Calling For Heads of coaches?

>. < It's tough to know where to start, but seeing as the frustration sparks animosity, i think it's time to just say things. There have been a select few Outspoken optimists among the threads. here and on 'other' sites. But Overall i have found myself caught up in conversations about Getting rid of Helf. or Getting rid of Hawkins. So.. Ok. Just take a think on this.
Helfrich HAS time in my opinion. I know a lot of us. NONE more than me want to see this team in an 'I' or something like it. But after thinking about it.i just can't imagine Him trying to get our team together to reform the offense under a new system. Obviously what were doing does NOT work. However at the beginning of the year, (spring game) im pretty sure I noted he was building off of last years semi, actually decently succesfull offense. Now. Due to injuries, that scheme has fallen flat on it's face. and YES i think injuries were the key. Look at the Broncos. Steaming with talent, as ANY pro team. BUt their offense was extrodinary until a recent onslot of injuries. And none as significant as ours. Helfrich was scrambling to re build the system he had put in place. but it failed. And with the rise of Stewart , we see the possibility for this team to have a foundation in the run game. A direction i'm sure he did not expect. Now this team is young. (No excuse totally for performance) but it is an excuse for the reason we can't re organize our offense in the middle of the season. I know we have 'plays' out of power formation but I can't see the players being able to adapt to the power being the solidity of our offense. We just didn't have time to practice it!. .
ok. and think of this. SHawn Watson. We hated him. Thought he was Horrible. We called for his head, And we got it. He is very succesful for the red heads next door. Did he change? or was he just plugged into a system that had confidence in him. Colorado Has become an environment where i cant imagine a coach with any sort or inconfidence coming in and having success. .
I think our OC deserves to ride out at LEAST two offensive seasons where he's got what he NEEDS. Not even wants. But needs . I think D Scott has the right attitude. . I think he may end up being a blessing in leadership. the last to things i've heard him say, "that we just need to win out and regroup" (paraphrased roughly) and that the buffalo nation needs to cut them some slack. he's RIGHT. Some how we need to relax and try to enjoy this in any way we can. There isn't room really for another team, like US, to rise in the big 12 quite yet. Just like Tennessee won't rise for a while in the east. However. When Reesing Graduates. or missouri peaks and comes back down. that's when We. AND nebraska will return to the top.
And honestly.. I hate nebraska. BUT i want them to be #1 every time we spoil their season.
Ne ways. Leave thoughts. It's wordy. But oh well. I'm just tired of people throwing up their hands and calling it quits.

A lot of the frustration comes from just how far away, right now, CU is from being a good team. It's not just that we're losing and we're having an off-year: the team looks like it is light years away from where it needs to be. Just my opinion.

We should be quite a bit better next year. Still not even close to where we need to be if we want to be competitive in the B12, but a step closer. Hopefully.

Kjuco fires their coach after 3 yrs and a better winning record. Does KJuco have higher expectations than CU?

My, my, how low we have become. This f-in sucks. I think DH has one more year. I hope he's taking notice.

You lost me at "Shawn Watson being very successful at the red heads next door." If you went to any of their sites, a number of posters are calling for his head either outright or to throw the WCO out of Lincoln and Watson with it.

There's a reason why Shortbus Watson isn't a HC somewhere. With all the openings out there this year, I'd bet he's not on anybodies short list.

Now granted, I think Watson is significantly better as an OC then Helfrich but that doesn't mean I'd want him back here.

The bad thing about Helfrich is that as soon as he learns to be an effectice OC here (I have my doubts), he's gone.

Helfrich is one of those asst. coaches that Hawk mentioned as being offered a job but I heard he really didn't have one, only used that excuse to get more money.

Pretty much tells me everything right there as to his commitment.

My thoughts exactly and I'm still a huge Hawk supporter.

Oh believe me, I dont want DH gone and have the program start over again. I WANT him to succeed and turn it around. I wish him nothing but the best. I think he's a cool guy, but his coaching ability is questionable.

BUT, if he cant get it done, nothing personal, he needs to step aside for someone who can.

Give him another year...it's not always the coaching that plays out on the field...sometimes things like injuries and kicking can have an effect. Another year to show some strides, after that, its reality time.

I agree, but I think he would help himself and the team by replacing his OC and ST coaches. Many other succesful programs do it, nature of the game.

His current recruiting has me worried though.

What if Hawk gambles and takes a REALLY small recruiting class? We are very young. Is that exceedingly stupid?

Anyone calling for Hawk's head if he doesn't deliver next year is a complete moron. What a bunch of chicken littles. Make me embarrassed to be a Buff right now. Hawk is the guy! He will right this ship! Look what Mangino has done in Kansas, Leach down at Tech. Hell two years ago MU fans wanted Pinkey's brain on a platter. What do they all have in common? Oh yeah they have all been at their respective locales for longer than 5 seasons.

Anybody calling for Hawk's head name me one other HC in the country that we could afford to pay that would come in here and do a better job than what DH has. There are probably a handful that could come in and win right away for a year or two, but I doubt they could sustain anything long term and most would likely jump ship to a bigger school as soon another position opened up.

Morons. Have an ounce of patience. Hell go ahead and jump off, the bandwagon will swing around and pick you up next year. Its sport. Its life. Full of ups and downs. The downs make the ups that much sweeter.

Hawk is right, the internet is an abyss of negativity.

BTW, nice post old man.

I embraced the Hawkins hire..and still support him. But I have had a nagging concern that I am finally going to voice.

Is Dan a good tactician in X's and O's....or is he a mouthpiece only, and any success he has had has been due to the AC's? I guess I am asking if we got the public relations home run, or the coaching home run?

Does it seem to anyone else that other head coaches are really involved in the games..Pelini screaming, Gundy scheming...and Dan seems to sometimes be remote and detached from the action?

I would like to see him light up an offical for a bad call..or throw something when an easy FG is missed, or TD pass dropped. If that's not his personality, you can't force it..but dang, I would like to see some emotion on the sidelilnes.

I guess one of the new ones you mean is me.......I am a long time Colorado fan..lived in Denver many years..now living in Utah for job reasons. I have been a lurker here and at netbuffs.......finally decided to contribute a bit to the board.

There are as many styles as there are coaches, I guess. I just note that Peterson at Boise is very involved during the game and it is evident that he is..most other coaches as well..Dan operates more like a CEO who oversees the operation, but doesn't get involved in the details. Maybe that's his style, or maybe it's only an illusion.

Welcome.

Now get me a beer. And don't miss the tailgate. You need to bring the donuts.

I'm not calling for Hawk's head... but there NEEDS to be some changes under him. And I would support it being more "CU" guys.

How about just hiring the correct guys? I get nervous when people start talking about how we have to go out and hire 20 former players to be assistant coaches.

I want some consistantency beginning with next years spring practice. Since Hawk has been here we seem to change our offensive philosophy every year. This past year was to start running the no-huddle. How about picking a scheme and running it to perfection. If tweaks need to be made because of personel then fine but how can you expect college players that only have limited practice time each week to start from scratch each year. Let's quit following the flavor of the month and lets play old fashion Colorado Buff football.

Wishbone

I am a five year guy, if DH is still struggling after five the way he is now, then pull the plug. The problem with year number three is people are anxious to see some improvement and it's hard to identify now. That puts incredible pressure on next year and the year after IMO. DH has to get something rolling between now and Oct. '10 or most will start showing their displeasure in the way that really hurts...not attending games.
