I think it's safe to say his weight problems are in the past. :wow:

The newspaper this morning was saying the guy is just a specimen. 280 lbs of muscle. For a guy who hasn't played one down of football at CU, he's sure getting a lot of attention. Talk about him supplanting Miller at RT seems insane to me, but if it means we run the ball like a damn freight train, I'm all for it.

To me it looks like he could still carry an additional 20 lbs.

I admire your faith but the guy has not played a down of college football and has already had weight and health issues.

It would be nice if cubuffs.com would pick the players height and weight. They have givens at 265 and hansen has shrunk an inch.

Is scott really down to 200lbs? He played at what 215-220 last year? They say he's quicker, will he be able to carry the load at that weight in the big 12?

Easily. Givens will be an all American here if he can stay healthy. I really believe he's that good.

If he stays at RT and we have Miller at RG....then HOLY ****. Talk about crazy depth. Miller struggled at times, but to be beaten out by a Rs-Frosh (assuming he will be in fall when he is at 100%), well then he really does have the potential to be an AA.

And yet has sent Ryan Miller to another position. That doesn't say anything to you?

Says to me he must be pretty good to move out miller or miller hasn't turned out to be the dominant OL all the experts at rivals thought?

I want miller to start pancaking people and to get nasty, I'm hearing good things about him and less we forget,he's a sophmore.

200lbs at 4% bodyfat. He'll probably have to add some weight, but it's a lot easier to add muscle when you are really lean and lifting and eating well. The body does not support 4% bodyfat for very long, especially for someone that needs to get stronger. He should get up to 210ish by the time summer comes around.

Gymnasts are the only athletes that carry 4% (besides bodybuilders, but that doesn't count) and they do so by having a caloric deficit. Football players cannot support recovery at the level they need if they are have a caloric deficit. You'll lose too much strength during the season.

Damn, outstanding info, thanks NW. It is easier to build muscle, being 225 and out of shape doesn't do much for you compared to being 210 and fit.

nice info. I, however, am gonna go with the idea that Scott is simply an inhuman freak of nature who will dominate the Big XII to a degree we won't be able to believe...

oh and don't worry about him toting the rock 30/game... weve got speedy + locky, all is well.

4% BF isn't a freak of nature. Everyone can get that close with the right regime (diet, strength training and conditioning). However, what it shows to me is DISCIPLINE.

He came in as a frosh last year overweight (relative, mind you) and had difficulty pushing through nagging injuries. He's ready now to be the RB we all expected him to be. He wants it. Just wait. Those last 5 lbs are the hardest to lose.

Added fat is also good to act as added protection for muscles, ligaments and bones. As a RB he'll need more, just maybe about 7% ish. I just don't want him to lose strength during the season by wanting to "stay ripped." I want him to stay healthy and you don't lift the same as you do during the off-season during the season. Now you make strength gains, during the season you maintain them to help you "peak" at the right time.

Periodization is a wonderful training technique.

Let me rephrase that since it is misleading. It is easier to add muscle (and fat) when you are lean and not have to worry about keeping up your conditioning and to lose weight. Adding muscle is easier when you don't worry about the fat you are adding (some of the OL have probably had to cycle to add the amount of muscle they desire).

Miller was injured and does not have full lateral ability back, so it makes sense to move him inside and let Givens take the outside. If Miller had not been hurt I doubt that Givens would be on the outside as Miller was established there. Or maybe Givens has great lateral movement against the rush and would have made it there anyway. But I vote for the former.

It says to me just what DH said - he wants the best players on the field and Miller has some OG experience.

I wrote a few months back that Miller might move to guard and got flack for such an absurd opinion. My hypothesis was that he is a stud run-blocker & has good ability to pull. His weakness has been taking on the speed rush on the outside. In the Big12, the DE's are getting smaller and more athletic to combat the spread.

The biggest reason I heard here that Miller couldn't play guard was that he's too tall at 6'7+. There is plenty of precedence in the NFL to contradict that. If the only reason we have for him not to play guard is because he's too big and powerful, let me be the first to say thank you God!

Watching Givens in the All-American game showed that he was highly skilled at pass blocking and was A++ in agility (but very undersized).

Sione Tau has also moved to guard for now. He's the biggest dude on the team in girth, but might also have trouble with the 6'1, 235 pound speed rushers.

Road Graters?

I don't think Hawk is even suggesting that Givens can beat our Miller. I think he's stating that having Givens/Solder/Miller all on the field at the same time would make them better and he flat-out said Miller could move inside easier than Givens.

Lastly, I think if MTM can somehow recover that fast (how?) - AND be healthy, that he is a monster in the making.

I will reiterate what I said at the end of the season - that it could be very difficult (if everyone is healthy) for guys who started a lot of games last year to be starters this year. This will make for competition and depth, something we haven't seen in several years.
