Re: '10 CO QB Austin Hinder

6'5" and 178 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This kid needs to put some meat on his bones.

Re: '10 CO QB Austin Hinder

I think it would be a major statement for Hawk to keep "The Big 3" in state next year.

Hinder, Spond, and Coulter... Hinder being the only one who I think will actually have a chance to play QB in college. But a big in-state year for Hawk and co.

Re: '10 CO QB Austin Hinder

We need to grab this guy. Who cares if he is only a 180lbs? He is only a junior in HS. He is already 6'5'' and he'll pack on the lbs over the next couple of years.

Re: '10 CO QB Austin Hinder

His physical stats are nice (needs more meat, yes) - I hope he heads off to CU

Re: '10 CO QB Austin Hinder

sorry to detract from Hinder, but does anyone know about Johnny Miller. He was first brought up on these boards a few years ago when he was a freshman, but he hasn't played. Next season, he's a senior, but scout has a decent interest list for the kid. Any info?

Steamboat Springs High School quarterback Austin Hinder, pictured here during a team practice this fall, heads to an elite football camp this week. Hinder is considered one of the top quarterback recruits in the state.

Hinder off to top national combine
Steamboat Springs High School quarterback to attend elite football camp
By Luke Graham

Steamboat Springs — Austin Hinder has been to so many camps and has run so many drills that going to one of the top combines in the nation doesn’t raise his blood pressure.

But Hinder, a junior quarterback at Steamboat Springs High School who racked up more than 2,000 yards of total offense and 20 touchdowns last season, admits the U.S. Army National Combine might be the biggest and most important elite camp he’s attended.

The combine, which invites the nation’s top 400 to 500 juniors, begins Friday in San Antonio. It’s followed on Saturday by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Game that features the top high school seniors in the nation.

suh-weet!!! hope Hawk-man can land this cat from Steamboat! He might be our latest two sport athlete (skiing/football) - just kidding... don't know that he actually skis...

I'd say it's a pretty safe assumption to make. I'd love to have a kid from Steamboat on the roster, that's far and away my favorite town in the state... not that that's even slightly relevant to football, of course.

His Grandpa played at Cal and that was his first offer.... Hawk will have some work to do.

Hey. My grandpa played at Cal too with "Wrong Way" Riegels. I was a buff so this guy has to be a buff.

Re: '10 CO QB Austin Hinder

Getting him would be huge. He is a probable top 100 recruit and he wants to make his decision early. Would be the type of commit that could set up the rest of the class in a very good way.

Hinder's goal is to become an Elite 11 quarterback.

Colorado quarterbacks looking for more

SAN ANTONIO – Austin Hinder and Danny Spond already hold multiple Division I scholarship offers, but the two Colorado standouts had something they wanted to prove at the U.S. Army National Combine on Friday.

Hinder wanted to prove he is worthy of Elite 11 quarterback consideration while Spond wanted to prove he has the arm to line up behind center at the next level.

Hinder hails from Steamboat Springs, a town known for its World-class skiing, not for producing D-1 football players.

"When you come out of a smaller school like I do, you just have to work that much harder," said Hinder, who accounted for more than 2,000 yards of offense and 20 touchdowns this past season. "It is all about going to camps like this and playing well so you can get your name out there."

Re: '10 CO QB Austin Hinder

Colorado's class of 2010 should be packed with talent.

:yeahthat:

Hopefully next year is the year the increased focus on in-state recruiting really pays off. Sounds like there are quite a few juniors who will have their pick of schools.

As far as Hinder, he represents a chance for us to grab that elusive blue chip QB. I know he really likes Cal, but maybe we can make up the ground. If not, maybe we scoop up a top tier California prep QB that would have committed to Cal in years past. Should be fun to watch. If we can nab Hinder, we will be set up for a very good class (since he wants to decide before his senior season).

Hinder's first scholarship offer came from Cal, the program he grew up cheering for.

"The day I got that offer was one of the best days of my life," he said. "I never thought my first offer would come from my favorite school. It was a great feeling."

Kansas State, Nebraska and Stanford have since stepped up to the plate with an offer.

Cal must be the front runner at this time. At least from what I gather from the article.

"[Head] coach Dan Hawkins [from Colorado] sent me an e-mail saying that they are offering me a scholarship but for me to actually get the written offer, I have to come to CU to pick it up," Hinder added. "Which is fine, I am just going to stop by."

Good or bad move from Hawk? I believe it's a good move. Get him to Boulder to get to know the school better and have the opportunity to really pitch the program to him.

Re: '10 CO QB Austin Hinder

Much like with Kasa, this guy is a national recruit that has a favorite school that is out of state. His Grandfather played at Cal and is a long time NFL coach. The depth chart at Cal is much stronger for QB than it is at CU right now.

I'm quite sure that one of the major selling points will be choosing a school that will develop him the best, in a pro-style offense. Tedford has a decent track record. Don't be surprised to see Norm Chow, Sarkisian, Tedford, Boy Wonder at Rocky Top, etc all over this guy. Not to be negative, but this guy is going to be a tough one to keep here. It will take a BIG season of on-field improvement to get this guy.

I don't believe we'll get that chance. Austin wants to make his decision before his senior year begins. Somehow we'll have to land him in the off season.

Re: '10 CO QB Austin Hinder

I've heard that one before....

I know what you are saying. In one of those articles he stated he wanted to make his decision early though. He probably doesn't want to be distracted by recruiting during his senior season.

Re: '10 CO QB Austin Hinder

Not to mention that if he commits to an offer from a school, and gets hurt during his senior year, they are unlikely to pull the offer. Makes one less worry while playing his senior season.

Re: '10 CO QB Austin Hinder

If hawk and the staff knew this kid was as talanted as everyone is saying that he is they should have been on him a long time ago and the very first school to offer him.

We'll have a really tough time beating out CAL,

Dream School, First school to offer, offered during his Junior year, what more can a kid ask for when he's always wanted to go to CAL, even the Fuskers offered before we did...

Chill a bit - I bet that Hawk & Co. were in on this kid a long time ago. They were working DScott for years.

The fact Hawk and the coaches had him on campus for a couple games this Fall shows nothing. He clearly has been given little attention by our coaching staff. One big epic fail on this one unfortunately.

dooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!

Re: '10 CO QB Austin Hinder

Being first to offer is meaingless. He attended a Cal camp last year on his own dollar guys.
We have no idea about the rest and we should worry about something else! Worrying about if the fuskers offered first is a joke.

U.S. Army National All-Combine Team: Offense

SAN ANTONIO – There was no better place to see more than 500 of the nation's top junior prospects than on the field at the Alamodome last Friday at the U.S. Army All-American Combine. Rivals.com's recruiting analysts got a good look at the stars of tomorrow, and here is a look at the Rivals.com All-Combine Offensive team.

First Team: Austin Hinder, 6-5, 178, Steamboat Springs, Colo.

Hinder was already a well known name, putting his name on the national recruiting map in 2008. He did it again with another strong showing at the Army Combine. There is no doubt that Hinder will be one of the top pro-style quarterback prospects in the entire nation in the Class of 2010. As he continues to physically mature, his arm strength will get even better. Combined with his height, excellent accuracy and a good decision making, he's lined up to be one of the best of the best next year.
