After re-watching the game...

A couple of things appear to me.

First, I think Cody played a great game. I think it was a great team win. However, Cody's performance came against one of the weakest pass defenses in the nation. If Iowa State were able to mount a pass rush I suspect the game would probably have had a different outcome. For instance, some of Cody's touchdown passes were too wide open receivers. The bubble screen fake was a thing of beauty, and a great play call, but you have to wonder how often something like that is going to work. Smoke and mirrors only goes so far.

If CU is going to stay in the shotgun hybrid offense, Hansen has to be the long-term answer. Without a running threat, that offense won't go in my opinion. He will have to take his lumps before it gets better, so I was disappointed to see them pulled from the game, although, I think it was the right thing to do to try to win the game, and in this game, against this defense, the answer was Cody.

Cody would be a fine player if he had a dominating running game and great pass protection. But he is not going to carry a team on his arm, and CU simply does not have the running game and pass protection to support him, thus Hansen is the long-term answer.

I still wonder why the I has not been used more. The only reason I can come up with, is it is only used when CU feels like they can outman the other opponent. So far, that would be West Virginia and Iowa State. Looking back, CU has only truly manhandled one team and that is Colorado State.

If Iowa State had a pass rush, I fear the outcome of Saturday's game would have been different. Okie State will mount a pass rush and I hope CU has an answer for it.

Overall, a gutty performance by a young team and I'm glad they won.

:iagree: Good post Lefty.

Maybe ISU's lack of pass rush was just good pass-protection:smile2: You have to think that next year with Scott and Stewart and a healthy O-Line Cody would have the protection and running game to be successful

I don't understand why they don't stick with the I a little more also. They seem to start a drive with it but as the drive progresses they end up shifting back to the shotgun. The second missed field goal posession in the first half was that way. We drove down to the ten or so using the I then got in the shotgun. We for some reason like to stop our own drives instead of having the other 11 opposing guys do it. Pound it until they stop you.

, I hope you are right...

Okie St. will be a good barometer of the OL's progress...

There was a huge difference in the play of the OL from the 1st half to the 2nd. In the 2nd, after that initial drive shoved the ball down ISU throats, they had to respect the run and that most definitely helped with the pass blocking. Through the 1st half, ISU's D-line teed off on Hansen since there was no running game and Hansen's passing threat wasn't there.

I see Cody's success as the OL finally getting it together for awhile and controlling the game.
