Seems like with the departure of J-Fly, we're putting a lot of our hopes on his both qualifying and contributing in a significant way this year. Can somebody who knows this stuff tell me what kind of player he was in high school and at the Juco? Realistically, what can we expect from him?

36 TD's, and Bilentikof award his first year here. His amazing catches will make Cody Hawkins edge out Braford, Tebo and McCoy for the Heisman. The guy is sick, I tell ya sick!:lol:

Seriously, I don't know, all I know is he was considered one of the best WR's in the Juco's. Boulder Buff or Valdez would have better info for you.

Well, if he makes it in (and it is looking good), he will not be here until August. I expect him to slowly get adjusted and ready to be a major part of the passing game by conference play. The guy is a playmaker, 40-45 catches would be a nice season for him IMO. I think he has the potential to be our best threat in the red zone because of his size.

We are pinning a lot of hopes on a guy who turned down Kansas State to join the Buffs. Don't get me wrong, he looks like he could contribute but I think we are being a bit unrealistic about this guy right now. Rivals shows he had two offers total. How did they rate him 4-stars? That remains a mystery that 2 offers equated to 4 stars. Arkansas was supposedly interested but no visit materialized. Anyone else got some thoughts here? No matter how I slice this one, it looks like a prospect, but certainly not a "can't miss" guy.

Add in that he will miss the summer sessions and I am looking at any contribution from Simmons as GRAVY. Nobody I know has seen any of these new WR's play, so it's conjecture at this point. But count me as a guy who's hoping for the best but I would not bank on a big contribution from Simmons. Please Andre, prove me wrong.

Ussery has to be a huge contributor. He's smart. He's been around the pro-athlete for years. He's conditioned. He's on campus. He's working out with the vets. I am hoping like hell that he's not the normal wide-eyed freshmen and instead steps right in there and takes it to them.

It's true that we really don't know how this will turn out, however, I admire the fact that he chose to travel the more difficult road (ala, Mohler). In that aspect, I'm rooting for him. It will be a real accomplishment to make it to CU - I hope he sees it through and earns a degree.

It's been a rollercoaster ride with JC's, but it's high risk/high reward. He's already acclimated to college life and a game that's bigger/faster/tougher than HS. He should be able to contribute this year - I guess we'll see.

Count me as another who's really intrigued by Ussery. He has the measurables and comes from a (hs) football-crazy state. I too don't think he'll be intimidated by college life, the speed of the game, etc, etc.

Good gawd, how many more days before fall camp?

Well, Simon was not expected to be a qualifier, but then he got his head on straight and got it all together, unexpectantly becoming a late D1 prospect.

Then he "let's up" in the end? WTF?

No benefits of the doubt here buddy. Pick it up. This is no way to get it started and if you are struggling to "stay focused" in high school, you are going to be sadly surprised in college.

Simon scares me as he wasn't dedicated until this year to academics, working out or football practice. Unless he has had the "change of total attitude" he talked about earlier, he has no chance of ever playing D1 football. I'm pulling for him, but he's got to do it and I think this is a serious step backwards and I'm sure Hawk is not amused.

By the way, freshmen who are not here on June 1 due to matters within their control, are sending a clear message to the staff. This is NOT the way you kick it off here (or anywhere). Not recommended.

Where are you getting your info on Simon? He's listed on the CU chart (linked in the frosh #'s thread). What gives?

What in the world are you talking about? The only players not here are the California kids, who have not had their HS graduation.

Who the hell is "Simon?"

Who the hell is "Simon?"
Glad to see I'm not the only one confused. This thread is/has been about WR Simmons. So is this Simon a mis-spelled Simmons or did someone new get stuck in this thread?

Pretty sure he meant "Simmons." I just wanted to give him a hard time because that is how I roll.

Not so fast on both

That is a worthless post.

Can we clear some things up?

1)Simmons is not in Boulder yet, right?
2)Simmons is on track to qualify, right?
3)Who is Shaun Simon?
4)Where is Shaun Simon?
5)What is Shaun Simon's deal?

Thanks.

Reading between the lines, it would appear that perhaps Shaun Simon is one of the people Slider was referring to when he was speculating about incoming freshmen academic issues.

My post was about Simon. In Ringo's buffzone blog he reported that a source told him the staff was confident about Andre Simmons qualifying:thumbsup: As I am aware:

1. No
2. Yes, according to Ringo
3. Shaun Simon
4. Back home in Tulsa
5. Sounds like everything is getting cleared up. I'm not worrying on this one

It is pretty standard that people think certain incoming players are the saviors now as opposed to 2 years down the road. Incoming players should generally be expected to re-stock by thier Junior years and not be at top of depth chart as underclassmen. Granted a JC guy should move much faster, but it is a lack of quality depth that will force his hand earlier than should be expected.

Never know how he will adjust to CU, but there are a lot of reasons to be positive.

Normally if a guy were to get two offers (from CU and KSU) he would be a 2 star, maybe 3. One could speculate that if he got a few offers from elite schools that he'd be a 5 star WR. I think we got a major diamond in the rough here with Simmons. I've never wanted to do someone else's homework more than I do with this guy.

I agree with you about Ussery, I think he'll be a quick contributor. My guess is he'll rank 4th among WRs in catches.

How big of a contributor is 4th among WR in catches at CU...? I think in recent years that would actually correlate to a player who didn't have much, if any, impact on our season. Not to nitpick here but if the best that our most productive new WR can put out is 4th in WR catches then I think we are in for a long season in the passing game again.

one would assume mcknight, simas, and hopefully simmons would have more catches than him. if he beats any of those three out, well that would be fantastic.

Simmons still has 3 classes to finish this summer and won't be joining the team until mid to late July. He completed 6 during the Spring and sounds like he did well in all of them. He also says he picks up playbooks very fast and is 100% confident he'll not only qualify, but that he'll contribute right away.

Shaun Simon is the center recruit from Tulsa. He was a 2 star and the biggest thing that kept his ranking down was his grades. He recently came out and said he slacked off towards the end of the semester. Apparently he is pretty worried as there has been a hold up with his transcript. He is not in Boulder.

I'll see if I can help...."Go play intramurals, brother. Go play intramurals."

Gotta be case by case, especially the 3-sport guys. Would be tough to finish high school and jump fulltime into college football without a breather.

Hope the coaches cut them a little slack the first year.
