What Rivalry?

I found a discussion on, well let's just say another board about rival games.

It is interesting the B12 really does not take advantage of it's maximum potential for rivalry games.

The NU - CU game is not really a rival game as seen in other conferences (yet any way).

I posted the following, and it seems to make sense to me. (no flaming just discussing):

"Yes, NU really has no real rival with the North-South division split as it is now.

I say, (I know it will not happen) if the decision to reformulate the make of the B12 divisions was made, I would make East-West divisions or for that matter call them what ever you want. A great split would be:

East: NU, Texas a&m, MU, Kansas St, TT and CU
West: OU, Texas, Kansas, ISU, OSU and Baylor

This keeps some of the basic rivals as set up when the B12 was formed:

Such as OU - Texas and CU - NU (if you call it a rival game).

Also each team would have an annual cross division game to be played every year. NU - OU, Texas a&m - Texas, MU - Kansas, Kansas St - ISU, OSU - TT and CU - Baylor. The rest of the teams would play each other with a rotating schedule much like it is now.

This set up seems to have more overall balance based upon historical team records and preformance thru the years."

Any comments?

for a surveyor you may be directionally challenged...

Sounds eerily similar to an ESPN blog topic (if I remember right)... can't find the link, but they had the same type proposal (i.e. reshuffle and having a "rivalry" game each year - their match-ups were identical to yours).

No passion on this one for me. I'd like to see some conferences mixed up, adding/removing teams, and not strictly reshuffling.

Directionally Challenged? No, you can call the divisons East and West, Black and Blue or what ever you want. I think I mentioned something like that in my post didn't I?

Chandlerbuff:

Your trying to start a fire. Yes it is true NU has worse then a bad record against ranked teams the last 6-8 years, that's not the point!

The OU-NU fans respect each other and many would like to play that game each year.

There are other great games that need to be played every year in the B12 Conference too.

last year when NU was getting killed by everyone.... on most boards nu fans would say "i still hope we beat CU" all trolls on cu blogs are NU fans, but for some reason NEBRASKA fans like to say "the cu-nu game isnt a rival game" bs! its the only rival game in the north thats worth a s**t... in a few years when our teams are back to par it will pick up again... not trying to "start a fire" but the big 8 is over with... KU an MU will fade and it will be CU NU fighting for the north and the big12....

yeah OU fans respect you NOW cuz they kicked your *** the last 10 year, and NU respects OU cuz they wished they were OU. . .

I think these divisions would be better.

Division A: UT, TAMU, KU, KSU, TT, CU
Division B: OU, NU, MU, ISU, OSU, BU

Annual Cross-division Rivals: UT-OU, NU-CU, KU-MU, KSU-ISU, TT-OSU, TAMU-BU

I think it's a rivalry and I've said that millions of times before. I think CU is our rival in the North and have for years. What do you need to constitute a rivalry?

1. The game has to mean something big. (NU-CU will be fighting for the North in the near future as both teams will get better) *check*
2. Pure and utter hatred for one another *double check*
3. Chance to spoil the other teams chances for a bowl bid or Championship shot. *check*
4. I know this means the same as #2, but absolutely no respect for one another. *check*
5. The game could swing either way no matter how bad each team is or how good each team is. *check*

Yep, looks like a rivalry to me...................I HATE ALL OF YOU! :smile2:

I'm not in favor of a conference setup where every team doesn't play every other team in the regular season.

As far the current Big 12 setup is concerned, I think it's fine as is. If you want to see a screwy setup with absolutely no concern for geographic locations, look at the ACC divisions. The Coastal and Atlantic? :wtf:

I would be in favor of the western-most schools in the Big 12 be in the Eastern Division and the eastern-most schools in the Western Division

Flip CU for Baylor and KU and K-State for the Oklahoma schools and you have the current alignment. I guess I'm missing the advantage of this alignment over that one...

Although, it is 1000 times better the insanity posted by BuffSurveyor...

While were throwin ideas around- I like to reference to my Playstation scenerios. So check this out.

I played as Boise St and went 2 years undefeated, so the game decided to invite me to the Big 12 conference!! So this sparked a great idea

North- CU, NU, Mizzou, Kansas, Baylor, Boise St
South- OU, Tex, A&M, Ok. St, Tech, TCU

So i say buh bye Iowa St and K. St... It adds flava and solid programs to the mix.

Possible? Probably not but I think would help the Big 12 pass the SEC as top conference

I believe it already has. At least this year.
