfan09, skids, daaaah, broncos1, and red dirt buff all were far more serious in assessing the opponent, predicted more realistically, and have not joined the pitchfork crowd.

im just saying, what the eff did some of our fans expect given what yesterday's opponent brought to the table? we got a frikkin win. why not say, "yay?" what is wrong with that?

With 1:15 remaining and a timeout in hand, there was no need to spike the ball - at least to my way of thinking. It might have been different if we had no timeouts remaining, but we did. That play typified the sloppiness of the effort, particularly on offense.

Looking through the paper this morning, I don't see any justification for it from coaches.

Yep. I think there was 1:17 if I remember right. We should have had 2 or 3 plays ready to go. I could not believe we spiked it. I told my wife right afterward that it was a bad play. But, like LB says, we won.

As for passing up the FG in the second half, I can't bash 'em because at the time I had no problem with going for it. The play sucked though. After missing a chip shot earlier, I think Hawk figured the odds of going for it were favorable.

Sacky is right. That play was a prime example of how totally unprepared we looked yesterday. There were way too many mental errors.

since you know so much about preparation and such, one would assume you can brush up your resume.

seriously, if you think you know better, bless your heart - go do better.

I know a lot about Preperation-H. LB, that was a bad play. It just was. Don't rip on anyone for saying so. It was obvious at the time that we cost ourselves a play by spiking with so much time left. But, hey, the time clock rules are new this year and we learned from it, right?

Anyone in that stadium watching the game yesterday could tell the team did not have their heads in the game and they weren't even executing basic football skills (cleanly fielding short kickoffs for example).

The idea that a fan cannot criticize anything coaching related is absolute BS.

rip on them? hella no. i am opening the world up to them if they think that they can do better.

i understand preparation and all, but JEESUS ****ING CHRIST life can come at you fast. there have to be at least a million different variations of what you COULD prepare for and personally, i think it is bankrupt to nitpick a kid for a mistake.

i would like to see ONE of the loud squakers who are acting as if a mistake is the end of the whole god damned world open up THEIR life and job performance to commentary and have it smashed around for "fun". NO ONE here has the balls to do that.

a mistake is a ****ing mistake. that is it. no one lost an eye, arm, leg, or anything else of value over it, unless they were serious dip****s and bet the ranch over it. even if they did, it is NOT the fault of those kids playing their hearts out, dee bee. some are acting as if the buffs need to compensate for every ****ing crappy thing in their lives, and THAT is out of line.

what is bs is acting as if you alone are free of a mistake by ripping on kids. this thread title is not ripping COACH hawk. it is ripping cody. why? because life came at him fast?

YOU have never been in a situation where you have made a mistake? EVER? really? bc that is what your constant bitching about the little things in life leaves the impression of.

Point taken.:smile: But it sounds as if this is on Big Hawk. What does he make? A million a year? Hey, when you make that much jack, you are open to a bit of criticism. Like I said, the clock rules have changed. I'd bet Hawk would admit he screwed the pooch on that one. Its all good. We won and will be better in those situations after going through it. The way I look at it, this particular situation is a net positive.

WTF? Hey DR.LAURA, if you're too sensitive for football talk then why are you here? You bash on anyone who has a comment that is not hawk love.

Go around to any other boards and fans are questioning certain aspects of there game or team, that's the way it is.

It was a dumb play and cost them points. Nobody is saying they know more than coaches, but it's pretty easy to see by watching that it was a dumb PLAY.

But go ahead, run to your "bash the players" card even though they are bashing the "play" not the player.

You want praise for everything cu does but will not tolerate any questioning when cu plays poorly. Great Logic.

Leave it to LB to rant uncontrollably like a drama queen while blasting others for going overboard with criticism.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

WTF are you talking about me constantly bitching about the little things in life? Grow the **** up. Not everyone agrees with your narrow worldview.

being as i got through yesterday's game in a manner that accepted mistakes as something to learn from instead of something to bitch about to fill a hole in my soul, i would say i have a skin thick enough to watch the game.

the same cannot be said for you, despite your attempt to explain it away as "passion" as "just having a 41st birthday" and as any other bologna you are going to come up with.

sack up, be objective. but stop acting as if these kids owe you anything.

leave it to boulderbuff to think that everyone cares what he thinks. why don;t you grow the **** up, as you have been ascing like a bruised vagina intermittently with respect to yesterday?

do you have a pair or don't you?

You're a class act LB. I doubt many people give a **** what I have to say. After all, they're mostly here to read all your insightful posts. I am okay with that.

here i thought that they were here to see you acting like the drama queen that you like to accuse others of being. your post on the vanilla thread was a huge step in the right direction of not choosing to do so.

i have said my bit.

Bravo, bravo time to get the cobwebs knocked out.
Everybody is in rare form today. It's a good thing we won.

Make sure you save some of this for huckster week the end of November when the flamers all show up on the board.

You can get some practice on cunu too. A huckster chump if there ever was one
