Really hard to answer this question. I would love to see what the coaching staff can do with experienced healthy players. But it is hard to say they are improved despite the injuries and youth when it looks like we are regressing each game.

So I'm going to go with the frogs. :smile2:

I guess I'm willing to give DH five seasons because we really don't have a choice. I know he is not going to get fired after next season, so I am going to support the guy in trying to get this thing turned around. Next year is going to be interesting.

I am frustrated and unhappy with the way this season has gone and while I do think DH has made some mistakes along the way, I'm generally pretty happy with him and I think some of the main reason why this season has been a little frustrating are out of his control. Having said that, I do expect Bowl eligibility to be secured fairly convincingly next season and I don't want to be sweating about it during the final weeks of the season.

Being consistent and committed to someone proves to be the winner (with the exception of schools like USC where everything is already there) these days. I don't care how much CU struggles the next couple years, took Mac a while. Give the guy time, if he can't produce results in 3-5 years, then there is a real problem. Ask Clemson, Tommy couldn't produce after 9 years... I just don't think they were ever going to take the next step, it'd been proven.

By the time Darrell Scott is a junior the Buffs will be one of the top 4 teams in the Big 12.

I'm a 4 season guy. If dan hawkins can't have this team getting a " WINNING SEASON" by year 4 then I question the ability for him to get it done here.

I'm not asking for a north title in year 4

I'm not asking for a big 12 championship in year 4

I'm not asking for a NC in year 4

I'm asking for a winning season, that's 7-5.

No excuses,no zen,no BS.

7 wins in year 4, if that's asking too much, this program has hit rock bottom.

I think it took McCartney 8 years to build the recruiting and staff/

if you were in any doubt that the buffs were at rock bottom a few years ago, with absolutely NOTHING in the cupboards, then maybe you need to reflect. i'll bet you woulda kicked coach mac to the curb, if you were old enough.

I voted for improved. That's a no-brainer when you look at what Hawk had to work with season one. I don't think you can say it takes "x" number of years to turn a program around. That number should be longer at CU than Notre Dame, but shorter than at Duke. It all depends on what you have to work with. I don't know that this had to be a five year project, but as I said in another thread, I think the fact that it took 2 1/2 years to find a QB that really fits this offense is going to lengthen the time it takes.

I also voted for frogs. Their legs are yummy (or so I've heard...)

Mac is a great person, met him and back then in 82-85 I was in high school.

I know people like to use comparisons but hawk has an uphill battle. Mac didn't have to deal with okie state, tech, mizzou, kansas, tech and even texas being this good.

Times have changed and those recruits from texas, michigan and louisiana are far and few between now.

I also understand how bad the situation was at the end of 2005, I get it. But for anyone to tell me we can't or shouldn't have a winning season in year 4 is mind boggling. I mean think about that, this wouldn't fly anywhere else, nowhere.

You bring in a new coach and staff and you're telling me that it's crazy to ask or think they should have a winning season in year 4?

I know I harbor the point and such but it just really burns me because it's not asking much or in better terms expecting a winning season when this staff has been here 4 years.

Our schedule for 2009 is as follows:

COLORADO STATE BOULDER TBA
Miami, Ohio at Oxford, Ohio TBA
WYOMING BOULDER TBA
West Virginia at Morgantown, W.Va. TBA
*Texas at Austin, Texas TBA
*KANSAS BOULDER TBA
*Kansas State at Manhattan, Kan. TBA
*MISSOURI BOULDER TBA
*TEXAS A&M BOULDER TBA
*Iowa State at Ames, Iowa TBA
*Oklahoma State at Stillwater, Okla. TBA
*NEBRASKA BOULDER TBA

We should get at least 7 wins. No excuses for injuries or anything else next season. I'm in agreement with syko on this one. If we had this year's schedule next year I'd give Hawkins a pass with 6 wins. The schedule sets up nicely for a good run.

i am with you in that we should have a winning season in year four.

in the meantime, i choose not to stir the pot with negativity. i wait. i do not encourage trolls. i take perspective, reminding myself that this is year three, and not year four, and an epic meltdown is not necessary nor will it change anything.

and i will be damned if i am going to act like another fanbase that will go unnamed.

I like DH, but I'm highly skeptical about his coordinators. There are plenty of positives looking forward. However, the thing that most concerns me is the D. Losing Goldfish, Nic, Walters...the D should be pretty awful next year. The O, should be damn good. So without a complete team, this team will continue to be up and down, up. Rinse repeat.

I like frogs too.

Now is not the time to bail. DH basically lost his entire starting offensive line this year for one reason or another. He is starting a true freshman at running back and quarterback and plays in a conference with 6 teams in the top-20. Look at that objectively. Our odds were not that great this year. The challenge will be to try to continue to improve through the rest of the year and head into next year with a seasoned team of sophmores! I think we will all forget this year when these same Buffs are challenging for the conference title in two years.

I know people like to use comparisons but hawk has an uphill battle. Mac didn't have to deal with okie state, tech, mizzou, kansas, tech and even texas being this good.

Nebraska was a lot better then, though. Oklahoma won the NC in 1984 (85?). Mac had to deal with some powerhouses of his own. Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Washington - all were far better than they are now. There can only be 25 teams ranked, those teams aren't always the same teams.

Are we talking one season from now, or one season from when he started?

I'm giving him until his 5th season, then I'm out.

I'll give Hawk 4 years because I don't think year 1 counts, he had very little to work with. He did a great job recruiting to start this season. If he can do the same thing this year he might be okay.

One thing that is really starting to bother me is he is moving the program in the same direction ASU went when they hired a Boise coach. Looked like they were going to be good, won a few nice games, but come year 4 they were still average at best. I will not be happy with 6-7 wins a season.

It bothers me that we still can't compete at all on the road, and we never seem to crush teams that we should at home.
