a few prelim comments...

if it wasn't clear before then this game ought to be the capper. the staff is absolutely struggling to find *anything* that works. with all the youth, inexperience, injuries, etc., they are simply flailing around. they don't have any offensive philosophy at all-- it is just "let's try this and see if it works."

ok, with that said, here's WHY the no-huddle worked and c-hawk looked like a world-beater... isu is a bad team and they are also very young. they couldn't get any pressure on cody once CU went to the no-huddle because they couldnt get their defense calls set. and, they were neither experienced enough nor talented enough to overcome not being able to set the defense. this, combined with the general difficulty of winning a conference game on the road and the fact that their defense wore down in the altitude, made the difference.

against crappy teams, at home, and where the defense can't get much pressure up front, cody gives CU the best chance to win. but, when CU is outmatched on the line, then hansen running around for his life is what the staff has decided upon. this will be demonstrated next week when a good team comes in.

i am super-glad for the win and for c-hawk. the team deserved that, big time.

the special teams are disgraceful. i mean seriously, every facet of st is horrific. i can't believe riddle still has a job. these are the worst special teams at CU that i can remember, ever. these are even worse than fairbanks era special teams. horrible. disgusting. embarrassing. there is no excuse for it.

finally, i was glad to see dscott get involved some. he showed his flashes again. i think the team can really build upon this win. i hope all the recruits see the potential and the heart of this team. if they get most everyone back next year, they really could be pretty decent... not elite... but pretty decent.

the osu game is likely to be very ugly and the fuskers are playing better than they have been. so, i think the likelihood of a bowl seems low, but we will see...

I agree that that Cody's hurry-up offense works great at altitude against a gassed young inexperienced B12 bottomfeeder defense. Moreso when the opposing defensive coordinator was on his heals following a QB change.

Definitely something to build on. Let's hope we can keep it competitive against Ok State and let's hope to beat the Huskers.

I will give the coaches credit that, at least today, once they found something that worked they stuck with it instead of changing it and losing any rhythm the team had gained.

Hopefully Hansen still gets significant time this year. Great game by Cody, though. First time he's looked good all year.

I'd temper the enthusiasm with the fact that we were playing a very young/very bad defense at home, but, at this point, I'll take it. CU has looked bad against bad defenses this year at times (KSU, A&M come to mind).

OSU looks likely to lose today. How they will respond remains to be seen obviously. I think they will come in pissed off, knowing they lost their shot to play in a BCS bowl game (unless some REALLY wierd stuff happens down the stretch...) and come out fired up.

Still have little faith for OSU and NU, realistically, but I will be there / watching.

Yea, I liked that we stuck with each QB for an entire half instead of changing QB's every few series.

I called for Cody at half during the chat and people called me an asshole and and a stupid fan. See?

Just because you were right about that doesn't mean you're not an asshole.:smile2:

Cody had a GREAT half today! Something like 20 of 24 for 200+ yards and 4 TD's. Not to shabby for our backup

He's only the backup because he's the coach's kid, though. I woulda liked to have seen Ballenger in there.

No negative reps, I'm joking.

Walrus, isn't it like 5:30 A.M. there ? Have you been up since before the game ?

Ask Jens, when you're in Europe you don't need to sleep...ever! Also, I'm at work. Aside from a Russian Sub disaster, and this and that, things are pretty quiet here.

We've got a lot of big screens in the office, so it was no problem to put the CU game up, and then the TT/OSU game too. Maybe don't tell anybody, though. There's a Sergeant Major for the Netherlands that works extra hard when College Football's playing.

You have it better than my brother. I think he watches games in the middle of the night using yahoo game tracker.

I've spent a lot of time in the middle of the ocean doing exactly that. Four football seasons in the Arabian Gulf, and amazingly we get a lot of games out there via satellite. But live football runs from eight PM until eight Sunday morning. There was a standing order that stated I didn't fly on Sundays, since Football Saturday was always an allnighter.

You do what you have to do

I think Italy bought the wide screens...

Cody is a better quarterback than he has shown this season. Once he lost confidence in the O-line he wouldn't stay in the pocket and started making hasty decisions, and consequently lost confidence in himself. I also think that this two-qb thing messes with both kids' heads. Once he was benched and it looked like the job was given to Hansen, he was able to come in and play looser, without so much pressure.

I would also dispute your point that he didn't have a lot of pressure, he just managed it better. He looked fearless when he took that monster shot on the pass that Devenney dropped, but he stayed set and threw a great strike.

The team has more confidence with Cody in there, there is no question they played with more inspiration with him in the game, and to me they have always looked flatter with Hansen. I think huddle presence by a qb is an underrated intangible.

Bottom line is that while Hansen has more raw talent and can throw a pretty pass, Cody is clearly the better team leader, and makes better decisions when he has his head right. He gives this team the best shot to win, at least this year.

Finally, I believe we have the better shot to win next week than in Lincoln. Our pass D is pretty decent and Okie State might come in flat. However, the skers are improving weekly, and Lincoln is an intimidating place to play for a young team, many of the starters haven't seen an environment like that. Also, they will be playing inspired ball with the last home game for the Srs, etc.

Not only could they not put pressure on Cody, but they couldn't cover our WR's who haven't been generally open all year. Their D-backs were confused and tired as well. Several blown coverages. It just goes back to the O-Line. Cody is a serviceable QB who looked like all-world yesterday b/c he had open WR's and plenty of time. Not taking anything away from him - he delivered. But the first half, we didn't have as much time or seperation without the NO HUDDLE. With that said, Hansen's not ready. He is too skittish in the pocket, abandoning it several times when he needed to step forward and into the pocket with OK protection. Common rookie mistake.
