How big of a concern is this for you? Is Goodman going to rebound? Who are the returners? Will we see Grossnickle sooner rather than later?

I think Goodman's a headcase, as evidenced by his great practice performances followed by choking in games.

I think we'll see Davis or Grossnickle kicking FGs and PATs.

I'd love to keep seeing Josh back on returns, but only if he has learned to take care of the ball. Otherwise, give me someone less explosive who won't fumble.

Before Polk switched positions I wanted Speedy back returning Kicks... but since we thinned the depth somewhat at RB, I am not as sure.

If I'm not mistaken, Josh really settled down as the year went on with his taking care of the ball on special teams. Plus, that CSU TD return was setup by his fumbling the ball around on the ground. :smile2:

doesnt davis have some sort of career ending arthritic condition in his knee?

why not put polk back there hes got running back speed and the power of a hard hitting safety(i hope)

bad special teams play have probably cost the Buffs 5-6 wins total over the 3 years that hawkins has been here, imho.

so, put me down as concerned.

Two concerns, one is kickoff coverage and fg's. I don't care how people kick in practice, you have to do it in the game. Whether it's grossnickle or golden shoes, we need a fg kicker to actually make fg's.

Official word was Davis had knee surgery in January. Not his first.
He was on crutches a while, but was off them for at least one practice, standing on sideline.
And he expects to be participating this fall.

No "career-ending" anything announced, every reason to believe he'll be back.

Earlier, I thought money would turn it around and be kicking for us this fall. But judging from what I've heard we've been seeing (two degrees of sensory separation), I'm not so sure. I'm hoping for a Moose stampede.

Think positively.

If Ray Polk want's to return kicks let him, the young man has the speed and we need to get him on the field.

I like Josh Smith as a return guy and I think the fumbling will be minimized this year. The thing I hope he has corrected is trying to return punts from inside the 10 (or five as was the case a few times last year). That **** has to stop.

:yeahthat: I have always like the twin return format. I think it gives you two talented returners and it allows for one returner to cover the initial hit better while the other concentrates on handling the ball. Sometimes that first block is the one that can make start a great return.

and that why you use someone who can take hits as well as give them which ray polk as a RB could take and give as a S

Goodman's misses last year weren't "chokes." In almost every case he hit the ball well, it just didn't go through. I have no doubt that it got in his head, but I take exception to the "choke" label. Do you play golf? If you do, you know there is a difference between a swing you make where you are nervous as hell and one that you hit well but just miss the fairway. Miss the fairway enough and you start to wonder if you'll ever hit it again. But "choke" swings are obvious in that you hit it in the heel, or flare it off the toe, or top it, or chunk it.

As for J-Fly I think that having his shoulders healthy will go a long way toward making him a safe bet to return kicks. He's going to need to clear the demons in his head that cause him to do things like tippy toe around the goal line, but I think his effectiveness as a return guy (and as a WR) were SEVERELY hampered last year by his shoulder problems. I think he showed a lot of heart and grit to keep after it, knowing that he was one of the only gamebreakers we had.

I think there are problems with both your points. First, I don't care if its a choke or not, when you miss more fg than you make, you've got a serious problem. And second, you can't tie Smith's bad decision making to his shoulders. As I understand it, his shoulders got worse as the season progressed. His decision making and fumbling might actually have gotten better as the season progressed.
