75 days

Only about 45 more days until the buffhater.......*cough*..*cough*...lamb fans come out from their rocks and tell us how CSU owns Colorado and CU fans and players are pot smoking hippie rapists that suck and they are gonna kick our ass.

And another 76 more days until those fans go back to cheering for Nebraska and anything and everything playing CU.

And stop caring about their own team.

One of 'em's early this year: http://www.allbuffs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36113

I will be at every CSU home game and a couple of road games this year thank you very much.

Honestly, I don't view the CU game as the biggest game on CSU's schedule this season. Utah at home on Oct. 10 is the game I think many CSU fans are pointing to as the game of the year this season.

or any other team that you actually have a chance at beating

or because it is a program coming off a Top 5 finish in the polls last season and looks to be a Top 15 team coming into 2009. TCU and Utah could be the highest rated football teams to play at any stadiums in Colorado this year.

I see at least six losses on the Lamb schedule...CU (GO BUFFFS!), Utah, BYU, TCU, AFA, Nevada.

Won't get much argument from me on that, except maybe Nevada. Three of those losses will likely come at the hands of Top25 teams. I have said before, that I think CSU will take a small step back this season. I just don't see the bottom dropping out of the program like it did in Sonny's last couple of years. Fairchild seems to be the right fit. It's just going to take a couple of seasons for him to get his guys. Then we'll have a better sense as to where the program is headed.

Seriously, I am impressed with Fairchild so far. The problem CSU has is that if he sustains even a modicum of success, he'll be gone to a BCS gig. Sonny was a perfect fit in that regard, a little too old to draw an invite to a better gig, but still had enough in the tank to build a decent program. The 98-02 run was pretty good, but I honestly doubt CSU will get to that level again.

I doubt CU will ever be the player it was on the national scene during the 89-95 run. I hope they will but it will be awful tough to do that in today's B12.

Amazing, a CSU fan who actually cares about your own conference rivals. :wow:You're definitely in the minority as far as CSU fans are concerned.

Wait a minute. Are you saying CSU plays more than one game a year??? :wow: Have you made your fellow CSU fan aware of this fact????

I wouldn't exactly say that I am in the minority on this view. When the program was hot in the late 1990's and early 2000's there is no question that the CU game was a very important game that CSU needed to win. I would argue though that it wasn't because CU was the only game that mattered to fans. During that stretch, CU was one game in seasons full of important games. A lot of the discussion coming in to those years focused on whether CSU could finally go undefeated and bust the BCS. This made every game (including the CU game) important and I think that attendance at Hughes reflected that during those years.

Recently, I admit that I think as CSU's success has faded, the CU game has taken on an out of proportion importance to casual fans. Even so, I don't think this is far different from other in-state rivalry games. Ask the casual Iowa State fan if they would rather beat Iowa in any given season and lose to the Buffs and I think you would find that many would take a win over the Hawkeyes every year regardless of it's effect on their conference standing.

Presently, I think there are many CSU fans that realize that the way back to becoming relevant again is to become more competitive in a very strong conference. 3 teams in the MWC will likely be ranked in the Top 25 to start the year (BYU, Utah, TCU). To me, beating one of those three in conference would do more to propel the program forward in the short term because of the recent success and strength of those programs than an OOC win in Boulder.

Utah and tcu lost a TON of starters, they won't be there very long. Other than BYU, the mwc won't be near as strong as last year. TCU seems to replenish better than the others, what's the story on them for 2009?

SI has TCU as a post-spring #11. They look really strong again this year. They return 10 starters overall, but at key positions on offense: QB, RB, WR, T. On defense, they return one of the best players in the country, Jerry Hughes. A projected Top 15 pick. Toughest games come in conference @BYU and home with Utah. Game @Clemson could be tricky. Not a stretch to think they could bust the BCS this season.
