Can we please get a blue chip QB?

I know they're giving Spond a chance to start out his career at QB, but we really need another guy who is a true blue chip recruit at QB IMO. The coaches have dropped the ball in recruiting that position. The excuses that have been there the past few seasons are not there anymore. Get it done coaches!

The kid who decommitted to CU this year and signed with Utah (Jordan Wynn), entered school in January, and is evidently putting up a good case to be considered in the mix for the starting job in the fall.... 4 year starter?

I have a feeling that one will be a "what could have been" type situation in a few years.

If you repent now, Clark Evans might let you live....

We don't need to get a 4* or 5* to get a good QB

Blue chip by whose standards???
The prevailing mentality on this board from what I've read is that stars are basically meaningless.

Do we need to get a better QB than the ones we have??
I think so, but what standard do we use to measure which better QB we should pursue?

Who gives a damn what kind of chip he is? Somebody that can get it done 5 stars or no stars is fine by me.

After cody throws for 25 TDs and 3000 Yds this year we won't have a problem getting a blue chipper :smile2:

I agree with you Luke. But Hawk does need a heralded QB to run this offense. It would settle the masses more than anything imo. Probably be a big boost for recruiting. It's all politics these days.

Pony McCoy was a 3*

As was Bradford, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Reesing and Chase Daniel. Get a great QB coach and we'll be fine. Run the ball better and we'll be fine. We need to develop and recruit better talent, but very few QBs would have won more than 8 games last year given the lack of a running game, lack of playmakers at WR and with our patchwork OL.

How many scholarship WRs do we have on the roster now? That's where the coaching staff has really faltered, IMO.

Besides, it seems like most 5* QBs flame out. The position is too different going from HS to CFB where athleticism isn't the only thing that will win you games.

I want us to develop depth at QB as well since 2 scholarship QBs is only asking for a disaster. If we brought in a blue chip QB the next 2 years, but they didn't have a realistic shot until they were groomed and ready only then would I say we are in a good position to battle for the Big 12 every year.

remember jay cutler never went to a bowl game at vandy... its not all about the QB.

IMO....it needs to start with the WR at depth and talent, and once little Hawk is gone the talent at the QB level will follow. What is the word on Josh Molten, I had read that he was very impressive on the 7 on 7 drills in Las Vages at the QB camp......GO BUFFS!!!!!

We just need to start winning...then, everything else will fall into place....the top recruits, the alumni support, Top 10 finishes...then, your head coach splits (or retires....) and you are faced with rebuilding for the next 15 years......

It's not because of lack of trying. The last couple QB's we had #1 we were the first loser for. Crissman (fUCLA), Landry Jones (OU), Briehaut (fUCLA). We've been really close. Horseshoes and hand grenades I suppose

Make sure he's taller than 5-10. I think BB is saying get a kid no matter the stars to be a blue-chip here.

It does not have to be a five-star guy or even a four-star guy, but valdez is right. Perception matters here IMO. I don't think anyone can say they're thrilled with the QB recruiting that has occurred under Hawkins. I realize it is a difficult position to project to the next level, but I would certainly be feeling better with a guy like Landry Jones on the roster.

Yep, plenty of qb's out there to be had. Got to make an impression early.

I don't know if Hinder meets your qualifications, but I thought this was funny, from Scout's assessment of him. So, I guess he has hygiene issues...

"Hinder is more of a traditional pocket passer but does shows the ability to flea the pocket when protection breaks down. Shows good mechanics; keeps the ball up and shoulders square to the LOS."

We got Clark Evans, and we have Moten on board, and Slota and Lobato as backups.
We have Danny Spond coming in next year.
We might have Hinder ... you never know.

I'm not frantic over QBs at the moment. Seems like recruiting has improved in that area.

good catch. rep.

I like Evans. I think he has a lot of potential. I think Moten ultimately ends up at another position. Slota and Labato are walk-ons. Numbers alone do not mean our QB situation is solid.

I think the jury is still out on Spond as a QB as well. I doubt he is the only QB taken in the class.

The QB recruiting is directly affecting the recruiting of other skill positions. Something has to change.

Just seems like we are ahead of the curve compared to recent years.

Then again, it's late and I'm delusional.

I like the Derby kid from Iowa.
Got kind of a Roethlisberger look to him (Too bad Hawk isn't looking at him)

I can see him with another 20 pounds of muscle and the wheels he has lining up in the backfield with a stout Buff line averaging 6' 5" 310# and a blue chip back to help punish the defense.

Defenses just weren't afraid of us last year. That's one of the biggest things I'm hoping to see change this year.
