Bob Foster, Dan Hawkins’ coach when he played at UC-Davis, addressed the team Friday. Hawkins said only “coach stuff” when asked what Foster told the Buffs. ... There were 65 plays from scrimmage Friday, plus 20 punts. Kicker Aric Goodman hit four of seven field goals. ... Practices resume Monday and remain closed to the public. The spring game will be open to fans and is scheduled for next Saturday at Folsom Field.

That cannot be good. Are we going to be seeing Grossnickle sooner rather than later?

The stat sheet is full of errors... it's not clear if Goodman made 4/6 or 4/7. It looks to be 4/7 with his misses all being wide left from 32, 33, and 33 yards out. It also says he was 0/1 on PATs which is inconsistent with the scoring summary at the top

They can't exactly blame fans posting on the internet. Time to ban stats and facts altogether.

the stats at CUbuffs show TWO missed PATs, but doesn't explain who kicked the second one. A walk-on maybe? Have those guys participated at all in scrimmages?

missing 3 kicks from inside of 35 yards in a perfect indoor climate???? ugh....definately will see Grossnickle out there with performances like that

What's the name of the other kid? The Morman kid who's supposed sister posted hear? What's up with him?

Jameson Davis, kickoff specialist.

He had knee surgery in January, he's expected to be back, but is not participating in spring ball.

We can't be missing critical FG's during the course of the game. I think there were several times last year goodman missed FG's from close range that could have made the differance between wheather they could have become bowl eligable. Personally I think they should be giving Grossnickle a shot at kicking from close range.

not only that, re: critical FG's, Hawk is enough of a wild card in go for it/kick the FG position versus the conventional wisdom....inserting another unstable variable (an inconsistent kicker) in the mix is not an optimal situation IMO.

which is to say: if Hawk is gonna get up on the Riverboat and gamble, i want to him to know what cards he's got to play knowing he's got a deece % if he lines up and kicks it.

Shiniest possible silver lining I can think of.

Goodman was "money" in practice last year and missed quite a few FG in games.

Now he's missing a few kicks in practice.

Maybe he's going to be spectacular in games.

When it matters.

Genius!!

come on Mooseknuckle!!!! i think the new kid will start, since he doesnt have much in the way of competition.

One of our good family friends walked on and, I think, was given a spot. I don't know if he is a better place kicker or punter.

Moosenuckle...

FWIW, the East fans I've talked to are rooting for Goodman to come out of last year's slump, so Grossnickle can redshirt until DiLallo graduates, then do four years of punting. But it's all wait and see at this point.

Here's some trivia. I heard Grossnickle's nicknames in highschool were:
IceNickle, Iceman and Soccer Buddy. I always thought IceNickle had a ring to it.

The football team named him "Soccer buddy" because he was always coming from soccer practice straight to football, and later Iceman/IceNickle because he was unflappable and totally focused on kicking, i.e. ice in his veins. Also (I'm guessing there's a connection here) maybe because he used to be a hockey goalie before he switched to football as his second sport.

Midway through his senior season, they started calling him Football Man instead of Soccer Buddy. I would suppose in the eyes of 17-year-old teammates, that was a high compliment.

Not sure if I can imbed this video here, but I'll try:

They switched his name from Soccer Buddy to Football Man because he gave up his very public habit of ****ing sheep.

How about "Buffalo Head Nickle?"

I've been keeping my eyes open for any news of the two walk-on kickers, but haven't seen much since Ringo's (I think it was his) article. I don't know if they are participating much in spring ball, but it could be that the focus is all about getting Goodman back into his groove.

Maybe we'll hear about them during the summer. Having some additional kickers can't hurt at all.
