wvu: most overrated team ever?

It is great that we won, but i honestly thought we could have put up more points. That wvu team sucks. They must have got hit super uber hard by graduation. I was not impressed.

Most overrated ever might be a bit extreme. They lost to a very good ECU team and hopefully a solid CU team. Let's see how the season plays out before determining their place in history.

Why the **** do we have to say our opponent sucks or is overatted every time we win as an underdog? Why can't the question be, IS COLORADO MOVING UP?

In all fairness, Leash, and I understand and agree with your point, but I wasn´t all that impressed by WVU last night, either.

CU would have to be on that list the year we started the national rankings at 8 and finished 5-6.

they don't suck. this is just the wrong way to look at this game. wvu has excellent players, some that we would KILL to have on our team. they are suffering from a coaching change and it is hurting them in a big way.

they aren't overrated. they are not well-coached right now. i suspect they will right the ship to some extent and still make some noise in the big east.

why disrespect a ranked, quality opponent? we barely got out of last night with a win, for chrissakes. it isn't like CU pounded them into the grass.

sheesh!

I have a friend that went to WVU and we both agreed that they lost ALOT of their lineman..... and in footballl that is what will ultimately win you games.

CU has some guys up front ( D & O) that are good.... WVU lost alot....

didnt we learn that from the Neuheisel era?

Going to have to rep that comment.

Both teams had opportunities to win (if WVU had hit their wide-open man on their lateral pass trick play...). We did well, but could have done better. The same can easily be said for them.

Let's see what their record is at the end of year and what they are ranked to say they are overrated. While winning the Big East could be hard for them, they could still win it. Michigan lost last year to Appy St, dropped out of the polls, but then ended up in the Top 25 to end the season.

See, Liver, this is kinda my point ... and I am not just raising the point because of last night´s game, but I have raised this point quite a few times before. Do you think the WVU team you saw last night was worthy of being ranked 21st in the nation?

IMO, WVU were ranked #21 and started the season in the top ten because of past achievements (like a blow out win v OU in the Fiesta Bowl). I have an issue with pre-season and early season rankings and don´t think any polls should be published like 6 games into the season. West Virginia, so far, hasn´t shown me anything that warrants a top 25 ranking.

So what if they were overrated? Does that diminish our win? Isn't every team in the rankings who loses "overrated"? Since the rankings are opinion polls, essentially, there are going to be lots of teams who garner rankings early in the season who don't deserve it by the end.

Umm, their O-line was supposed to be one of the best in the nation this year. They returned all 5 of their starters from last year. We did a good job against a good one demensional team.

ditto.... I know they lost slanton and that big ass mohawk wearing fullback from the offense, who else on the o-side???... I dont know about on the defensive side of the ball at all...... but the 90 minutes of football I have watched them play so far this year (ECU and 1st half last night) they are a mere shell of the teams that were on the field the past several years under RR.....

I seriously doubt they will win the Big East this year, and more than likely will finish 5th or 6th in the conference with 4th being and outside chance if Pitt totally implodes on wanstandt.....

Definitely. I really don't think there is any doubt. Whoever voted them #21 should be shot.

ND is year in and year out the most overrated team. Ohio State is giving them a run for this title.

WVU is definitely over-rated based on what most everyone expected of them this year. They only returned 4 starters on defense and of course also lost Slaton, not to mention the coaching change. I see them losing at least 2 or 3 more - Auburn, USF, and/or someone else.

Most overrated is extreme, however, I think that we should have won by quite a few more the way our offense was moving at certain points during the game. I also think we should have had a 2nd consecutive game with a pick 6 by one player (Chapelle)

i think you can add cincy, pitt, conn, and louisville to the list to with USF as far as conference play goes as possible losses, not saying they will, but these 5 teams are capable of winning the game against them...

Syracuse is the only "sure" W for conference play, and maybe rutgers too....

I don't think so but a little but. Somethings to consider;

  • Returned 1 starter on defense
  • New head coach
  • Some new staff
  • Preseason Polls are stupid. They recycle last years winners.

I think the big one is the loss of starters on defense. The other one is a new offensive coordinator in Jeff Mullen who brings a different scheme. A different scheme in so much that he's not Rich Rodriguez nor does he think like him.

If RR was still there this game might have had a far different outcome.

Also I am hardpressed to rate a game won in OT by 3 points as overrated. Unless most of you expected us to lose. :saythat:

They're not overrated, in fact they might just be the most talented team we will face all year, they're juts poorly coached. They sure wouldn't have lost this game with Rich Rodriguez and might not have lost against ECU with Rodriguez.

Umm, their O-line was supposed to be one of the best in the nation this year. They returned all 5 of their starters from last year. We did a good job against a good one dimensional team.

Yes, they are 'one dimensional', but then again, they have been that way for a few years now and hammered the dog crap out of OU last year being 'one dimensional'.

The reson they have lost these games is because the new HC tried to make them two dimensional, and made them worse. CU can be happy that he did not just stick with what they were great at since day one, but was only trying to get back to that this week, and they were still a bit rusty.

Before making final judgements on teams, let's see how the season falls out. We could say how great CU is a 3-0, but that can change quick.

I do have to be happy that we have that much better chance for a bowl game now with wins in the first three games.

their stats looked rather one dimensional to me. it did not look as if they ever truly tried to establish the pass all game.
