QBs (all ratings by team)

1. Oklahoma: Sam Bradford*
2. Texas: Colt McCoy*
3. Kansas: Todd Reesing*
4. Oklahoma State: Zac Robinson*
5. Baylor: Robert Griffin*
6. Iowa State: Austen Arnaud*
7. Colorado: Cody Hawkins*
8. Texas A&M: Jerrod Johnson*
9. Texas Tech: Taylor Potts
10. Nebraska: Zac Lee
11. Missouri: Blaine Gabbert
12. Kansas State: Carson Coffman
* returning starter

Position battles continue at a few schools. Grant Gregory, the South Florida transfer, is pushing Coffman at Kansas State. At Colorado, Hawkins got most of the snaps in a recent scrimmage but Tyler Hansen had a good day. At Nebraska, a season-ending injury to Kody Spano heats up competition for the top reserve.

Offensive line
1. Oklahoma State: Russell Okung
2. Texas: Adam Ulatoski
3. Missouri: Kurtis Gregory
4. Nebraska: Jacob Hickman
5. Colorado: Ryan Miller
6. Texas Tech: Brandon Carter
7. Oklahoma: Trent Williams
8. Iowa State: Reggie Stephens
9. Kansas State: Nick Stringer
10. Kansas: Jeremiah Hatch
11. Baylor: J.D. Walton
12. Texas A&M: Evan Eike

Baylor coach Art Briles calls Walton the best center in the Big 12. A&M welcomes LSU transfer Matt Allen. Only Texas and Oklahoma have had more all-conference OLs since 2003 than Missouri. Colorado basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik must be envious. The Buffs will start 6-9 Nate Solder at left tackle and 6-8 Miller at right guard.

While I am not surprised to see CU dead last on the wide receiver position, I was surprised to see us dead last on the defensive line.

I don't pretend to know as much as the rest of the allbuffers on the D-line, but was that a fair assessment?

We're a real unknown on the DL. I cannot say I'm surprised to see us 12th. I think we're better than that, but it has to be proven on the field. If we can get even halfway decent line play there, we're going to have one of the better defenses in the conference.

The one I was surprised about was our ranking at DB. C. Brown is good but Jimmy Smith is our best DB and is better than some of the players on that list.

I thought for the most part that was a pretty fair list. ONe of the better and less biased ones I have seen.

Am I understanding this list right .... that the team list is a ranking of the overall strength of that school's team in that category and that the name following it is who he considers to be the best player in that category?

That's the way I understood it.

That's arguable. Cha'ppelle Brown is probably the most complete corner we've got.

I like Smith. He has size and speed, but Brown has put it all together. He has the best awareness of any CB and is clutch. His size is his biggest drawback, but nonetheless he has shown that he can manage on the field. Smith has the most potential though and I hope this year he breaks out because we are going to need a solid CB next year. It wouldn't surprise me if Smith is our best CB by the end of the year.

You gotta like argueing about who our best corner is. Man I can't wait for this season to start.

Yep, it's nice to have 4 solid corners. All bring something to the table and all of them are also very good tacklers and contribute very well to stopping the run.

Didn't find too much disagreeable about these rankings. I think they may have been a bit generous to Oklahoma, but no surprises for much of these either. I both like and don't like that our corners are getting respect. Shhhhhhhh! Don't give too much away, writers.

Oh, and I'd like to personally welcome Joe Pawelek to his eighth season of college football.

Yeah. That ranking would have made more sense on special teams.

Yeah, and Jimmy Smith may have all the potential in the world but Chapelle has done it for 3 years on the field. Until Jimmy proves it on the field with reliable play game in and game out, Chappelle and Burney are our best DBs.

You sure its only his eight? He and Bluto Blutarsky started college together didn't they?:wow: I thought it was his tenth! Sorta like Sypnewski or Kory Sperry.

Actually the Buffs didn't deserve the No. 12 in "WRs" since they lumped in TEs with them. Our TEs are pretty darned decent. Geer, Devanney and that soph from Cali (gawd, I hate brain farts!) shoulda moved us up a couple of notches.

I just found this archived pic of Ryan Miller as an incoming freshman.

It's funny to see him so young and tiny! Bless his heart, he was probably only six foot six and 290 pounds back then.

And yet, he may be only the second-best OL, with Solder having more long-range potential. Its great they were able to move Miller to guard.

Pretty much have an All-Colorado line with Geer at TE. Gotta love it!
