If Texas wins the national title this year

Texas may not need to win the national championship this year for Mack to make that claim. Mack has won 3 out of the last 4 against Stoops.

I'd say Mack has better defensive assistants 3 or the last 4. He is 4-6 overall against Stoops. Maybe Stoops has been to loyal to Venables???

Mack Brown is so overrated!

(I'm thinking that argument would officially have no validity)

Debatable. Both look outstanding every February, but Mack's one Big 12 title in 10 seasons is a huge disappointment. That's the biggest thing that needs to change before he's in the discussion as the best coach in the conference.

Stoops consistently has his team in the top 5, BCS losses or not. While Brown's teams have always been consistently good, they're still not consistently great as OU is. Both great coaches, obviously, and Brown would have a National Ship over Stoops... While OU lost to CU last year on the road, UT lost to K-State at home last year and the year before... So Mack Brown has bad losses too.

Also, Stoops is only 48 (relatively young-definitely has years left) and I think when it's said and done there won't even be an argument that Stoops is the better coach.

Does the school make the coach, or does the coach make the school?

If Stoops were to show up in Austin and had access to all of the resources and treasure that UT has to offer, wouldn't he do as well or better than Brown? It's hard to imagine him doing worse. If Mike Leach was in Austin, he might have done as well as Brown.

On the contrary, if Mack were to end up in Norman or Lubbock, would those programs be any better off?

Mike Stoops might be back in norman soon enough to make this a moot point, especially if Muschamp gets the Tennessee job (bullsh*t disclaimer: I have no information to back up my irresponsible guesses).

Just a few years ago it was big fun to point to their empty trophy case coupled with all those recruiting mNCs. Times have changed. He's proven he knows who to hire AND who to recruit.

Fans of 11 schools in the Big 12 list Arizona as their second favorite team, because the better Mike Stoops does there means the less the chance of him getting canned and resurfacing with his brother in Norman.

I don't know much about Arizona football, but I saw them play USC last night. While their offense couldn't do much (USC D is damn good), they held USC to 17 points. That is ridiculous given the talent differential between the 2 teams.

For a coach to guide his team to beating a #1, #11, #6, and potentially #6 four weeks straight without a break could be the one of the greatest accomplishments I have seen in college football. That is a horrific stretch and the reason why NFL teams do not go undefeated. Kudos to Brown if he pulls this off.

You could put a ****ing retarded monkey with a headset on the sideline of Texas and they would still recruit well and get great talent. Stoops anyday...anyday.

If I remember right, the '00 Sooners went through a tough guantlet pretty similar to what Texas is right now.

You're right. That explains the outstanding teams Texas had the prior two decades before Mack Brown's arrival, right?

No kidding. I think people are forgetting that the original knock on Brown is that he was a recruiting genius and average coach. I was on that boat until this year. He has done a masterful job.

Stoops : 100-23 (0.820); 1 National Championship - 5 Division
Brown : 189–99–1 (0.65); 1 National Championship - 1 Divison

I'll take Stoops. Mack is a great coach I just think Stoops edges him out.

How has stoops done in the last game of the year the last 10 years vs Mack Brown? It is all about finishing!

Mack Brown was pretty damn good at North Carolina before he left for UT.

Exactly. I think people tend to ignore the fact that Brown had three 10-win seasons at UNC. Pretty big accomplishment, no doubt about it.

Great point...UT was lame for many years, as was OU. Both coaches turned around their programs, unfortunately (for CU, that is)

cough cough 1 conference championship, only 2 appearances..... I'd say he mack isnt finishing the year very good.....

bowl games dont mean doodly squat unless its for the glass.... you can have all the alamo and holiday bowl victories you want. in addition you have never heard Bob cry about how unfair the BCS is like Mack did from 2001-2004 until his whining got Texas a Rose Bowl invite in 2004.....

I bet if you had won your last several BCS games you would not be saying bowl games don't matter...it's all relative I guess.
