About everybody & their mother was on the Anti-Cody bandwagon a few weeks back (including myself)...but after a stellar performance this weekend and an ineffective Hansen for the past few weeks what's the thoughts on who should start this weekend?

I personally was excited for Hansen playing at first, but after watching him a few games the only thing that's exciting is his ability to run....I think his lack of confidence & knowledge in the passing game is killing the offense though...he might have a better arm than Cody, but he doesn't read the defense very well yet and usually doesn't find the open receiver until it's too late....Cody on the other hand knows exactly where the receivers will be, makes good reads just lacks the arm...but if Cody is on like last weekend then he can be pretty efficient

Hints from the coaching staff is that Cody will start this weekend which I think is the right move.....what's your call?
 
I like Cody at this point. He didn't lead one good drive, or look sort of good. He led the team on FOUR long drives and finished the game passing for 4 TD's and a two point conversion in a single half. I saw the Cody on Saturday that got us to a bowl game last season and beat OU, TTech, and NU. He has to be completely jacked up and full of confidence right now, let's see where it takes the team.

My best case scenario would be to have Cody take full control of the starting position again, and redshirt Hansen next year. The kid has a ton of promise, and practically won the KSU game(along with a stellar defensive performance). I would hate to waste a starting year with him backing up Cody, if Cody can be the guy.

I am all for Cody starting, but I think redshirting Hansen would be a huge mistake. We need some depth at QB for a change. If you redshirt Hansen, you're basically going with Ballenger and a true freshman I guess. That is scary depth.
 
I'm all for Cody starting, but if we have to throw the ball 29 times in a half, we're in deep ****. I want the I-form the entire game, so we can run some clock and use the play-action.

I dont like the 2 QB system, but I wouldn't mind throwing Hansen in there for a series or two. Change the defense up a little

Agreed. I believe that is why we are bringing in two QBs this recruiting cycle. I think dad sees the writing on the wall for Cody and Ballenger just doesn't have the goods. Let Cody and Hansen battle for the position the next two years while you develop the younger QBs.
 
The protection Cody got vs. ISU was a whole different ball game than what he got vs. FSU, Mizzou, UT, etc. The D-front for OSU will be big, fast and mean. IF they show up, we will find out if our O-Line play has improved or if ISU was just weak on the pass rush (which is what their other games tell us).

I've always maintained that Cody was efficient if the O-Line blocked and the WR's ran routes. Not spectacular but efficient enough.

Hansen has the raw ability to take our offense to a whole different level. But not this year. He's too quick to quit on the pass and leaves the pocket prematurely. He is not able to stay calm and get thru his reads and progressions.

So for now, Cody is our best bet to win if we can protect. Hansen is the QB of the future. No regrets in pulling the redshirt. If we stayed with Cody, he may have been killed by now. If not by a defender, by an unruly fan. Playing Hansen not only gave him invaluable experience, but it also gave Cody a chance to regain his confidence and for the unruly's to see he's not playing because of Daddy, but b/c he is the best we have when you consider everything, not just arm strength and running ability.

I agree completely here, because if Cody has time he can definately make things happen....I wouldn't necessarily call OSU's d-line "big, fast & mean"...they are Dead Last in the Big 12 in sacks at 11 total all year...they're pretty good at stopping the rush, but not at getting to the QB...so maybe Cody can get the same kind of time and pass the ball well!

Did you watch the Mizzou game? OSU got pressure on Chase Daniel all game long with their front four.
 
Hansen is going to be good, he just needs some time and reps in the offense. Red-shirting Hansen next year won't provide the valuable playing time and 1st and 2nd team offensive reps during practice that he needs to get consistent. He has the size, arm and mobility to be big time. We need to get him as much PT as possible over the next two games without giving up the games. We also need to communicate the fact that it will be an open QB competition next year...even for the incoming Freshmen.

CH has peaked, he's a good alternative to the starter if injury or slump occurs. He is not the long term answer because he lacks the arm...hate to say it because he was last week's hero, but there it is.

I wouldn't mind seeing Cody, provided he is still playing well, but I agree that Hansen needs to see some playing time the next couple games. If we make a bowl game, Hansen should get at least the entire first half like the ISU game.
 
You have to start Cody. You reward performance on this team, even if its the coaches son. If he hits a rough patch, switch it up. But if he doesn't, we shouldn't see Hansen for more than a series or 2.

Could not agree more. Then when the defense starts to cheat up to the line of scrimmage you play action them to with the TE right down the middle. Pretty easy gameplan if you ask me.
 
I hope Scott is healthy for this game. If we are reduced to Sumler, it will NOT be good.

YES WE NEED TO RUN...However Cody plays how the O-line plays. Hansen can play inspite of the o-line???
