Guy hasn't played a down of football for CU, and I think he may be one of my favorite players. He hasn't gotten in any trouble, he accepted a change in position with no hesitation or griping, has done everything expected of him, and is performing in the classroom (at least we think so, it's not like we get their transcripts).

I can't wait to see what he does once he hits the field this Fall.

The kid is such a great athlete, I bet he could even do pretty well at wideout... I hope we at least see him carry the rock on KO returns.

He was the one who suggested the position change. Gotta love it. Finally we'll have elite speed roaming the field at safety.

I have high hopes for Mr. Polk. Thought he was a steal when we got him over ASU. Hope he is healthy for the season.

I would personally rather see him at RB or even given a shot at wideout. I think those positions have a greater potential to be impact positions than safety. However, he wanted to play safety and we have a bunch of rb's so... it makes sense. I guess.

I'm going to scream loud and often when Ray Ray makes a big play in whatever role he takes. I hope to see a lot of him in 2009. Maybe he starts right away at safety, although he has competition with more seasoned players.

If that´s all it takes to become a favorite player of someone these days (highly ranked recruit, not played a down, no bitching or scandals to speak of), things aren´t looking too good, unfortunately ...

oh, hell....

My kid has hung out with him a bit. Says he's a really cool kid. For what it's worth.

Haven't you ever fallen head over heels for a woman before you'd even met her?

It´s neither a knock on Polk nor on Sacky, but I call it as I see it and when you can become someone´s favorite player these days by merely being a highly ranked recruit who yet has to get into trouble and who volunteered for a position change to help the team before he´s even played a down, that somewhat tells me the cup board is somewhat bare.

Please excuse me for not being overly optimistic about the 2009 season after what has happened in the past few weeks.

First off, what has happened in the past few weeks is not all that awful. It's the same kind of thing that happens in a lot of places. Other than J-Fly, the attrition is from guys who more than likely wouldn't be starters. I'll be the first to admit that I think the J-Fly situation stinks, but it's not the end of the world. Michigan just lost their version of J-Fly, and he's coming here. No that won't help this year, but still.

Secondly, the reasoning behind the original post was that Polk is a guy who gets overlooked in the grand scheme of things. With all the stuff that has gone on, which you rightly point out, he's been a great example of a guy who COULD get pissed off and decide to leave, but he hasn't. I respect that a lot. I'm looking forward to seeing what he is able to do on the field.

Ryan Wallace had every chance to be a starter within a couple of years.

I agree and I understand the thought behind your post, well done on that, but I just used this thread to voice the concerns I have right now and with all due respect to Dan Hawkins, but I used to have way more faith in him than I do have now. To me, things just don´t seem right at the moment.

You probably weren't much of a CU fan back in the late 80's, early 90's, but Mac had these kinds of issues every year - without fail. It was actually worse then than what we're seeing now. Academic problems, legal issues, guys not getting playing time and transferring. Do you guys remember that Charles Johnson actually quit the football team? Look it up. He said he wanted to concentrate on his studies. Can't blame him for it, but that's what he did. Left the team with Hagan and... um... pretty much nobody at QB.

I remember standing in line for student tickets outside the Foam Dome in the summer of 1991 and seeing Charles Johnson standing there. One of the girls I was with knew him, and asked him if he was looking forward to defending the title -- he said he wasn't playing anymore. When we asked him why he said "I went out on top."

I don't remember McCartney having a ton of players leave voluntarily -- I DO remember McCartney had to kick about 3 or 4 players off the squad every off season, it seemed.

I seem to recall that McCartney lost about 2 coaches every single year for about 5 or 6 years, tho. He lost his offensive coordinator almost every year from about 1988 - 1994.
