Anyone else watching this? Turner Gill and the Bulls up 35-24 with about 4 mins left. Ball St. QB has 4, count em, 4 fumbles tonight. TG has done an amazing job at Buffalo and is gonna get a big payday very soon.

It was actually a great game until the end of the 3rd quarter when Ball State couldn't hold onto the football... Honeymoon's over for Ball St.

Bo Pelini was a good quick fix to what ailed NU - no defense whatsoever and a lack of toughness and heart under Callahan.

However, you have to wonder if Turner Gill wouldn't have been the better choice 5+ years from now. He's got to be the hottest coaching up-n-comer out there right now. Tennessee or UW should have jumped all over that guy rather than an OC with no background building anything....

But what a natural fit for Turner to have gone to work for Coach Osborne.... I think Bo will likely work out pretty well as long as he doesn't bite the head off an animal and start spitting blood on his players.

I sure agree with that.

T.O. either went for the popular, instant gratification choice, or T.G. turned down the job, being the religious fellow that he is and having made promises to his players back then, etc. I honestly don't know.

Before the hire when the debate was going on and the interviews were happening, etc, I noticed a hell of a lot of pull for Pelini and a sort of sentimental post here and there for Gill. I was pulling strongly for Gill for all the reasons you state there.

it was a very tough choice and a great problem for TO to have had.

Saw Turner's interview after the game. Never thought I'd say this about a former kneebraska player, but I'm happy for him. Seems like a good, God loving man who is more absorbed in his players than himself. A real character guy... I like that.

It was that stuff that I thought would be better for Nebraska, along with being good at what he does, than Bo Pelini.

Not to knock the new coach who is doing well, but the temperament seemed more suited to some other program than Nebraska's. Gill's seemed better.

I posted about that and was reminded of Devaney's sometimes firey demeanor along with his love for booze. :smile2:

Any coach will tell you turnovers can be a killer.

You really need to give both teams coaches credit. Both these teams were total doormats. Ball State had something along the lines of a 20 game losing streak. Had they not coughed up the ball it might have been a different story.

Gill is proving that he's a good game day coach, players coach, and recruiter. I agree that he will likely end up somewhere else. Watching him coach to his players on the sideline was pretty impressive. He commands a lot of respect in the industry.

If I remember it correctly Gill withdrew from consideration?

It's all coming back to me now.

Bo will be out in 3 years. Bank on it. He'll be the Frank Solich of the late 2000's. Osborne will have Gill at kNU before 2011.

Was always the plan. Bo just doesn't know it yet

That's a big reason that Syracuse may be reluctant about Gill, because they know he really wants to back to Nebraska at some point and SU would just be a short stint for him.

No conspiracy to have Gill replace Pelini, I believe.

*But,* :smile2: Pelini himself may be forseeing a chance to up his NFL coaching chances by being successful at Nebraska for 3 to 5 years.

If so, Mr. Gill could be the object of attention by the Nebraska A.D.

I don't see Gill going to Syracuse. To me, at best, it's a lateral movement. Yeah, he's already proven he can find east coast players and it's a step up in conference, but it's not much better of a situation than he had at UB. I could see Tech going after him if Leach leaves, maybe even Miss St. if they can't convince Tubs or Fat Phil to come on board.

MAC to the Big East is definitely a move up.

Here's the biggest compliment I can give as a Buff fan.

I'm glad we NU hired Bo and not Turner Gill. I really feal Turner could go into California and compete for some of those USC boys. Bo did a great job and we know he is a great DC. As a HC, I think he's got some potential issues that could flare up along the way.

Turner Gill just looks to me like the hottest deal going and I'd hate to recruit against him. You can just see those Mama's putting their faith in Turner... If they don't fall in love with him because of his good looks, they will fall in love with his good Christian values.

I have a feeling that he's going to end up at Auburn. I don't know why, I just feel that way.
