Because either riddell isn't coaching worth a damn or josh isn't listening. How many ****ing times has he caught a punt inside the 10 this year? How many times has he returned a kickoff from 9 yds deep in the end zone?

Someone please correct this,it's game 11 for cripes sake.

The timing on the punt return from the six still has me pissed.

Buffs force turnover, score, force a punt and then the offense has to start from the 5. That really killed the comeback attempt.

Smith is a gamer but the mental errors need to stop.

Considering the injuries to our offense and the strong play that OSU's defense has exhibited all year, I wouldn't be surprised if Hawkins and the coaches just instructed Josh to return everything he got his hands on. See if we could somehow get a quick freebie touchdown through special teams.

As much as I can't stand some of the boneheaded catches/returns Smith makes, I think you are right Ralphie. Smith is so hurt that they tell him to return what he can. He is not healthy enough to be a regular part of the offense.

That's great until after the 5oth time you get stuffed back in your own end you might want to re-think that decision:rolleyes:

He also returned a couple out to the 40.

Some good, some bad, but no returns that were either game breaking or back breaking... on the whole, I don't think his returns skewed the result of the game one way or the other.

Probably not,but down 10,you don't fair catch the ball at the 4 yd line and he's done it all year. EVERYONE knows you don't do that, well, everyone but riddell and josh.

My memory of individual plays is rarely all that sharp, but I don't remember him ever doing that.

Yeah, but at that point down 2 scores getting late, you have to try and make a play. I don't mind it in that situation.

Whether that was what was in his mind, is another question.

One question on the k/o return from deep in the end zone (late game):

Did anyone notice if the other k/o returner tried to signal J-Fly to down the ball?

Smith's kickoff/punt returns is basically our offense. This is why he returns everything. I'm cool with it.

I would agree, once it's getting late in the game and you're down by more than 1 score and need to make a play, let a returner like Josh field a punt inside the 10. Kind of like going for 2 - don't do it until it's late in the game and you really need to. But in general, I'd rather not see anything fielded inside the 10, regardless of who your return guy is.

Calling Smith out for not fair catching punts inside the 10 and running kick offs out of the end zone is misplaced. The blame is squarely on the coaching staff who have publicly said that this is their policy. Smith is simply doing what he is told to do; if he didn't he would be replaced by someone who would.

So regardless of the coverage and game situation the coaches think it's OK to catch a punt at the 5 yard line ? I am all for Smith trying to make something happen but when the coverage is there let the ball bounce.

I didn't question him running the ball out of the end zone on kick offs. I am fine with that.

From what I recall Hawk wants all kicks returned.

I am ok with the returning, but the constant running it to the outside (mainly right) is driving me nuts. All you are doing is giving the other team an extra tackler (the sideline).
