Seems like indication were getting to Boise State level. Being exceptional is not considered exceptional; its becoming the norm. IE, players are coming in with a blue-collar attitude. I'm of the opinion for players to perform well on the field, they need to minimize off-field distraction Some might point to Miami's and Florida States success of contradicting the importance of academics. IE, these were teams that had a bunch of thugs that won big. But it seems to have long term success, ie boise state's decade long dominance, this type of stuff is incredibly important. Furthermore, If I'm a parent of a star recruit, you best be sure this is the type of stuff I look into knowing that the shots of getting into the NFL are slim next to none for my kid.

I am all for positive stuff coming out of Boulder... but unless you win it doesn't matter if the whole team is filled with rhodes scholars, your fired. no wins= no attendance= no money.

I agree to a point, however if the whole country looked upon CU as having a winning team who was only capable of doing so with a team made up of thugs/convicts and commiting NCAA violations, I think I'd take the Rhodes Scholars.

Hmmm, This might be a good polling question for any school whose football program has struggled like our Buffs have recently?

i think that the media, the boulder community, and recruits parents would not stand for cu to take less than the high road, given the media sensation that hit cu like a maelstrom.

that being what it is, i find it dickish to not simply say "good job kids" when they do good and shut it with the incessant boo-hooery with respect to record.

it is almost like a lot of people NEED the buffs to fill the "champ" void in their soul.

Time will tell, but I think a CU coach who went .500 every year, and had model citizen athletes on and off the field, as well as in the classroom - could probably coach at CU for as long as he wanted.

CU's attendance has been pretty much consistent for the past 20 years. Good attendance for the marque games. Average attendance at best for everyone else. Even when CU was ranked in the top 5 the crowds were horrible for the below-average schools.

CU's athletic department depends on television revenue now.

The problem Hawk had when he came in was the perception of CU as a bunch of thugs, drunks, cheaters, etc - on top of that, they weren't good on the field (2001 aside). Worst of both worlds.

If I had recieved my degree from them in Florida, then yes. But the name "Florida Buffalos" has absolutely no ring or inspiration to it. :smile2:

I don't think many Buff fans have really bought into Hawk's "10 wins no excuses" mantra. It's great that he set the bar high but after three consective losing seasons (one bowl game), a 7-5 or 8-4 record would be a great thing. Yes, I did attend all the home games in 1990 with my father who was going to CU (we sat in the student section and I remember beer being thrown everyone when I was 10) and enjoyed the success of the 1990's, but at this point, a winning record plus a bowl game would do.

I wouldn't say our attendance for any game has ever really been horrible. Below-average schools have pretty much seen crowds in the 40-48 K range amd that isn't horrible. What is horrible is when CSU seats about 15K in a 30 K stadium, thats horrible.
