"I did a terrible job of preparing them to play and executing, you got to look at the man in the mirror"

Well, at least he's taking the sword for the team and being a stand up guy and taking responsibility.

Sounds pissed, maybe this will light a fire under our coaches and players backsides.

Hawk is a stand up guy, so I'm not surprised he would say this..

Today's loss was expected, but not in this fashion. I'm glad he's taking the heat (oh and he WILL) and accepts responsibility.

He throws these guys under the bus and we don't have a chance at any game the rest of the year.

I am very glad to hear this news. Although it is to be expected. On the bright side we are 4 - 4. Regardless of how we got the 4 wins, we have them, it feels like we are about 1 and 7 at this point but we are only 2 wins from a bowl which in my mind would be very acceptable at this point.

Makes no difference to me...who cares what he tells the press.....it is what the players feel....and tonight, there was ZERO emotion and intensity. I never liked Barney, but at least his players (sometimes) showed emotion.

The key will be how the players respond next week. We have an early game against a struggling program. If we lose, I will be looking to next year.....

He needs to have some balls and fire the coaches that really suck. Just like he showed me some balls by pulling Hansen's RS, he needs to fire Riddle and Helfruck. That might be a start.

You're dang right its his FAULT!!

Barney's players laid down in big games after 2001, talk about not having emotion, look at any of our Big 12 champ game beatdowns we received, I'd take Hawk over Barney any day of the week

Edit: Obviously the players have heart and didn't "lay down and give up" but we really lacked emotion in those games, and had a defeatist attitude going in it seemed

Hawk lacks intensity. That's a good one.

Sure he deserves criticism for tonight. But saying he lacks the fire? Anyone who's watched him coach, even in practice, knows that claim is absurd. I love how we are judging a coach by how he looks in a couple of shots on TV. Comedy.

Well...how do you explain the lack of intensity with his players? Not that funny, if you ask me.....

You should ask Ryan Walters. That kids been playing hurt since spring ball. I'm sure he lacks intensity.
Go back and replay the first defensive series...and look closely at the Buffs. They were defeated when the score was 0-0. Every guy on the field was beaten. Not much intensity, if you ask me. Swell..they are playing when they are hurt.....

I will never question the effort that these kids are giving. Especially anonymously over a internet board.
Don't get defensive...I realize we are talking about kids. I am simply telling you that relative to other football programs, we appear to be lacking some intensity and emotion. I hope that Hawk can turn it around.

I'm certainly not questioning the kids. They are awesome and truly want to win. In fact, I feel sorry for them. These coaches are taking them nowhere.

The coaches have no gameplan. It seems like they are making plays by proxy, and have no idea how to play a college game. I'm not even sure this team couldve beat Mullen let alone Mizzou. I'm not convinced hawkshiiet is the answer. At least not for a team that wants to win. I' think just about all the coaches in the Big XII with the exception of Goonberg, and the Prince are better coaches than DH.

No more off season trips to Maccu Piccu.

I can't believe I watched the whole game.

I'm not getting defensive. At least I don't think I was. Sorry if it came off that way.

Pay me $1.25 mil and I'd say it better with a tutu on.

Have him give up some of that pay (say $1.25 mil/12 games = $104,1667) and let's see how much responsibility he takes on next time. Time for results.

Admitting you didn't do your job gets no points from me.

Do your job. Get them prepared next week. Fire somebody to show you're serious about what you are saying. May I suggest Helfrich or Riddle.

I agree. I just get fired up over these things.

You are correct though, the players came off very flat. Hawkins deserves to be questioned about that.

The 14 pts they put up on us quickly took the guys out of the game. Mizzou wanted to show they were legit and unfortunately they had to after getting beatdown by OSU and UT.

For KSU the team was out in full force. That's what I like to see.

The aTm game will show us where we stand. They are going to play us in what is their last winnable home game (they have OU after us) and then are @Baylor and @UT to end the season. We have to come out in full force. aTm's defense is terrible, a lot worse than Mizzou's. They only beat New Mexico because NM turned the ball over 4 (or 5) times. While we haven't played well, we have to get rid of our jitters. It is doable and if we come out flat then I'll be disappointed. Too bad it won't be on TV though :(

Firing Hawk would be a giant mistake... He's great and the players love him. Personnel around him is another story and I think it unanimous that Helf**k needs to go.

Or at least try out someone else calling the plays other than Ask Corso Helfrich

Hawk is definitely a great players' coach and recruiter, but his game-day coaching is really questionable.

I would absolutely be opposed to the firing of Hawk but the OC and ST coaches need to go sooner than later - they aren't doing their jobs well.

Can we really judge Hawkins, or Helfrich based on the current state(youth) of our squad? I know most of you say it's an excuse, but I don't think it's fair or accurate to judge his coaching based on this years squad. I think the next 2 years will be crucial for Hawk. He should have some of his guys becoming the leaders of this team. No disrespect to big George or Walters, but those aren't Hawkins guys.

^^

Injuries and youth are certainly an issue, but I do have a bit of an issue with the offensive scheme being diametrically opposed to the strengths of the team. CU should be a run oriented team IMO when you consider the skills of DS, RS, and TH.

I can't argue with that. The more I look at it the more i wish we were still running last years offense.

Hawk and the coaches need to take a lot of the blame....this CU team comes out of the gate more unprepared than any other football team I've ever watched....take yesterday for example: give up a TD in under a minute, fumble first snap, fumble punt and there you got it's already 14-0 and team is deflated and done
