Re: '10 HI QB Andrew Manley

Manley being patient
Quarterback Andrew Manley (Wahiawa, Hawaii./Leilehua) entered the spring/summer evaluation period with an offer from Hawaii under his belt. With the start of the season a little over a month away, Manley is still sitting on the lone offer, but is drawing interest from several schools.

Manley is the top quarterback in Hawaii this year and put up huge numbers a year ago. He threw for 3,676 yards and 31 touchdowns to earn third team all-state honors and had strong showings at the Nike Camp at Stanford as well as the USC skills camp over the summer.

"Right now, all the schools talking to me want to see my first couple of games next season before deciding to offer or not," Manley said. "Washington State, Washington, Ole Miss, Colorado and Idaho are the main schools talking to me right now.

"Washington and Colorado already have commitments from a quarterback, but they said they're looking in to taking two guys. Right now, I'm just looking for the right fit. I want to take my trips but if the right school offers me, I'll jump on it."

Re: '10 HI QB Andrew Manley

I'd be surprised if we took another scholarship QB unless we flipped Hinder or Colter. Hirschman is there, Spond will get a chance, and you can be sure that we'll have a walk on or 2 (i.e., Jake Johnson, Longmont ).

The staff is definitely taking their time with this one. But I still think the staff will convince Spond that he's better suited for MLB. Things should work themselves out this season. If Spond doesn't impress throwing the ball, I think CU will try to bring in another QB.

I also don't see Colter as a QB. What's your thoughts on Cain?

My thought on Kain is that he's like Josh Moten. Could be a helluva safety and alternately could work the slot as a WR. But you give him a freshman camp to try to prove himself at QB in order to keep him happy and because if he does surprise you by looking like the real deal at QB you end up with a superlative athlete behind center.

As far as our chances on him, I think that he's a much more solid verbal to Stanford than Bonnell is.

Re: '10 HI QB Andrew Manley

Colter definitely isn't a QB in my opinion. I like him a lot though, and hope he drops Stanford eventually. It seems though that he's comfortable with not being a QB at the next level, and Spond REALLY wants the opportunity. If Hawk promised him a shot at QB, then I think he needs to be given that shot - just a chance, and then move him if things don't work out. I think it's ****ty if you promise a guy a shot, and then just immediately move him. Moten is in a similar position - he deserves to be given a shot based solely on that's what the coaching staff said they'd give. I don't thin any of these three wind up at QB, but give them their chance if they want it.

I'm still afraid that Spond will renege on his commitment and go to a school that is committed to him as a QB, not just giving him a look there.

Re: '10 HI QB Andrew Manley

I found Manley's tape more impressive than Hirschman's. I thought he had a great presence in the pocket. Good delivery. Could hold the ball a little higher. Tends to throw off his back foot.

I would like to see us offer. Potentially, we don't have a QB in the 2009 class.

Don't underestimate Hirschman. He's a good one.
"I studied film on him earlier this year, and he had a long delivery," Every said. "He looked big, chunky and slow of foot. But it looks like he's lost about 20 pounds since last season. His release is completely different. It's much shorter. It's definitely a pro-style release. He threw an accurate ball all camp long."

"There were a lot of other household named quarterbacks here, but Nick Hirschman definitely surprised me. I think he's a guy everybody will have to keep an eye on because of his new and improved ability."

"To be honest, if I was a college coach, I wouldn't even look at the junior film. It's not the same person."- Barry Every

Re: '10 HI QB Andrew Manley

Not underestimating anyone.....and I'm certainly not good enough to compare players.

I like this guy's throws. When the pattern/play required him to zing one, he did it. Whe it required touch, he did it. Seems to throw a very catchable ball. Also, seems to be able to escape the rush.

It the UH warriors let this guy off the islands they're fools.

It looks to me like he's trying to get off the islands any way he can. I doubt he ends up at UH unless that's his only offer.

I don't have any inside info. JMO.

Yeah, and after I made my post I remembered that they have a different coach - the one that a jerk of himself with the comments about Sorta Lame Blighting irish pre-game motivational chant.

We have one standard QB and one QB/LB/TE/FB (whatever category ya want Spond in) already committed. Makes me think Manley won't come to Boulder. Could be wrong, tho.

Articles about Andrew Manley at the Super Seven QB Retreat

By gokamoto

About participating in the Super Seven QB Retreat, Andrew Manley said:

“I’m just amazed at everything. It’s unbelievable. I’m just trying to take everything in and make myself a better quarterback.” (HA)

Asked what he’s doing at the camp with the elite QB recruits from the mainland, Manley said:

“I just want to prove to myself and others that I can hang with these guys. So far, I feel as if I’m right there with all of them.” (HSB)

HA Note: “Manley, who directed Leilehua to a state title as a sophomore and reached the finals last season. Manley was named 2008 co-offensive player of the year by The Honolulu Advertiser after passing for 3,642 yards and 31 touchdowns, and rushing for four more.”

About how he was surprised to receive an invitation to the Super 7 camp, Manley said:

“I wasn’t expecting it. They just told me they wanted the elite seven, and because I’m a decent quarterback from Hawai’i, they asked me to come, too, to be the local boy.” (HA)

About how Norm Chow was the first to recommend Manley to him, QB guru Steve Clarkson said:

“He really, really liked Andrew and thought I should consider him for this event. Then I had a chance to evaluate him on film and talk to other coaches across the country who’ve seen this guy, and they all were in amazement that he had this much talent and that he was under the radar because of his location. Sometimes you want to able to look like a genius, and I feel like Andrew is going to make me look like a genius because I’m the first to say, ‘Yeah, this kid’s got it.’ ” (HA)

Re: '10 HI QB Andrew Manley

No. 9 Leilehua 47, No. 7 Waianae 28
Andrew Manley's huge game put the Mules back in the hunt for an OIA Red West title.
Manley completed 19 of 32 passes for 344 yards and three touchdowns as the Mules handed the Seariders their first league loss.
CJ Bailey hauled in an 89-yard touchdown catch and had 139 total yards of offense for Leilehua, which moved into a tie with Waianae. Both trail league-leading Mililani.
Puletua Wilson finished 13-for-27 for 216 yards and three touchdowns, but the Seariders had three turnovers that Leilehua turned into 10 points.

Re: '10 HI QB Andrew Manley (Committed to New Mexico State)

Congrats to Manley for getting a mainland offer. He committed to NMSU.

He'd been pretty high on CU throughout the process and, I believe, was a bit of a backup plan for us. I took a look at his film (tough to evaluate QBs, imo) and I've been of the opinion that Manley's been under-recruited this cycle. So good for him and good luck.

Re: '10 HI QB Andrew Manley (Committed to New Mexico State)

WOOT! As an NMSU Alum it's good to hear a quality QB is committed to them. Turns out they had 3 commits today. 2 QBs and 1 MLB from St Bonaventure.

DeWayne Walker is going to help turn that program around.
