University of Utah = National Champion!

Argue against it all you want...

No arguement beats: Undefeated and won their BCS bowl.

I might also add they beat the team that I believe was #1 for a majority of the season too.

Beat Michigan, TCU, BYU, and Alabama.

Is that enough?

Didn't lose any games. Champions are measured by wins and losses right? If not, then I say CU is the National Champion... I mean we had the smartest 2001 recruiting class.

This makes non-BCS teams like 4-1 in BCS bowl games now.

No Argument here. Utah should be National Champions. The ONLY undefeated team in the nation. The AP can still vote them Champs. It should be at least a split MNC.

Undefeated doesnt even mean anything anymore. Its BS, and we need a ****ing Playoff, there's simply is no alternative. It will happen, it may take 10 or 20 years but it will happen. You can still keep the bowls; who wouldnt like to get paid money for a free vacation and free gifts and publicity? But that's another argument.

The UTES = 2008 National Champs!

How sweet would that be?:thumbsup:

I'll buy into it, they did all they were supposed to do. Back in 84 BYU won the title going undefeated.

The NCAA pitted Boise state and TCU in a bowl game so they could not do what Utah did tonight. Kick the piss out of the overrated BCS teams.

Yeah the thing that worries me though is they are going to have a 4 team playoff or something lame that is an attempt at fixing things but doesn't really fix it for more than most years.

I really hope the media runs with this Utah thing... If they do it may lead to enough pressure to get a real playoff going. I have a feeling though, that the announcers at the Orange Bowl are going to be gagged and flogged if they even mention Utah or any state close to it during the telecast of the OU/Florida game.

the announcers of this game were ducking it for sure, thank God the camera people were showing signs in the stands.

If it's Mushberger and "Herbie" no worries. They are such shills they'll act as if OU and UF are the greatest teams in the history of the universe. This is when that blowhard Brent excels like no other.

texas just got what they wanted: a split national championship. too bad for them it will not include the horns - no matter what way they slice it.

if the ap does not crown utah their national champion, something is wrong.

Fox has the game, so no Mushie or Herbie for the title game.

They get my vote. 13-0 is not easy. Maybe not the best offense but still effective enough to keep Bama out of it. What makes them mNC caliber is their defense. You can't argue with undefeated.

I actually was really impressed with their offense. They ran up and down the field on the drives that they scored on. I know they had three drives for TDs that looked like pitch and catch practice. That QB and his wideouts had some chemistry going for sure!

I think if the game were closer, which it wasn't, they would have been challenged to take time off of the clock. They pass A LOT and that stops the clock. Their D won that game.

:yeahthat:

A four team playoff probably wouldn't have solved a damn thing this year. The four teams would have been UF, OU, USC and most likely Texass, or possibly Penn State since they won the Big X and some people still like to pretend that means something. It's highly doubtful that an unbeaten Utah team would have even been included. Obviously, they belonged.

I don't know if they deserve to be #1 or not. I'll see how UF/OU goes before I make that call. But they sure as **** deserved the chance to determine that once and for all on the field, and we deserved the chance to see it... :sad2:

Exactly, that is why I want a 16 team playoff that gives automatic bids to winners of Conference Championship games and fills the other half dozen or so slots with whoever is ranked highest of those who didn't win the championship games. This will pretty much force the Pac/Big10 to create some sort of championship game or else they have to count on getting the wild card bid by being ranked high enough. Anything less than 16 either doesn't make sense and solves nothing or isn't fair to everyone.

You make a 16 team playoff and the best team will win!

Oh for sure, their D played great... I just wasn't expecting their offense to play as well as it did. The only way I saw Utah winning was with Alabama shooting themselves in the foot with a few pick 6s and Utah getting the kick return for a TD.

Alabama didn't give this one away, Utah took it.

Utah represented the Mountain West well. The MWC is as worthy as the Big East or MAC to become a BCS conference.

If you truly subscribe to this theory -- then CU should not have been given a share of the 1990 National Championship. After all, Georgia Tech was undefeated.

Quick!!! Somebody fedex a case of Coors to bama-chucky.

He's gonna need it.

There are other ways to haul Coors beer to Bama Chucky.

I normally hate "what if" questions in arguments, but I will hypocritically use one as I ask, "What would you say if Ball State had ended the season undefeated?" They were mighty close to doing so...

16 teams would be awful, and mid majors don't cause much of a headache to the 4 team playoff model. They could just add a clause to however the teams are selected to stipulate that any undefeated D-1 teams are automatically granted a spot in the playoff, and if there's 5 undefeated teams (never gonna happen) the top 4 from the polls would get into the playoff.

Personally, I'm an 8 team playoff guy, with no automatic bids given to the conference champions. All 8 slots would be determined by and seeded according to the polls, with a clause included for mid majors just like the one I detailed above.

If I am not mistaken, wouldn't that clause have meant that Ball State, Boise State and Utah would have made 3/4 of the playoff field this year??

I think 8 teams is about right for the playoff too... and you're probably right about no automatic bids. As soon as you do that, you end up using up most of the field on those automatic bids, most of whom are going to be less deserving than some teams who will be left out...
