Top 4 Running Backs Ever At C.U.

Ahhh, the good ol' days!

1. Salaam
2. Bieniemy
3. Brown
4. Purify

I wasn't able to see Bobby Anderson, but from what my father would tell me, the man was an absolute star. A great QB, then a great RB for the Buffs.

I'd like to see some highlight tapes of him in action.
 
Tony Reed is on the short list. a JUCO for Mallory and the feature back for the 76 Orange Bowl team in a very "run first" era of Big 8 football. played 2 years at CU and 5 years in the NFL. rushed for 1000+ yards for the KC Chiefs in 78.

Do a little research on these guys and you will find that White and Anderson hardly even receive mention for the most part, especially White. I know that White is a legend at C.U. so I was very surprised that he didn't make many lists. I voted for Bieniemy #1 hands down, I don't see any other competition.
 
Salaam has to be first with that hardware ... though I suppose White could trump him. Salaam #2 at the worst.

Just scanned the record book, can't find White or Anderson even once ....

Ended in a tie, but that Koy Boy, what a kid rock star he was that day ...

i think the top 4 are pretty much irrefutable for long time fans of the Buffs--- white, eb, salaam, anderson... the order, on the other hand is debatable and a case can be made for your pov for sure.

i hate to leave out chris brown. he'd probably be 5th.

People forget how close Brown was to becoming our second 2,000 yard rusher. He was on pace with like 3 games left and he goes down with an injury!:sad1:

He was a good one, but would not have had the yards and moments he did if EB had not broken his leg in '89. Eb going down made a great opportunity for JJ to have a great senior season. Man that guy was fast!:wow:

It is no accident he got hurt though. That upright running style finally caught up to him.
 
Gotta throw Charlie Davis into the mix, in '71 he was da' Man on that #3 ranked team!

Bobby Anderson was TB for only part of his senior season, but the Indiana (160+yds)and Alabama (260+yds. vs. the Bear's "D") games that year make him a sentimental favorite.
 
As far as the top backs go I would have to list the following. No numbers are given for ranking. It's too hard to list one over the other. They all have specific attributes that make them among the top.

Eric Bieniemy*
Charlie Davis**
Rashaan Salaam*
Byron White
Bobby Anderson*
Chris Brown*

* saw them play
** teammate

Then I have to list John "The Beast" Bayuk as my favorite Colorado back. I never saw him play, but he got tough yards as a fullback. He bit some sumbitch in a pileup. :thumbsup: :lol: His 5.3 yards per carry doesn't hurt either.

davis was awesome. i'd probably put him 6th (after brown at 5 and after the top 4 of white, eb, salaam, and anderson).

our Buffs really have had some great backs over the years.

And we're primed to have some more with the stable we have now. Talent is in place, O-line is the key!:thumbsup:
 
it would be interesting to get to a top 10. then you have a place for the Bobby Purify's, Lamont Warren's, and Cortlen Johnson's of the world. all great college backs. heck, Warren had to turn pro to get carries with Rashan at I-back. LW was in the NFL for 8 years.
 
We have had three different backs go over 300 yards in a game.

Davis 342 vs. Okie st, Salaam 317 vs Texas, and Brown 309 vs Kansas.

If Cortlen Johnson could have stayed healthy, I think he would have been the best out of that group of him, Brown, and Purify.
 
Ahhhh! Another fine tribute to the genius that was Shawn Watson: he couldn't find a way to get LV on the field! And don't forget the way he ignored Klopf's abilities as a pass-catcher when the Buffs were short of WR's, when Sypnewski was availabe as a TE! And don't even get me started about J Bloom used as primarly a "decoy"......Watson....ARRRRRRRGH!!!!

no kidding. you'd think a guy with 23 NFL starts over the last two seasons could have found a way to contribute if given the chance. clearly, someone thinks LV can ball.
