Hawk says D Scott is "OK" for KU game.

I would dearly love to see a breakout game from D Scott. This is as good a time as any. The line has to help him out a little, though.

I get the feeling they're being overly careful with Scott this year.

"OK" can mean a lot of things.

I guess I just don't understand what they are doing with him. Either he's got nagging injuries, which is limiting his play time, or he doesn't know the playbook, which is limiting his play time. If he's hurt, I would prefer they just hold him out until he's really 100% ready to roll. If it's the playbook, then I support what they are doing. Get him out there a few plays of the game for the stuff he knows so he can get a feel for the speed and power of the college game until he's ready to go full time. But, if this was the case, wouldn't you expect him to be getting more and more touches as the season goes on and he's learning the playbook/blocking/etc more?

I hate to be the one to bring this up but who else thinks these nagging injuries and other issues are attributable to Scott showing up later than most and purportedly WAY out of shape?

Uh....A helmet to the knee (DS' knee bruise) has nothing to do with being out of shape

your right for something like that but its easier to rehab when you are in shape and not having to focus on fitness and recovery, also the pace he is picking up knocks and injuries is pretty high for a 19 year old.

DS was out of shape in July. Its not July anymore. did he look out of shape leaping over that guy against EWU? A bruised knee (which he played through) and a sprained ankle aren't indications that he's fragile. He'll be fine. We need to relax. What's going to happen this year is going to happen. But things are going in the right direction, in the right way. Relax.

I don't think he is out of shape. A hurt knee against EWU and was just starting to feel better against TX. Hurt ankle on a nice catch and he is back to the beginning.

If anything I think the little injuries are hurting him learning the offense during practice, and that has made him a step slow during games.

Scott will be fine. Our O Line is a wreck right now, and anyone that thought DS would come to Boulder as a true frosh and run for 1,000 yard needs to put down the pipe, or pass it.

1,000 yds no,16 td's no, but I sure as hell thought he'd be getting more than 4 carries. I didn't think his rushing yds would go down each and every game either.

Our OL is the problem and will continue to be...

Guys, don't be silly. Stop scratching your heads at why DScott hasn't carried the ball 20+ times.

He came in 15 overweight, and ... OH YEAH! There's this other freshman running back who's kicking ass.

I'm all for DScott taking Sumler's carries, but Rodney is doing just fine for now.

He's not overweight NOW,what excuse will we hear next?

all this angst...

he's 5 games into his career. it will come.

by the way, that was a freaking nice catch he made v. ut--- he is a running back, afterall, and not a wr.

he's shown flashes. everyone wants him to get 15 touches or whatever but that won't happen until he is ready. speedy has done a good job-- give the guy credit.

i think we are going to see a lot more of ds as the year goes on.

DS keeps giving little glimmers of how dynamic he can be. Against ut he had the two catches, one a big one, and a very good looking 6 yard run. Then, phhhhttttttt, he was out. Very frustrating.

I will say this. Once he is getting 15-20 carries behind a line that gives him even a sliver of a hole...he's going to dominate. He's had some of the sickest 3-yard runs I've ever seen this year. He runs hard, he's quick, he's strong, he's shifty. He'll be a beast. It'd be great if he can start to approach that number this year, but if for whatever reason he can't, I'm excited to see him come out strong next year.

I was working security at a fraternity party the first week in May when DScott came out to visit his uncle and he was genuinely FAT. Not just a tad outta shape - but FAT. I was shocked to say the least.

i've heard similar things. but, even July is 3 months ago. i wonder.

i also a lot us got into thinking he'd be an instant Adrian Peterson type...which has hasn't panned out. But, he can still be a helluva back for us. Peterson is the exception.

He is no longer out of shape. Even the Hawk would say something if he was. A RB the size of DS is only going to be as good as his OL and the holes they open (unless he can get to the outside). Even a mediocre OL can open mediocre holes and let the back do the rest of the work. That's not happening yet. Rodney is having more success beacuse he is small and can hide behind the OL as they are getting blown up and find gaps. As we find more consistency up front, I think we will see a more consistent DS.
