Re: '10 TX S Zack Craig

Smithson Valley Defensive Back leaning towards Colorado (added 7/7)
Just a few days ago, Utsatailgaters released our newly created prospect info page, which specifically focuses on those recruits that do have a formal offer from UTSA. One of the those recruits is Smithson Valley DB Zack Craig who utsatailgaters did a story on back in Mid-June. Since then, Craig recently had a follow up with rivals.com and shed some light on his recruiting situation. When we released our prospect info, we did list Craig's chances as being "Average" in committing to UTSA, but listed his ties to being from Colorado as a factor that could work against UTSA being that CU & CSU have both offerred Craig. Although Craig is maintaining that he will visit UTSA in the near future, it's clear that CU & CSU are on top for this recruit and UTSA might be on the outside looking in.
Craig lists his hometown roots of Gunnison, CO, CU being a Big XII school, and a myriad of reasons on why Craig might be headed back to Colorado. UTSA still appears to have a sliver of hope, but Craig is weighing his visit to the campuses as a big reason on why he'll choose the school that he does. Never count out a former BCS National Championship Coach, but UTSA might might be on the outside looking in on this one.

Re: '10 TX S Zack Craig

Why is this guy so anonymous? With his physical tools, he could be a great S or CB.

Re: '10 TX S Zack Craig

Could be that he has the tools but hasn't put them to use on the field.

More likely he just hasn't been noticed. There are literaly thousands of high schools in the US and each school has a whole bunch of players. If a kid plays at a school that doesn't get a lot of attention or doesn't win a lot it is easy to overlook the school. If the school's coaching staff doesn't work to get the kids in front of the college coaches he can be overlooked.

A bunch of other things can happen as well, if the kid is a late bloomer or is overshadowed by other guys on his team or other players in his region at the same position. Sometimes HS kids end up playing in systems that do not fit their indivdual talents or are playing out of position because of team needs.

If recruit evaluation was a complete and exact science the NFL would be almost exclusively made up of players from the top 20-40 programs in the country and the first round of the draft would be all U$C, OU, Texas, and Florida. A look at the number of NFL quality players who come from smaller schools gives an idea of how many top players get overlooked by the system.

Re: '10 TX S Zack Craig

This is a guy you take a "wait and see" approach on IMO.

Doesn't look like your typical Big XII CB does he? No racist:smile2:

well he is a safety, and you do see white safeties. You're right though - people bring up the fact that there are hardly any white RBs...what about white CBs? In fact, I can only think of McCloughan (sp?) from the championship team.

We're recruiting him as a CB. There's not a single white starting CB in the NFL... and I can't think of one in college. (no racist). This guy looks like he has the size and speed tho

Re: '10 TX S Zack Craig

He is already pretty large for a corner, but if he has the athletic ability, bring him in. I don't know anything about his frame but if he has room to grow, might be a good LB or TE? 4.4 40!

Re: '10 TX S Zack Craig

I'm not too worried about the melanin content of his skin. If it helps some of you, remember Jason Sehorn?

Anyway, it sounds like we're recruiting Zack very hard (almost daily contact) and it looks like he'll be ours if Okie Lite doesn't offer. CSU is the other program in the mix. He'd like to commit in the next few weeks.

Re: '10 TX S Zack Craig (Committed to Colorado)

hes a buff! (thank you adam from rivals) welcome to the black and gold!

:dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

I'm very happy about this commit. Craig is the best player on defense for one of the top Texas 5A programs, has great size, and can really run. A couple years with Coach Brown and he could really be a superstar.

Re: '10 TX S Zack Craig (Committed to Colorado)

Welcome to the BnG Zack. I'm interested to see how he pans out. I do trust Brown on this one

Re: '10 TX S Zack Craig (Committed to Colorado)

Love how we are starting to pull some recruits from Texas! Welcome Zack!

Re: '10 TX S Zack Craig (Committed to Colorado)

How does a kid with that kind of speed not get recruited by everybody? I wonder if his speed is exaggerated somewhat.

He was waiting on an offer from Okie Lite, but they already had a bunch of DB recruits, when that offer didn't come he turned to the Buffs.

He looks pretty good in his vids and if he's good enough for Greg Brown, he's good enough for me.

Re: '10 TX S Zack Craig (Committed to Colorado)

I like this recruit for a lot of reasons:

1) Denver Johnson "found" him...I love that he's already pulling talent from Texas
2) Craig's other fav school was CSU - we haven't even played the Rocky Mountain Showdown yet, and we've already beaten CSU at something hahah
3) This keeps him from Okie Light - could be significant a few years down the road...

I've read that his 40 times are between 4.4 and 4.5 - pretty impressive for a kid who's 6'2". Most schools wanted him to be a safety - but we wanted him to stay at CB. Go Buffs!

Re: '10 TX S Zack Craig (Committed to Colorado)

It's nice to see some early commits. Welcome aboard Zack. Go Buffs.
