Any indication from coaching staff as to who will start next week?

I would assume it would be Hansen but I haven't heard anything to confirm that assumption...

I doubt it to be honest. Cody knows the playbook more and will give them time to see what Mizzou is doing then bring in Hansen after a couple possesions.

Cody will start but Hansen will likely get significant playing time.

Cody will get the first drive. Hansen the 2nd. The rest will be situation dependent but I expect it to be a 60/40 Hansen/Hawkins split.

I don't understand the sentiment I've seen expressed that playing Tyler against Missouri qualifies as "throwing him to the wolves." Just because Missouri has a great offense doesn't mean that their defense is particularly intimidating.

I think he needs to be the man now, personally, he didn't put up great numbers but he did enough to win the game - although, obviously, the defense deserves the overwhelming majority of the credit for that.

Ultimately, I don't mind the rotation stuff while Tyler is figuring out the offense but I think we need to progress towards him being the starter, for the purpose of next year.

Next year is a year when CU has a LOT of talent coming in that isn't currently contributing: barring any more academic/injury/whatever shenanigans. Katoa, Major, Miller, healthy Scott, Tau (maybe), Simas (maybe), MTM, Iltis ...

Potentially we could be a much better team. The point is, it would be unfortunate for the potential of that team to be hampered by having an inexperienced QB. Tyler can learn a lot this year, and while the year is by no means a wash, we aren't doing anything major either.

:yeahthat:

Abso-freaking-lutely. The redshirt is off. Put him in. Keep him in. Get him his reps now and get him prepared to see tough crowds on the road. He'll have a lot more tools next year - you forgot Polk, BTW - and he'll learn the speed of the game this year.

Hansen needs to (and will) be on the field while their first stringers are in and the crowd is really into it; hopefully we keep it close OR take the crowd out ourselves, but they're going to try and make a statement to get to a BCS bowl and that starts against us. While CU hasn't historically played well at Mizzou, there is no way they have a bigger home-field advantage than aTm. The Aggies absolutely drink the kool-aid and will be at their absolute loudest for our game. It'll be the last home game they have a shot at winning (they have OU after us and are @Baylor) so I'd expect the 12th man to be out in full force.

Hansen needs to get in early, but I don't see him for the first series.

Remember this when Hansen is getting rocked next Saturday. If you want Hansen and only Hansen, you are playing for next year. That may be the right thing to do, but realize what you are doing.

Personally, I think we need to win games this year AND get Hansen as much experience as possible. This means continuing the QB shuffle for the next few games. Hansen better be getting reps at practice though...

Umm, I do want CH to start the game. He has the experience on the road. I just want Hansen to get some reps on the road too. It's just that Mizzou is not the hardest place to play. Kyle Field and Lincoln are tougher places to play and have a crazier/louder fanbase. If we are to have him in those games he needs reps in the Mizzou game. He needs the experience, in whatever capacity, to help the team when he plays in those games which are definitely winnable.

While Mizzou's D is familiar with playing against the spread, by which Hansen will most likely play, they aren't world beaters either. He just really needs to learn to not lower his shoulders and fight for those yards, unless it is for a first down. I'll give him a lot of credit though, but if he's going to lead the team in a QB role then he needs to learn that sooner than later.

I saw aTm in person and I'm pretty confident that a mobile QB will eat their lunch. Doesn't Army run the option? And they almost beat the Aggies at Kyle field. Kinda funny since the Aggies used to run the option, but that's just how bad they are this year.

My only worry about Hansen is how much more of the playbook he'll be able to use this week. He was super effective against KSU, but KSU has a ****ty D, especially against the run, and they weren't expecting to see him play. If we send Hansen out for most of the game running the same 10 plays he ran last night, he's going to get eaten alive.

The second factor is going to come down to the Oline. If the Oline can play well and establish some holes, then it may make more sense to put Cody back in. IMO, Cody is pretty effective when he has a run game to work the play action off of. [Random rant...why the **** does our OC still insist on play action when we are down 20 and it's 3rd and 16???] If the line is a big crew of matadors, then Hansen at least gives us some extra wrinkles for them to think about before heading straight for the ball carrier.

I think who plays and when is going to be very much situationally based. The coaches can go in with some things they want to try in the gameplan, but I think they'll have to see how the Oline does, how close the D can keep the score, and how the Mizzou Dline is playing before they can say for sure who should be in at QB.

We run more play action on third and longs than any team in history.

If Hansen is going to see substantial playing time against Mizzou, we need to be designing rollouts and other ways to get him comfortable in the passing game. We have done some of this all year with Cody, but Hansen's mobility should help make these plays more effective.

I agree, we need to open up passing opportunities off of the threat of the run.

We should just use the A11 for the time being. Doesn't that formation use 2 QBs?

And if Hansen's play is limited to 10 or so plays like it was against KSU then he's going to get mauled. He's going to have to throw it downfield to make them respect it before he starts running effectively. I don't think the zone-read will work on Mizzou.

Hawk said after the game that he would probably be playing both and just go with what works.

Like some are saying,I think cody starts and you'll see more of the same with hansen getting significant playing time.

ditto

I think this is exactly what will happen. They didn't pull his redshirt to put him back on the bench after KjSU.

Hansen and Cody will probably split the reps with the 1s in practice (or Hansen might get more just to get him up to speed faster), IMO.

I came here to say this.

Cody's basically the offensive captain of this team, but I expect we'll see Hansen after our first 1st down.

I think we will see more of Hansen as the year goes on; which of course, means that we will see him almost exclusively toward the end of the year as he will have more of the playbook down and more reps in practice. The more plays he has as options, the more effictive he will be.
