3-4

Yes we did run the 3-4 for a while in those days, and I totally agree that it would be a good fit in 2009 - especially since we may be short on DLs (Kasa and Nuckols notwithstanding) and we have an absolute glut of linebackers.

thought id ask i was a little kid at that time. 3-4 sounds good, especially with a guy like Major, I think he could rush a little.

Its hard to recruit linemen to a 3-4 because they are basically sacrificial lambs in the 3-4.

Anyway, Kasa is not a good fit for the 3-4, so while we are going to run it some, I doubt it's going to be our base defense.

The 3-4 does have some advantages though.

We ran a 3-4 or 5-3 until '94 when we switched to a 4-3 / 4-2 will-out. The theory back then was that you needed more speed at the will and sam in order keep up with the West-Coast short passing. All things old are new again. If we switch, all we need is a Kyle Rappold / Joel Steed / Jeff Brunner type noseguard and we'll be fine.

Cunningham puts on 10 or 20 pounds, he fits nose tackle real well. Im not saying we should switch, just like the blitz packages from the 3-4 better and personally found 3-4's harder to handle.

I like the idea of it simply because it puts more speed on the field as well as compliments are stash of linebackers.
