ESPN Eval:

September, 2008: Panzor had an up-and-down summer, but at this event (2008 Fullcourt Press Fall Hoops Classic) he displayed all the skills and upside that make him such an intriguing prospect for the next level. At his size there may not be another 4-man around the country that can shoot like him. His release is textbook and he has range out to 23 feet. He is very good at spotting up for his shot and he is far from selfish. In addition to his prolific shooting stroke, he is quite bouncy around the rim as he had a number of outstanding finishes around the basket. He still needs to get stronger and much tougher around the basket, but he still has two years left before he reaches the next level. He is an excellent passer, especially in the half-court set, but his ballhandling is shaky when defenders get into him. Panzor should be an excellent fit in a motion style offense where he could come off of screens and shoot or he could be lethal in a pick-n-pop situation.

Honeycutt showcases Austin Daye-type skills at Bay Area tourney

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The 7th Annual Patrick Dennehy Memorial Rumble in the Bay didn't have an abundance of talent, but it's always a worthwhile stop on the recruiting circuit. This year's event, like many before it, served as a coming-out party for unknown commodities -- 6-foot-9 junior Eric Hutchinson (Kalama, Wash./ Mark Morris) comes immediately to mind -- and young standouts, like 6-foot freshman Josiah Turner (Rancho Cordova, Calif./ Cordova) who made a lasting impression among scouts and fans alike.

Standout Players

Kevin Panzer (6-8, 190)
Sophomore, San Juan Capistrano, Calif./ Capistrano Valley

I originally listed Panzer under the surprise category, but after a couple of games, I quickly came to the conclusion he was one of the top overall prospects in the event. Panzer is a young thoroughbred who is just beginning to realize his vast potential. He is already one of the most prolific shooters on the West Coast and his passing ability is impressive. He gets his shot off quickly and his release is tight. He still needs to develop his back-to-the-basket game, but with added strength and coaching that should come shortly. Overall, he's a high-major prospect at the 4.

Re: '10 CA PF Kevin Panzer

Only offers are still Colorado and San Diego. Unless someone else comes in with an offer (Gonzaga?), you've got to like our chances of landing Panzer if he's committing next month as planned.

It's hard to tell with the lack of news on MBB recruiting from the sites. Ringo promised to step it up, but never did. And I think Adam has his hands full with the football stuff on Rivals(No disrespect intended to AM).

Re: '10 CA PF Kevin Panzer

I'm going to post something on Scout. The best way for Ringo to really differentiate that site is to have more content on recruiting in MBB and other CU varsity sports.

Me(Buff81) and OkieBuff seem to be the only ones interested in MBB.

Re: '10 CA PF Kevin Panzer

Panzer has de-committed from Penn.

Looks like it's going to be either Colorado or Gonzaga.

This is really good news. Panzer's an excellent shooter who can jump. He'd be a great fit at CU.

Re: '10 CA PF Kevin Panzer

Here's a photo that's a bit more recent. He's still skinny, but you can tell he's matured quite a bit:

I'd kind of forgotten about Panzer. He recently picked up a Nevada offer. Word is he's still hoping for a Pac 10 schollie. Maybe CU is a Pac offer after all?

Here are some YouTube highlights of his 2010 season. Panzer's got a sweet jumper and can get up in the air. Not too bad of a handle for a 6'9" guy. He'll need to bulk up if he's going to play CU's schedule, though.
