An open letter to Mike Bohn about Coach Crowder

Hello Mr. Bohn,

I wanted to thank you for the wonderful job that you've done for CU Athletics over the past 3 years as the AD. I graduated from CU in December of 2006 with my Masters degree and to this day bleed black and gold. In part due to your work and your work ethic, I'm a football season ticket holder even though I currently live over 6 hours away in Albuquerque, NM. I typically give away my ticket to friends that I have in the area and root for the Buffs as much as I can! (PS: thanks for BuffTV) Unfortunately, I'm only able to attend the UT game this year for homecoming and am eagerly awaiting the parade and pep rally on the hill, the Pearl St Stampede, the Buffalo walk and the new bell. Hopefully we'll have a great game as we did for OU last year!

Anyway, the reason why I'm sending you this email is that I recently read about the passing away of Coach Crowder and I'm hoping that CU creates a fitting tribute for him against WVU next Thursday on ESPN. He certainly helped bring CU to prominence in the Big 8, which was certainly not an easy task when you are going against the budgets and traditions of some of the CFB elite. I understand the game is a blackout game so I'm hoping the crowd comes out in full force. While it is fine to mourn the passing of someone so close to the program, I've found it also fitting to enjoy the legacy of a person's life and work.

There are many things that certainly can be done: decals on the helmets, a special CU black helmet (which I've read they've used before), a patch on the uniform, Coach Mac at halftime on the stadium speakers.... The possibilities are endless and with the AD behind you I'm sure you can do more than any Buff fan can envision, Oh, and just make sure to put if on BuffTV if you can't see it during the game!

Coach Hawk always talks about the Buffs tradition. That's one of the reasons why I think he was a great hire. While Buff football didn't start or end with Coach Crowder his impact on the program was nothing less than spectacular. GO BUFFS!

Thank you for all your work,

Jacob Delgado

I sent this to Mike Bohn just a short while ago. I felt all Buff fans young and old need to be told of Crowder's legacy or remember him for what he did for our program. RIP Coach

Thank you, NMBuff! I am pleased to see how someone as young as you (2006 grad) has recognized the contributions of Eddie Crowder to football and all of athletics at Colorado. Eddie was a wonderful man. I would love to see a permanent tribute to him somewhere around the facilities or on the uniforms. He deserves it. I know Coach Hawkins embraced both Eddie and Mac and welcomed the wisdom of their experience as he has taken on the leadership of our football program at Colorado.

At work one day (I work at the bookstore), I was told there was extra free food up in the ballroom. I go up there and by the time I loaded up my plate, I realized I was at a Buffalo Belles luncheon. Not about to give up my free food, I found a table with a few coworkers. I don't remember much of what the players said that were there, or who they were for that matter. The one thing I remember is that Coach Crowder was the main event. Listening to him talk about great Buff teams past and the great future that lay ahead was really inspiring. I took an immediate liking to him then and I didn't even have any idea of how deep his ties to the Buffs ran. I really hope to see his memory honored next week at the game. I can say though that there was a moment of silence at the volleyball game tonight so the athletic department is apparently thinking about it. RIP Eddie Crowder, as true a Buffalo as there ever was.

I would like to see a life size bronze of him by the buffalo across from the physics tower. Put one of Folsom on the corner of Folsom and Colorado.

Folsom already has a head statue on the south side of the stadium to the west of the ticket office.
