Bo Peep gets contract extension

Ok, to start off, I do think Bo Peep has a promising future in Lincoln. I think he is a good coach, if he can control his emotion. However, I think it is a little premature to give him an extension after 1 season.

He still doesn't have a true quality win, no Clemson doesn't count, that was a mediocre team that fired it's coach midway through season. Both NU and Clemson did NOT belong in a New Years bowl IMO.

He almost and should have lost to a bad CU team and got another 60 put on them by OU.

It was only three seasons ago that NU was claiming they were back with their "restore the order" campain after a solid season and Big 12 north title, only to not go to a bowl the next season.

Nu still has not won a confrence title in 10 years.Personally I think Pelini still has a lot of work to do to earn an extension, but thats just me.

I can't wait to shove it down his throat in Boulder!

I totally agree Unleash. The first year of a coach's tenure is the least telling of their abilities due to player personnel and coaching transition. While I think Pelini has had a solid start, let's see how they do with a tougher schedule this year and a new quarterback.

Eh, it's only $$$. There are only 2 downsides to extending Bo's contract. The first is that they'll have to buy it out if he turns out to suck. The corn have the money to do that so they don't care.

The other downside would be if they were worried about complacency once they give him a big contract (see, Fairbanks, Chuck). Since Bo appears to be completely insane, this probably doesn't worry the corn.

The upsides are it helps with recruiting and will help if Bo actually does well enough to get a sniff from other programs (seems unlikely at this point.)

Right now, the corn crave structure and consistency. They've had a ton of upheaval the last 10 years. Signing Bo Peep to a long term deal makes sense in that regard. Plus, as NYC said, if it turns out that he sucks, they have the cash to buy him out.

I think this extension and raise is more about the direction and attitude of the team right now than it is about quality wins. The fact is, BC would've found a way to lose at least 3 of those games that they won last season. That says a lot about Bo. I kinda liked that they started him at the bottom of the conference in pay until he proved that he could handle all the responsibilities that comes with coaching. I wish the NBA/NFL/MLB would do the same with rookies when they come in. Make them prove that they're worth the money before you sign them to a huge contract. I think the most important thing that was overlooked here is that all of the assistants got a raise as well, which is something that Bo was fighting for.

That is why I think it is premature, husker nation seemed so fine and dandy when Cally won the north.

I guess we shall see what all the Buff fans think of the raise BO got after the game in Boulder this year:smile:

Aren't contract extensions just standard procedure, at worst they have to pay more to get rid of him at best they keep him at a reduced rate for longer than the initial contract.

Can we really question them giving him an extension when our coach at 13-24 recieved one?

Did I say our coach deserved one? Hell no I didn't, so stop accusing me of **** I didn't do man. Oh BTW, Hawk has more wins over ranked opponents than Bo. Again, I don't think Hawk deserved one.

I didn't accuse you of anything sensitive suzie, just a general observation. Calm the eff down.

No, people getting what they don't deserve. Pro athletes, coaches in general.

No they don't deserve it but when owners and presidents and AD's pay these folks, they are just as much to blame.

Excuse me, I need to go make a voo-doo doll of josh mcdaniels.

Hawk does have more wins but of Bo's losses this season, two of them were very close losses to Va Tech (#14) and TT (#12). The other two were unexcuseable blowout losses to Mizzery (#16) and OU (#5). If the trend of blowouts to top ranked teams continues, you won't see any more raises. And you're absolutely right when you say he hasn't done anything yet. But he sure seems to have things going in the right direction.

I'll agree with you. He went 9-3? with no convincing wins, but did get a bowl victory and his team looked good against a couple of good teams. He will need to prove he can beat some of those good teams, but things are going in the right direction for that program. I see Bo being there for awhile. I still don't see y'all breaking the Top 15 anytime soon, but that may just be my biased hatred for you. Who knows? We'll just have to wait and see. But you will have at least one of your losses in Boulder next year. I know that.

I think the main reason behind all this is to add stability back to the program considering what we've went through over the past 10 years. It's been a clusterf*&k and this will help with recruiting as well. Do I think it's a little premature? Maybe and I can't help, but think of Callahan getting an extension after the first game of the season, but that was with Pedersen's dumba$$ at the helm.

Yes, you guys have been through a lot. Retro-active NCAA violations repremanding the behavior of a long-absent coach. A series of high-profile lawsuits against your university implicating the football team for behavior against recruits that never actually played at your school and against whom charges were never actually filed. The loss of a head coach, athletic director and two university presidents. Self-imposed recruiting standards which significantly limited the opportunity to attract new talent. Significant revenue problems. And of course more NCAA violations for non-scholarship athletes eating in the athletic chow hall (self-reported). I felt especially bad for you guys since Ohio State was busted on identical charges and was never punished.

You guys sure have been through a lot. My heart goes out...

I see what you did there.

We extend a coach who hasn't had a winning season, they extend a coach who just took his team from 5-7 to 9-4. I guess I don't see the big deal.

I agree BM. Why is it such a big deal to buff fans that Bo gets a raise along with his assistants? At least he has given us some hope that he is going to get us back to respectability after the Callahan debacle.

I just love life during the off-season around here. Nothing better than seeing a bunch of Colorado Buffalo fans talking s*!t and bit#%ing about a contract extension and raise for a Nebraska football coach.

And.............then you stir in several die hard Nebraska fans to mix it up with the natives. It's like icing on the cake!

BTW

How is the Spring Game ticket sales going? Sold out yet (for real or virtual)?

One more question. Anyone know what the line is for the NU - CU game in Boulder this year? That game is going to be a good one.
