For those of you who may not have been following things on a minute-by-minute basis (actually have lives) and don't want to sift through pages of reactionary rants, I thought I'd put this up.

No opinions or conjecture (at least I can guarantee this in the opening post), just a summary of what's gong on.

As of 6:30 pm, here is what is actually known or being reported elsewhere from supposedly reputable but unnamed sources:

1) Simmons has not practiced with the team yet and CU is not able to pay for any food, housing, clothing, etc. yet as per NCAA rules.

2) Yesterday, a reputable poster at Rivals said we should know something today and he seemed to think the outcome would be positive.

3) Today, Ringo posted at Scout that an official release on Simmons is expected some time today. And that it "appears" Simmons could miss all or part of fall camp and be unavailable for CSU due to some extra classwork to get done.

4) This evening, another reputable poster at Rivals said that some idiot CU "fans" have been calling Independence CC and harassing them. It's not helping, obviously, and is making it more difficult for CU and Simmons to get them to do us a favor by expediting things.

5) Also this evening, AZ had some SCOOP that the rumors that Simmons is "ineligible" are false. Apparently, something weird is going on that his source wasn't at liberty to divulge. But nothing is absolutely known yet regarding his playing status either.

**** dude. I was having some fun with syko. Way to ****ing ruin it.

Any truth to rward's stuff that if he isn't admitted by August 24th, that his LOI is null and void? This would make him eligible to go to a different school for this season if true.

I think that if he does not enroll at CU, then he would be eligible to sign another letter of intent to play with another school next February.

Well OK. This sounds a little better and more positive. I hope it's all just rumors. $hitty, fuked-up rumors, and that will be good soon.

No one should do that.

Absolutely correct. If he's not admitted by the school for which he signed a LOI by the start of the school year, he's a free agent again. It's exactly the same as with the high school kids who didn't make it (Nuckols, Simon, maybe Moten) who have decided to greyshirt. They could have opted instead to go to a JUCO starting this fall semester or to a different 4-year university come January. We don't get them into school, their LOI is voided.

I don't think that is correct.

Otherwise, if a kid decided in May he wanted to go to a different school- he just wouldn't enroll at the school he signed his LOI with - and then he could go to whatever school he wanted.

He may be able to go enroll wherever he wants to, but once he signs a letter of intent, he is bound by the LOI until the following signing period.

Either I typed it wrong or you read it wrong.

The scenario is that the kid is unable to enroll because the school he signed the LOI with won't admit him. In that case, he becomes a free agent because the school violated its obligations under the LOI. The looming date for him to get admitted to CU is August 24.

sorry to differ nik, but the only substantiated facts there are indicated above...

Well this should get interesting..

...ahem...

Oh hell, we're just splitting hairs now.

It's fact that the listed stuff has been posted and that people who usually have good info have heard this information from their sources. They could absolutely be wrong and some of it is contradictory, so someone is wrong. Whether the information proves to be correct doesn't impact the factuality of it having been reported.

Anyway, the intent wasn't just to say what's been officially released and verified (that was probably unclear). The intent was to say what all the hubbub was about based on what we know and what people "in the know" are reporting.

rumormonger.

:smile2:

Just a reminder - be careful about posting any 'premium' info.

Thanks

I hope I didn't cross the line with the premium info.

We do have an official release from CU now:

Simmons Still on Hold

- admitted to CU, waiting on NCAA
- verification by or shortly after Aug 24 or he could redshirt
- CU has the transcript from ICC
- CU "fans" have been bugging ICC
- etc., etc.

Basically, we're waiting on something to to with the NCAA and something unusual is going on that they can't/won't talk about.

This is good news. At least he won't jump ship. Sounds like something to do with verifying classes and whether he has enough credits to be on track.

This is from Sat Denver Post-

BOULDER — Friday brought no news in the case of junior-college transfer wide receiver Andre Simmons, who continues to wait for transcripts to be sent to the University of Colorado in order to be cleared to play.
The situation has frustrated some fans to the point where they have actually called Independence (Kan.) Community College to try to speed up the process, something the CU administration is trying to curb.
Simmons could turn out to be an important member of the offense, because the Buffs are largely inexperienced at the wide receiver position and could use a player who has been through some sort of college football. He had 31 catches for 318 yards and a touchdown for Independence last season and was a first-team All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference selection.
Simmons is expected to be cleared to practice as soon as the paperwork arrives and is verified against information the school has been told. That could happen as soon as today.
