Special teams

I'd prefer to see Riddle keep the tight ends, where he's been solid in the past, and may Hawk could transfer ST duties to someone else?

Today's game was the worst display of special teams I've seen this season.

wally, our special teams are historically horrible. seriously. do you recall ever seeing a worse unit in CU ever? these 3 years of special teams under hawkins are so crappy that i almost cannot put in to words how ****ty they are compared to every other Buff team basically ever.

the worst display this season of the worst performing special teams unit of all time...

great.

i hate to call for a coach's head, but how does riddle have a job? it is unbelievable.

Liver, as is often the case, you're absolutely correct. I meant to write "ever", but my fingers (erm) got away from me. Definitely the worst I've ever seen!

Funny. I was watching (but not listening) to the Iowa/Penn State game out of the corner of my eye.

Iowa, down by two had a first down on PSU's 15 yard line with 16 seconds remaining.

And I just kept thinking...c'mon! You gotta punch the ball in the end zone. Only when the kicking team trotted out on the field did it occur to me that was an option. That's what our kicking slump has done to my thought process.

Riddle must be gone. I have heard rumors of rumors that Hawk is planning to let him go very soon.

Riddle + bandison should be GONE.

Let's see, what was the tally from today?

- 2 missed FG's
- Had an extra point blocked
- 2 running into the punter penalties
- A squib kick out of bounds in the last minute

:sad2: :sad2: :sad2:
And I'm probably even leaving some out.

Not sure about that statement Liver, Mason was other-worldly and as I recall we had a string of All-American punters in the McCartney days. Hell the 50 year old Mitch Berger is still punting in the NFL.

80,

I think Liver is suggesting that our special teams are terrible at an historical level. I don't think he's trying to state that they've been bad in the past.

Ah, right - what can I say, my age is showing :sad2:

2 long kick returns for Iowa State as well.

I blame Liver.

i can take it!

you know the one good thing about economic downturns? the restaurants are a lot less crowded and hectic!

i am going out and see if i can drink my liver into forgetting about the incredible ineptitude of riddle.

if riddle were a president, he'd be W (or carter).

if riddle were a musical act, he'd be peaches and herb.

if riddle were a country, he'd be canada.

and if he were a sport, he'd be soccer.

On a somewhat related note, anyone know why Mcknight was in for the last return instead of Josh, who had a pretty damn good day returning kicks?

I know Josh isn't 100%, so I would assume that would be why?

I'm not defending Riddle in any way but can someone explain how it is the coach's fault that a player misses a field goal and that a kickoff gets shanked out of bounds? Sounds like the kid kicks fine in practice but can't carry that into the game.

smith sat out the last 2 series as well. something is wrong. either he got hurt or he pissed off the coaches.

Cuz the coaches actually control everything the players do through PS2 controllers. I thought everyone knew that?

No wonder we've been struggling. Come on coaches, get a PS3 or an Xbox 360. ****, even a Wii controller would be better than the PS2 remote...

On that last kickoff, we had two or three guys totally out of position in their coverage. And I mean a good 5-10 yard out of their lanes. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. How freaking hard is it to STAY IN YOUR LANE?!?!? :bang:

I'm probably wrong and it probably was due to his injured shoulder/s, but when I seen that McKnight was back there I assumed it was so Smith wouldn't do nothing too risky. I believed they wanted a more conservative return that time. Smith has made some great returns and some not so bright decisions that were too risky and could have and have created turnovers this season.
