Please come save my Alma mater- University of Memphis. I think he is the perfect fit and a steal at that. We are paying Tommy F'in West 900k to suck it up for 7 years; Come show the light to these clowns. He could pull down a million a year here - the money is there. Who has the contacts.

if your needs with at risk students supercede the needs of the university to have a good working relationship with the community, then you are right.

maybe. he has been prone to throw kids under the bus. at-risk kids don't play that. he does blindly support his friends, or so it would seem with zero watson accountibility.

one thing is sure, he did not fit with the buffs in the end.

Barnett is a good FB coach. He deserves another chance.

agree insomuch as i am going to hope lightning does not strike twice at the same place.

slick rick has got love for growing up. i would guess gb learned a thing or two about cukoo crazee.

No, he is not.....he belongs in some second tier college football analysis role. Let the j-bag continue to live off of the millions that CU delivered to him, and keep him out of D1 ball....

BS anyone who says GB couldn't COACH is an idot.

He COULD coach...Northwestern how ever many years ago. The game passed him by....that is why nobody is calling him now...

i would guess why no one is calling him has more to do with the supposed "scandal" and his un-pc comments about a certian kicker than anything else. 70-3 does not help either but there is a hell of a lot more to that story than just the score, imo.

the guy, imo, is a good person, a good coach and is worthy of another oppertunity. he will not get a high profile job. that is certian but, a school like memphis could do a hell of a lot worse.

Even though I disagree with you... Anyone decided or know where he is or what he's doing?

if i remember correctly, he is still doing his celeb golf turny in colorado every year. i believe i read a stroy about that this summer. not 100% on that though.

i think during last years CF season, he did some color commentary on the radio. again, if my memory serves.

other than that, sitting on a bundle of cash.

and working with at-risk youth, as the link demonstrates.

gb is a great coach....he got ****ed here because no one had the balls to stand by him. Kinda sad. He could always do more with less. He did it at NW and here.

The only person that ****ed GB was GB. He should've fired his OC, but didnt. He should've kept his mouth shut, but he didn't. He should've changed his recruiting policies, and style, but didn't. I can go on all day like this. :smile2:

Yes you are right, however IMO if this university wanted to protect him, they could have. They stuck him on an island by himself. Hell even wen Bobby Knight got into trouble and did the interviews he had the regent board next to him to answer questions. If you know you have a coach that wears his emotions on his sleve, and misplaces his brain mouth filter...you don't put him in a position to fail. Unless you don't have the courage to stand next to him, and they did not

Yeah. But you can't really compare Bobby Knight with Gary.

It was a failure on both ends. As a coach at a BCS school, you always have a camera in your face about alot of different things. When something like this happened, i'm sure the school was telling GB to keep his mouth shut. ****, i'm sure his lawyer said the same thing. So i really don't agree with the "put him in the situation to fail" deal. Gary is a smart man. He knew that he messed up when he ran his suck about Katie. He has no one to blame but himself.

yes. one of GB's faults was that he was loyal to a fault with watson. however, he did fire the DC and bring back coach hank. i have said it before and i will say it agian. i think it would have been a smart move by hawk to keep coach hank in Boulder.

Okruch(sp). He got alot of heat for sticking with him till he finally fired him. But if i remember correctly he did everything to stick with him. There is nothing wrong with being loyal to your friends. But every coach should know that this is a business first. Never personal.

Hank was the man. I loved his style. I think he wanted to leave though. He found a job with Wisco rather quickly.

He left the program low on talent. You gotta have talent to succeed in a bigger way than the Big 12 North of a few years ago.

Sorry, but I blame Bitsy on that. She is the one that forced the recruiting restrictions on GB, IMO. I sure as hell don't think he just undertook them on his own. I'd venture to guess it was "change the way you recruit or I will find someone that will." My sense was that GB didn't want to do it but had a big enough ego to think he could succeed.

GB was on the radio prior to the CSewe game and all but admitted the game has passed him by, at least at the D1 level.

He does not enjoy the win at all cost, $$$ is everything way college athletics are being run.

If he was to get back into coaching I would guess it would be D2 or some other lower level where he can just coach kids and not have to worry about all the crap that comes with D1.

Go ahead and have Barnett...Yeah he can coach but that's all he will ever do. Atleast Hawk does other things for the University. After all there is more to life than football

1. I thought GB was going to come back and run the space program, what else would you expect him to do?
2. What else does Hawk do? Is he running the math department, That may explain why the game was so close this weekend, let's just leave him to football.
3. No there isn't, if you are a football coach!

Listen to Hawk and he will say exactly the opposite

Do you know any football coaches?
Yes he says it, because its the PC thing to say, but deep down he knows better.

And you know what he is thinking? So i guess Hawk is a liar huh:rolleyes: No one ever forced him to talk about academics or the University in general, he did it on his own.

Yes I do know what he is thinking. He is thinking with a little more experience on the OL and a couple more top recruits we will challenge for the nc in a couple years.
He is not a liar....he is being PC. Make no mistake about it...he is there to win football games, academics plays no part in his job, other than to keep his players on the field.
If it really mattered he would only sign straight "A" players.
