Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

I don't know if we want him at QB or LB but I watched him against TJ and he is a bad a$$!!! He will probably be the number 1 recruit out of Colorado 2010. Ryan Miller needs to get this guy to Boulder!!

Hawk's invited him to every game to be on the sideline...

he is better friends with cunningham than miller. He wants to play for a christian coach, hence the uga interest. I think when all is said and done, he's a buff

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Hawk a pretty devout Christian? I know he's not preaching from the Pulpit like Coach Mac, but I'm pretty sure he's Christian.

That 5280 thing said he went to Mass every Sunday, right?

Ya i saw him at the game. Well if you wanna get technical Hawk is a devout Catholic. How did he like his visit?

I occasionally see him at St Mary's on South Boulder Road. He sent Drew to Holy Family High in Broomfield.

Maybe Coach Mac can help... no one is better suited if religion is an issue.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

Are we recruiting as a QB?

I heard columbine only runs.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

Remember that Ryan Walters played QB in high school. He was recruited to CU as a QB, and was very quickly converted to safety.

We can use some athletic playmakers at LB. Not that we don't have them already, but we can always use some more.

I thought Walters was recruited with the idea of converting him to Safety.

Except Mac isn't the coach. Depending on how evangelical the kid is, Hawk being Catholic could be an issue.

Danny's family is strong catholic...

he grew up idolizing ND, but, seems to not have those desires any longer.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

He'll likely play QB in college in my opinion. He could have played QB last year as a softmore but Senior QB Kyler also was a very capable QB. Probably more of team need for Danny to play LB. He also kicked for Columbine last year. Columbine has traditionally been a run first/often offense but it's also been awhile since Columbine has had that type of versatility in a QB.

If he wants to play QB in college, he's going to have to convince Lowry to pass the ball at least 15 times a game, something I don't think is in the cards. I could be wrong, but Columbine has never been a passing team. They don't generally have the receivers who can run the routes and catch the ball.

Probably not if he wants to attend any of the schools he mentions as favorites.

Rebel Throws the Rock

Last week at the Rocky Mountain High School 7 on 7 tournaments Columbine QB Danny Spond showed the Rebels may be ready to air it out.

Any fan of Colorado High School football knows that the Columbine Rebels run the ball, then they run the ball and after that they run it some more. Who is arguing? The run first strategy has brought the Rebels multiple 5A state titles over the past ten years. Last season, the Rebels went 11-1 throwing the ball less than 75 times while two runners went over the 1,000 yard mark. Things may change some this upcoming season as last year’s back up QB Danny Spond takes over the signal calling duties. This past weekend, Spond looked good as the Rebel O opened things up at the Rocky Mountain High School 7 on 7 competition.

Columbine finally stops Bear Creek
By Paul Willis, Rocky Mountain News
Published October 10, 2008 at 11:50 p.m.

So many fundamental differences exist between the Columbine and Bear Creek football teams that they might remind some of the presidential candidates in regard to disparity in philosophy.

Columbine is a grind-it-out, almost exclusive on-the-ground outfit, and Bear Creek never met a pass play or spread formation it didn't like. The common ground, of course, is that each is vastly successful and has little problem piling up the points.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

Just an update on Danny Spond. He has missed 3 games this season with a hurt throwing shoulder. I love Columbine football and as a spectator he looks really easily hurt. He got it hurt in practice then got it hurt playing defense when they were up 28-0 4 minutes in!!!! Lowry made a big mistake there. I believe he will be a decent player but nothing very special watching every game he has played in in his high school career.

It is his non-throwing shoulder. The paper got it wrong. It's a bone chip moving around between muscle and nerves. The injury happened in a practice a month or so ago but he'll be fine.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

So as a Junior, He has already received offers from CU, Duke, Stanford and Wyo. more to come.
