The ducks offer a class in "rap"..? Is that when a dentist gold plates your grill? :brick:

Ok...
I'm tired of this.
The major cannot possibly be hip-hop or rap. It must have to do with some sort of music production that jfly is interested in.

If we are going to go on and on about this, we may as well be reasonable.

You are correct. josh wants to major in Music Production and not Performance or Composition. Perfectly reasonable. I think he's making a mistake, he can always get a masters in production after he gets a BA in Performance, but its not my life and hence not my call.

:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:

This is hilarious - they have morphed Josh and Darrell into one athlete:

"Hang on Duck fans. Hang on. IF Scott were to show up he'd immediately become their punt returner and a likely starter at WR in '10. If Scott showed up, he would instantly answer the Thunder part of Oregon's running game. He'll remind you of Eric Dickerson or Adrian Peterson more than Jonathan Stewart in his running style. But having seen Scott's game recently, there's almost no question he's going to be an NFL back if he keeps developing and isn't injured. Almost none."

Buffs and J. Smith

"Almost as soon as the story came out that CU officials would not immediately grant a blanket scholarship release to Josh Smith, I started to get e-mails and phone calls berating CU for its decision.
My take? Can’t blame them. CU on good faith invested two years and thousands and thousands of dollars on Josh Smith’s education. CU gave him every opportunity available to further his football career and enhance his pursuit of a college degree. He was awarded a scholarship when plenty of other D-I schools were not ready to take a chance on him, and he was awarded a starting job and given ample opportunity to display his skills.
I don’t blame Smith for wanting to leave. Kids change their mind. Kids decide they want to follow another path. Guaranteed, lots of us changed our minds at that age. I love to see a kid follow his heart, and evidently, his heart is filled as much with music as it is football.
But that doesn’t mean CU has to necessarily reward him for changing his mind. Josh is free to go anywhere to any school and pursue any degree he chooses.
But CU is also quietly setting a standard that other schools around the nation have set or will soon be setting. In a day and age when kids transfer on a whim, schools are saying those kids won’t be rewarded for their change of heart — particularly after they’ve invested lots of time and money.
Josh Smith wasn’t treated unfairly in his time at Colorado. Neither is CU treating him unfairly upon what appears to be his departure.
CU simply isn’t going to reward him for changing his mind."

Couldn't agree more.

"Reward" was mentioned three times in that passage. I fail to see how allowing him to transfer to more than one school would be a reward. The AD's handling of this matter is punitive in every sense. Not punishing does not equal rewarding. As to whether the punishment is warranted, I will reserve judgment until more facts come out.

Adults who sign contracts should honor them or be "rewarded" with some form of punishment. That's true whether you are Josh Smith or he-who-shall-remain-nameless-so-my-ass-can-heal.

It is a test of his level of commitment.

He's Colorado's best deep threat, a phenomenal, not a good, but a phenomenal punt returner...No no, Smith is the most proven receiver they've got and one of the nation's best punt returners.

What a ****ing Douche...

a) correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't you consider "phenomenal" to be better than "good"? I would much rather have a "phenomenal" WR than a "good" WR!

b) WTF? Get your poop in a group, man! 292 PR yards last season vs 1276 KR yards and you define him as a PR!? And, One of the nations top PRs?

I can't believe anybody in Oregon actually reads this **** let alone gives it any value whatsoever.

and this gem.

" no passing game to take the heat off him this year. Or next. Or the year after for that matter."

Guess what guy, you hired our offensive coordinator.

A). I think he is saying that Smith is phenomenal, not just good, or merely good, but absolutely phenomenal. But year, as a KR, not a PR.

I am kinda siding on Bohns side at this point. The kids wanting to transfer gets bigger every year as they are losing the desire to commit long term to a school. Being wishy-washy is becoming more mainstream and acceptable, and I think schools are trying to stem that flow before it becomes a torrent. Is it because of the new rules that can take away schollies? It think that has alot to do with it personally. And I think Bohn is trying to say that 'if this is what you want, here is the chance to go get it. If you are giving us a bunch of BS, then stay and play.'

I think the NCAA needs to get involved and make it near impossible for a player to transfer to another D1 school under less than extraordinary cricumstances (ie...serious family issues, serious adjustment issues, a drastic program overhaul/coaching turnover, etc). it has too much of an effect on the overall program planning and logistics. Also, it will put some much needed weight to the decision on signing day...You sign, you stay; you work hard, you play.

What is the NCAA rule on transfers?

If you are released from your scholarship - you are allowed to transfer to another school, but have to sit out a year - right? In Josh Smith's case, he could just sit out and redshirt, as he has 3 years to play 2.

But what if your old school won't release you? Are you not allowed to play anywhere else if your original school won't release you? Is it a 2-year waiting period?

I'd be fine with that if coaches don't have the option of not renewing a scholarship. That way it's more "even."

he just can't play anywhere on scholarship for a year

I see. So if he is released from his scholarship at CU - he can immediately go on scholarship someplace else, even if he doesn't get to play. I.e. he could get his tuition, room and board, etc. - just the same as all the other football players- he just can't actually play ball. (He can practice - but not play)

But if he is not released from his scholarship at CU - he cannot be placed on scholarship anywhere else for one year. So whatever school he picked, he would have to pay his own way for one year, and he couldn't play ball.

Do I have that right?

If he transfers to another D1 school and is released, he can go on scholarship with and practice with the other school...just needs to sit the first year which still counts as a year of eligibilty unless he has a RS year.

If he is not released, he can still be on any team, still has to sit a year, still counts as a year of eligibility, but has to pay at that school for at least the first year or until he earns a scholarship (same as a walk-on).

**** Oregon. And **** this dumbass blogger.

****heads like this are the reason Hawk and many other college coaches HATE the intrawebs. Recruiting off other teams rosters is wrong, mmmmkay????

I'd really love to leave a comment mentioning that this:

Oregon offered Scott. He was very interested for a stretch. Oregon needs a running back that and has a spot for him in '10. It's a perfect fit. It's a fair question to ask.

could just as easily say this....

Colorado offered Diante Jackson. He was committed for a stretch. Colorado needs a wide receiver and has a spot for him in '10. It's a perfect fit. It's a fair question to ask.

... but signing up with their little site just to do it doesn't seem to be worth the trouble...

And using the intrawebs to try to get a player to transfer from another school would be a douchy thing to do, so I won't do that....
